    Creator's RP Name:

             Alor’avern Alusa

Briefly explain the lore behind this construct or creature:

A sorvian is a humanoid creature whose purpose it is to serve their creator/sculptor, however, over time sorvians may start to develop their own sense of self. They will hold a deep respect for their creator however, and as such follow any order from them, even if it goes against their own ideologies.

A sorvian must possess a wooden skeleton, covered in clay, that looks distinctly humanoid, and a porcelain mask with eye and mouth holes, upon which the ‘Awakening’ incantation will be written in the sculptor's blood and activated. This mask is where the creator will pour in their life energy, and thus also the one thing that keeps a sorvian alive. Should the mask be destroyed, the sorvian will perish. However, so long as the original mask can be repaired, or a replica made, any sculptor will be able to revive the fallen sorvian.

Sorvians are rather easy to break/kill/injure, since they are made from mood and clay, however, they may be repaired by a sculptor in such instances, such repairs will leave scars and leave the area to be permanently weaker. Their light build allows for better dexterity. Sorvians to not breathe or eat, making it impossible for them to play an instrument that relies on air, such as a flute, however they can mimic sleeping to a certain extent.

If this construct or creature has some form of aesthetic choice, can you describe how they look?

A sorvians mask cannot be changed, remaining in the expression that the mask was created in. Often times sorvians will wrap themselves in cloaks to hide their discoloured skin, as descendants may find it uncanny to look at.

As for Leyu, they tend to go dressed in darker robes. Their black and white mask is permanently set in a neutral expression and their somewhat long hair is an odd mixture of brown and blond. They don't really show any physical traits of being either male or female. They're rather short, standing at 5'0 ft., made to look cute rather than scary.

What magic(s) will you be teaching?

             Alchemy

Describe this magic or a creature as a whole:

Alchemy is the study of the world in its most basic components, and can be subdivided into 3 different sections.

    -Signs and Symbols

    -Processes and Reagents

    -Core potions

    Signs and Symbols:

Signs are the primary basis of all components that exist in the world, subdivided into the elements; Earth, Water, Air, Fire and Aether.

Secondary to signs are the symbols. There exist far more symbols in the world than there are signs. Where components can only possess a maximum of two signs, it can hold a multitude of symbols that will tell something about the properties of said component. Take Frostfine, a plant that holds the Freezing component, and is thus very cold to the touch. Important to note is that every symbol has an antagonist. To take the previous example of the Freezing symbol, its antagonist would be the Burning symbol. Every symbol can be extracted from the right components and then further used within alchemy to create the desired effect.

    Processes and Reagents:

To gain the proper reagent from each sign and/or symbol, they must first be properly extracted from the components. The extractions for Earth, Water, Air, Fire and Aether/Mundane are all done differently and the correct extraction method must be used to gain the proper reagents. To give an example, one cannot gain an Air extraction from a component with an Earth sign. The only exception here being Mundane, which can be gathered from all signs.

    The different extraction methods are:

    • Mundane/Aether:

The component must be shredded and/or ground down with a mortar and pestle (Aurum tools are required for Aether signs), then mixed with Aqua vitae. They should then be filtered and boiled into a powder, from which the symbols can be separated.

    • Fire Method:

The component must be dried/dehydrated, then cut and/or shredded into a powder reminiscent of saw dust, after which it must be set on fire until reduced to ash. The symbols can then be separated from said ash.

    • Earth Method:

The component must be ground down or cut into small pieces, before being ground down with a mortar and pestle with salt in a 1:1 ratio. Once a fine powder remains, the salt can be sifted out and the symbols can be separated from the remaining powder.

    • Water Method

The component should be soaked with distilled water, then crushed/shredded into a mush. The mush should be poured over a dish and be left to evaporate over a narrative day, leaving a dry powder from which the symbols can be separated.

    • Air Method:

The component must be dried/dehydrated, then cut and/or shredded into a powder reminiscent of saw dust. Unlike with fire extraction however, this powder shall be placed within a container to be compressed, decompressed, and blown through bellows, leaving a thin powder behind from which the symbols may be collected.

    Core potions:

The third, and final step is the combining of the collected signs and symbols into potions. How this is done depends entirely on the concoction one is trying to make, but the base process is called mixing, in which the various reagents are added to a base according to a potion specific set of directions and steps. The end product will either require player signature, or st signature, depending on the potion in question, and a clear description of how the potion looks like and what its effects are. All used herbs are destroyed upon potion creation, regardless of the result.

Important to note is that potions in combat hold on mostly the same rules, unless specified otherwise. One emote to grab the potion, one emote to prime it, and one final emote to throw or otherwise use it, describing its effects.

Potions will remain ‘primed’ for two emotes before needing to be primed again, unless otherwise specified, and one cannot use any potions while actively using magic, as alchemy and magics clash with one another. One must wait two emotes after disconnecting from a magic or stopping an enchantment to be able to use potions once again.

Are there different sections or subsections of magic? Can those be elaborated upon?

Alchemy can be broken down into a few subsections, these being common knowledge, rare knowledge and further alchemy.

    • Common knowledge, as the name implies, are recipes that are mostly common knowledge and are thus easy for anyone to learn, either through being taught, self study or experimentation.

    • Rare knowledge are the recipes that must be specifically taught to your character irp by someone who already holds this knowledge, and thus cannot be discovered by someone alone.

    • Further alchemy requires the player to be a T3 alchemist and to submit and get an additional FA approved. An additional TA is also required to teach these branches of alchemy.

Can you give an example of a casting emote, of a spell of your choice?

    Blasting potion:

[Pointy Hat] Yralissa sets the ingredients she'll be using down. 2 M. Strength, 2 M. Rage, 1 M. Instability & 2 F. Burning. She would then heat up the cauldron to a sufficient temperature and pour in the drakestail oil, heating it, then adding in the Strength and mixing it in until the symbols had properly dissolved.

[Pointy Hat] Yralissa would reach for the Rage and the Burning next, adding in the former first and stirring them both in until properly dissolved. She'd then eye the Instability, a chaotic glint in her eyes as she grabbed it, firmly planting her hat on her head with one hand and pulling out the cork with her teeth. She proceeds to dump in the whole batch, then runs for cover behind a wooden beam, grinning all the while.

Upon rolling higher than 5 on the d20:

[Pointy Hat] Yralissa would sigh in disappointment as the brew sat still, not exploding but merely settling properly, but went to bottle the potion up regardless and left it to rest on one of the shelves in the lab for later use.

Upon rolling a 5 or below on the d20:

[Pointy Hat] Yralissa cackles as the potion goes BOOM, her pointy hat blowing off her head at the force of the explosion. She continues her near maniacal laughter until she’s found, still on her ass, with the lab looking as if a tornado had blown though it.

Can you give an example of a teaching-emote (interacting with another) of a spell of your choice?

The door of the lab creaks as it opens, the blue and blond haired human curiously joining her mother as the latter sets an array of ingredients down for them to use.

Ah, Able, just in time. She gestures to the prepared ingredients. As I’ve shown ya ‘ow te separate tha symbols tha other Elven day, I’ve gone ahead ‘n done tha fer ye, so we can get straight inte brewin. Yra’lissa hums cheerfully, making a bright smile appear on the girls face.

Alrighty then, where do we start? Yra gestured for the girl to join her by the worktable, where an array of ingredients had been set out. A bottle of distilled water, 1 M. Light, 1 M. Endurance and 1 M. Swiftness, already separated into separate vials for ease of use.

‘ave fun child. The ‘ame mused, standing by to watch the girl work out what to do with the ingredients given.

Do I just…mix them up? The girl eyed her mother incredulously. The woman did not budge, merely gesturing for the girl to try what she thought was right.

Able sighed, knowing this was about as much direction as she’d get from the chaotic elfess, and that Yra’lissa would intervene if she saw something dangerous happening. And thus set to work on grabbing a bowl and pouring in the ingredients one by one, starting with the water and mixing in the symbols.

Yra’lissa watched on as her daughter worked, humming approvingly every once in a while, until the girl finished and turned back to the elfess.

Am I done? It doesn’t look any different, just like normal water. How do I know if I did it right? Yra gave a smile and went to grab a container and a cork for the girl. Only way te know es te test et. Ye’ll wanna shake et. She muses.

The girl nods and carefully transfers the liquid from her bowl into the container and puts a cork on it. Yra’lissa offers a reassuring nod to the questioning glance thrown her way, and then the girl shakes the liquid, causing it to glow in a soft yellow light. She gasps in amazement.

Nicely done. Yra hums approvingly, a proud glint in her eyes. Next time we’ll add some color to it aye, tha way ye can get some more practise in.

Say your student powergames during or after teaching, how do you reprimand that?

If the powergaming was done unknowingly I would point out to my student where they’d gone wrong, why it is considered powergaming, and how to avoid it going forward.

If the powergaming was done intentionally, I would sternly reprimand the student on their powergaming, explain why it is wrong and how to avoid doing so. If a student continues to knowingly powergame I will inform ST and drop them as my student. I do not take kindly to such things, as it takes the joy out of good rp.
