Briefly explain the lore behind this construct or creature:

A phantom is the result of a deceased individual whos soul, for varying reasons, stays behind rather than moving on. A new Phantom is often referred to as a Revenant, which is a Phantom that has yet to truly realize what had happened to it. It generally attempts to try and continue acting how it was when it was alive, though eventually the self-imposed veil will be shattered. Upon a Revenant realizing they have actually died, they often fall into an unstable mental state, and later end up going down one of two paths. A Poltergeist is a form of Phantom that becomes enraged with the idea that it has died, and its appearance matches as such. They are much more hostile and mentally unstable, being unable to have positive emotions and contain malice within themselves. Specters are the opposite path, in which the Phantom accepts the fact they have died, and become much more peaceful. While still having their own quirks, they are much more friendly than the other two variants, and act the most like how they did when they were still alive. 

Phantoms are made up of ectoplasm, which is a supernatural combination of Life Force and Mana. This allows for minor appearance changes into gas or goo, or even a cold flame if they wanted. Due to its supernatural state, it is intangible, meaning that the Phantom may freely move through people and most objects, and most tools easily pass through them without affecting them. However, due to its general nature, Aurum is the primary weakness for Phantoms, being able to actually strike one. The pain generated from such a strike varies depending on the Phantom type, but it is very painful regardless. Voidal Mages are also able to fend off Phantoms, as their magics are able to also harm Phantoms. Sunlight, while not being as effective for directly striking down the Phantom, is also a good deterrent. While none of the Phantom types can be killed off by the sun, most are greatly hurt by it, and the Specter finds it uncomfortable.

If this construct or creature has some form of aesthetic choice, can you describe how they look? 

Felden Creech's appearance would show him appearing to still wear his service uniform, though its color would be greyscaled due to his new appearance as a Phantom. A stab wound would be visible in his armor, showing how he perished. This would change though, if he later evolves into either a Specter or Poltergeist.
