For anyone who truly cares about this issue, I’d highly recommend taking a look at a thread from years ago, as from a brief visit to the server has revealed Aegis appears to live in legend in most peoples minds. 

Restricting freebuild to certain areas destroys the freedom that made Aegis great, which is what gave Lord of the Craft it’s charm and built such a strong community foundation. I understand there have been some issues with this map and people freebuilding crap-builds from what people have said; So implement some very basic community standards for build quality, and add a forum section to report crap-builds. Take a screenshot of the build itself, a screenshot of the F3 grid location, and report it in a post, so Admins can easily find these things. Remove inactive builds, or warn the owners of current builds that they need to improve their design to be compliant with community standards (That would need to be established) in what ever way they aren’t compliant.

If you limit freebuild to a ring on the outside of the map and only charters to the interior of the map, you create a recipe for ghost towns as players will no-doubt freebuild in the ring, realize how god-awfully far they are from everyone and everything, have limited RP exposure, and end up leaving. Back in Aegis, that was the beauty of the entire world; There were active and occupied builds everywhere, in close conjunction to eachother, so no one ever felt left out of the RP or too far away to be interacted with. Cities were occupied, towns and fortresses were built, it was an absolute madhouse of fun; The server was maxing 300/300 people for hours at a time every day because people enjoyed it so much.

I come back from 5 and a half years of self-imposed exile to find LOTC reduced to what it currently is; And why? From talking with some of the folks who have stayed with the server for the past few years, the answer is obvious; A lack of freebuild and building quality enforcement, leading to players being widely spread out or discouraged and abandoning the server.

Allow freebuild everywhere outside of protected zones, like back in the day where the limit was... What was it, 200 blocks away from major cities like Oren? But otherwise open. Allow players to apply for land protection for a fee that admins can create; I remember the Cal’ek Warband being the first non-start group/faction to receive land protection, and it cost us 10,000 currency IIRC. 5 of us grinded for 8 days straight to earn that much cash; Selling flint in a non-inflated market for arrows, grinding literally thousands of mobs because we’d lose 10% of our cash every time we died, etc etc. It gave us a goal to achieve that wasn’t easy and took dedication and hard work; And the amount of roleplay it spawned through trade deals, diplomacy, alliances, a coupe attempt, and so and so on has gone on to be legendary.

On that note; I was on the server for maybe an hour today discussing this with other players, and at least 7 other players all said the same thing; Voting rewards have destroyed Minas’ value as a currency.

It sounds like the economy and some of the communities systems as a whole need a massive revamping with the new map. And my god, as an Aegis Veteran, I’ll still ring out the same tune I have been for years that has been ignored since Aegis which was this servers glory days; Freebuild is the path to magnificence for this server, with basic quality enforcement so there’s no cobblestone cube houses or dirt pillar walls or anything like that. Make currency harder to obtain again. Make protection have to be earned for factions again.

Also; Pure charter discourages players as it takes time to even be able to build or interact with the community around you; It stops new players dead in their tracks, as it overwhelms them amongst EVERYTHING ELSE they already have to learn when they join the server. Integration in to a community needs to be as easy as possible to retain players, and freebuild is paramount to this endeavor.

Ah so they have the permissions to accept invites or is it still just you?

I've pretty much quit minecraft as I've given up on the search for a good server, and the horrible skill system has pretty much raped this server for me. That, and I simply don't have the time to roleplay anymore. Any few hours after work I do get are spent blowing stuff up on LoL, Eve Online, or Fallen Earth. At this point, I'm discussing with the others on the private Cal'ek forum's about who wants to lead the Warband and take over as I'm on permanent "temporary leave" until, god willing, the skill system is fixed or removed, and we've worked too hard for the Warband to simply up and disperse.

Most of us are quitting/have quit/are gone/simply don't get on, mainly because;

A. The skill system has effectively raped the server in most of our eyes.

B. We're all busy with real life. School, work, partners, friends, etc etc.

C. There's not much organized "crime" for us to fight. Our only real targets would be the typical undead and the less then capable black hand.

So, for those 3 reasons, and a few more personal ones to each of us, the spot of Warband Chieftan is pretty much up for grabs to any current member of the Warband who wants it and can find the time to lead the Warband. I just posted that about 10 minutes ago, so it might be another day or two before I hear back from anyone.

In the mean time, hang tight. We'll figure something out to get new, fresh, invigorated leadership into the Warband. We've worked too hard to simply let it disperse once more. Also, I'll still be around to "lead" the Warband, mainly to offer advice and guidance to whoever the new leadership may be, and to manage the forums and edit this main post as myself and the leadership see fit, etc etc. Things like that.

This is true. I'm not able to get on much for the remainder of this week as I am still on night shift. However, next week I return to day shift, so I'll be able to find time to hop on the server a bit every day. Aye, and the warden's would have the Cal'ek's support. The old rangers were highly corrupt, and lacked discipline, more likely to kill the average Aegian than to save him. I hope such is not the case when they are re-organized. I remember many a report of their doings and being powerless to stop them as the Warband was not in a position to defeat anything beyond the simplest of bandits at the time.

We don't have a reason to pursue the dark brotherhood yet. They are not hurting the average citizen of Aegis, and they have not killed any innocent's to the best of our knowledge. Should that every change though, our reaction shall be swift and forceful.

The Warband will also be offering services to new players as well. Until the skill system is fixed, its virtually impossible for players to progress since they will require tools to gather any supplies. Until that's fixed, and possibly even after, the Warband will be offering free tools to any serfs. If they do not have the tools in the first place, they will be supplied with them, and can simply work off the cost of the tool(running off with it and not paying it off will be considered theft, and you WILL be hunted down and dealt with).

The Cal'ek Warband is now hiring serfs. Hard working lumberjacks, miner's, farmers, and gatherer's looking for work, pay, basic protection and free equipment. Due to our growing demand for supplies(More like the skill system making it impossible) for the Warband, we'll need workers to help us further ourselves. We will need pretty much any and everything that can be gathered. All kinds of wood, dirt, clay, stone, coal, iron, wheat, bread, mushrooms. Anything.

This will in no way bind anyone to the Warband. You are simply serf's working for us, how much work you do is up to you. In return for any resources we are brought, we will pay for them in the following ways.

- Mina's. This will be a fraction of what the goods are worth, but is balanced out by the other payments.

- Equipment. This will mainly be tools, but can also be weaponry, armor, food, or other supplies. We will try our best to supply serfs with more tools then they used to gather the supplies so that they will be able to gather for themselves as well.

- Protection. Having trouble with the undead, corrupt guards, bandits, or unfriendly neighbors? We'll gladly assist in solving your problem. We try to anyways as best as we can, but unfortunately the Warband is only so large, and we can't be everywhere at once, leaving us in many cases to help those we know.

- Connections. Want to get acquainted with the right people in the world of Aegis? We can help. From kings and princes, to honorable thieves and spies, to average towns folk and merchants, we know someone for just about everything.

- Reputation. Hard work will bring you favor with the Warband, something that will undoubtedly come in handy to everyone, from lowly farmers to aspiring princes pursuing a throne.

- Discounts. This one is reserved for the hardest working of serfs. It can include discounts on supplies, access to Cal'ek event's, and cheaper hiring costs.

Of course, the size of each reward scales with the amount of resources we are brought.

Want to work for the Warband, but don't have any tools? No problem! All new serfs will be supplied with tools to get them started. Simply gather supplies in return to pay off the tools, and you're good to go. Whether you wish to continue working for the Warband as a serf after you pay off the tools or not is up to you.

( OOC: This is to help the skill system along in inspiring RP, and to help out the Warband. Since everyone can no longer do everything, we will need serfs to gather supplies for us. It will help us grow, and it will help people find a way to actually make good use of their skills. It also helps greatly inspire RP for the entire Warband, and all serfs involved, and various other people around Aegis who we may connect you with.)

How long you want to be a serf for is up to you as well. There is no "time period". Simply bring us resources as you please, and we'll reward you for them. Need tools? No problem! Come and get them, and pay them off. Attempting to run off without paying for the tools however will be considered theft, and will result in you being hunted down and dealt with. Don't try to hide, the warband has eyes and allies everywhere.

It is regretable that my name has been slandered, as it is preventing me from doing much both in game and on the forums, but maybe one day it will hold the weight it once did. Change of plans. One of my men has informed me you randomly killed them with no RP, the only reason they didn't file a report is the respawn button went over the "You have been killed by" sentence.

No one lead tesawa to the base yet. I want to meet him myself first, though that might be a few days seeing as my comp's currently broken and I can only use it in safe mode.

OOC: Did the coup really happen?

OOC: Indeed it did. Everything (except the backstory of coming from the swamps and being raised by orcs, obviously) in this history actually happened in game. The coup was set and ready to go, and would have happened(successfully too. We had over half the business owners in Oren, 2/3rds of the active Oren guard at the time, several individuals of different races, and another guild, as well as myself and the 4-5 other Cal'ek at the time on our side, which would of been VS Pampo and his 3-4 Loyal guards) if I hadn't had to go for a week(real life stuff).

And yes, Pampo did turn out to be an alright king. He brought prosperity to Oren and its people, and despite having them poorly trained, he did attempt to make use of the guard to combat the undead and bandits.

He did not seem at all like this when we planned the coup though, as I had said. He seemed tyrannical and greedy.

@ Archmage, I'm sorry for your loss. It was not the Warband which took your supplies. Oren robbed us blind after the coup, despite our best efforts to help it at that time. Many of the human nobles which supported the coup, and who's very lives we had saved from bandits, turned their backs on us and sold us out, leaving us to Pampo's paranoia and unstable guard.

Yugi, only I was mentioned, with vague references about tyler and NoName.

Also, all the promotions happen at a party that we'll throw to celebrate our new found independence and freedom. We'll have to see if we can get everyone important for it on at once though.
