  1. Out-Of-Character

    Minecraft Account Name: Dman1121

How old are you?: I am 17 years young, will be turning 18 in August.

Time-Zone/Country of Residence: Pacific Northwest USA, in the rainy metropolis of Seattle. (GMT -8:00)

Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?: I like to think so, but I slip up occasionally. I’ve always been told that I’m a good writer, so there’s that.

Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself: I’m an AP art student hoping to go into game design. I love to read, draw, bike, play video games, and listen to music. I’m very imaginative, and construct creatures, cultures, and languages from scratch all the time. As well, I’m at home in the wilderness, and I love romping around in the forest.

How much time could you be on the server weekly?: If I’m lucky, 30 minutes to an hour daily. I’m bogged down with homework a lot of the time, but I can usually manage a half-hour of gaming a day, so probably about 4 hours or so a week. Weekends will most likely bring that number up, since I have more free time and the parents are more lenient about computer usage.

What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you: Roleplaying is the act of stepping into the shoes of a fictional character; becoming them, if you will. You take on their temperaments, quirks, personalities, and memories. It is to take on an entirely separate identity limited only by the roleplayer’s imagination. I’m a nice guy, so my characters are usually kind, trustworthy, and jolly.

What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?: I’ve played a few games of Dungeons and Dragons before and immersed myself in the lore, but that’s about it. I’ve played a couple RPG’s, like RuneScape, Dragon Quest IX, and Borderlands. I’ve never really gotten into actual roleplaying before, but it sounds incredibly fun once you’ve gotten in character.

In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is: Meta-Gaming is the use of outside information to influence your decisions in game. For example, if you were playing Halo and used a strategy guide, you would know that there would be Jackals with Needle Rifles over the next hill, but Master Chief wouldn’t know that in-game, since he doesn’t have the strategy guide. In another example, if your were watching a game of Magic: The Gathering and saw somebody win with a really good deck, you could adapt your deck beforehand to counter their deck without them knowing. It’s almost as if an omnipotent god is taking control of a person and using their ultimate knowledge for the benefit of the character.

In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Gaming is: Power-Gaming is taking the path of least resistance to a character’s maximum potential. It is avoiding lesser objectives that don’t contribute to the leveling-up of a character. Power-Gaming is commonly viewed as separate from roleplaying, as Power-Gamers are usually not in character and instead focused on gaining a profit.

What do you expect this server will be like?: I expect it to be everything an ideal minecraft server to be: a large group of people all working and playing together and having fun. I think that the roleplaying aspect will factor heavily into the fun aspect.

What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?: I have played on Aperture Games’ Minecraft Server and New Eden. I left Aperture after the administrators became control freaks (they threatened to ban me for not capitalizing an “i.” I technically haven’t left New Eden, but I don’t play there as much because the map was recently reset and this new one seems to be designed with more fashion in mind and not function. It was as if the mods said, “Well, this map isn’t that great for building, but it sure looks nice!”

Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?: I have indeed, fear not.

Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules: Absolutely. I want to make my experience on this server as enjoyable as possible for my fellow gamers and I.

How did you hear about us?: My friend told me about this server. He was recently accepted and I thought it would be a good idea to join him.

Have you voted for the Lord of the Craft on Minestatus? Which vote number were you?:Alas, I have not voted.

Have you posted this application on our minecraft forum thread yet? If not, just finish it up on here and then copy + paste is over there. (http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/832121-%E2%96%91%E2%96%92%E2%96%93-the-lord-of-the-craft-%E2%96%93%E2%96%92%E2%96%91-enter-the-world-of-asulon-o-f-f-i-c-i-a-l-l-y-t-h-e-n-o-1-r-p-s-e-r-v-e-r/): Yes, I have.

    In-Character:

    Character Name: Rig Dvalin-Bafur

What Race are you?: "I’m a proud Dwarf, a child o’ th’ mountains.”

What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race): “I’m one o’ th’ Cave Dwarves, stout smithies an’ forgers.”

Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.): “Ho ho, m’name is Rig Dvalin-Bafur, an’ I’m a newcomer ‘round these parts. I’m one o’ th’ Bafur clan from way up north. Proud folks, they are. They live in large cities underground, almost like forests carved from th’ rock. ‘Tis bloomin’ amazing. Anyways, I’ve been journeyin’ around th’ world seekin’ a new place to settle down an’ make a livin’. Most of me folks make their livelihoods minin’ and forgin’ for th’ humans nearby, so I decided to take up th’ trade in one o’ me father’s forges. Now here I am at Kal’Urguan, where I’ve been for just shy o’ a summer. In between forgin’ blades that would make an Orc weep, I’m practicin’ with my twin handaxes, Furst an’ Tyr. I forged ‘em meself back when I was with me clan, out of a single chunk of Mithril. I staved off a couple goblin invasions once or twice, an’ th’ folks o’ Kal’Urguan took a likin’ to me. They called me Rig Goblinbane. Cute nickname, that.

“I’m tall fer a dwarf. It’s said that th’ Bafur clan isn’t a pure bloodline and that we’ve got the blood o’ humans runnin’ in our veins. We deny it fiercely, but there’s probably some truth in that. I stand a hearty four feet tall and weigh a dainty four hundred pounds. When I’m wearin’ me trusty blue adventurin’ coat, I make fer an imposin’ sight. At 124 years old, most dwarves still have the nerve t’call me “laddie,” but lemme tell you, I don’t take kindly t’that. Me slate-grey beard is always kept in four separate braids, each with a rune-inscribed hedron bead at th’ end. Helps ward off evil, don’t ye know. I’ve got a few o’ them sacred tattoos on different places o’ me body, but they’re mostly hidden. I love forgin’, but I also love buildin’, and me cliff dwellings are always superb. Live life on th’ edge, papa Thorvald used t’say. I don’t go anywheres without me axes, Furst an’ Tyr. Many a’time they’ve saved me back from all manner o’ ghastly creatures. Keep in mind, though, they attacked me. I’m not quick t’fight, but I’ll give you a whuppin’ if’n you think o’ harmin’ me or my chums. Or me food. Don’t touch that either.”

What is your Character's ambitions?: “I hope t’build a grand cave dwellin’ fer me and me companions. A friend’s hall, if ye will. I also hope t’craft the grandest battleaxe y’ever saw.”

What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc): “I’m quite attached t’me handaxes, but I’m partial to Steinbrast, me glorious diamond pickaxe. Had a priest of Norn bless it with one o’ their magic spells.”

What is one of your Character's most skilled talents? “I’m quite the land-looker. I love to look at th’ land not for what it is, but fer what it could be. Y’know, I could look at that cliff o’er there an’ say, ‘hey, that could use a castle in th’ shape o’ a dwarf totem, don’cha think?’ I also mine like you’ve ne’er seen. I’ll rack up th’ iron an’ coal faster than you can say ‘Kal’Urguan!’”

A screenshot of your skin (must be in proper format): L7KI5.png

Other Information about your Character: “I’m a jolly fellow and I love t’joke, but I’m sensitive an’ easy t’anger. “

    Open-Response-Questions

Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond? “I’d go up an’ give those no-gooders a piece o’ my mind. I’d ask th’ Halfling if’n he’s alright, then launch an inquisition on those rotten warriors. I’d expect some trouble, since th’ bully types don’t respond well to questionin’, but I’d fight to th’ best o’ my ability to protect the Halfling an’ see to it he gets home safe. I wouldn’t worry about repeat offenses, since th’ combination o’ flashin’ axes an’ whirlin’ beard-braids is enough to scare off a Baloth.”

Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response? “Oh, I’d ask ‘im if’n he’s got any spare minerals or ores. But y’know, can’t expect much more’n a few gems or stones from a merchant. Food, on th’ other hand, is different story. If’n the minerals be lackin’, I’d ask ‘im fer a meat pie or some stout ale t’whet me thirst. I’d stick around t’eat it an’ chat with ‘im fer a few, maybe ask about local legends or ghost stories or th’ like. If’n th’ food’s good an’ th’ man’s friendly, he’ll earn a few extra gold coins fer ‘is generous services.”

Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?: “An abandoned hut ain’t never a good story. I’d examine th’ hut fer any signs of ownership. If’n there bain’t none, I’d leave a sign notin’ my visit an’ mark it on me list o’ lootin’ locations an’ come back periodically t’check fer any changes. I go by th’ three-trip rule: if’n there bain’t a response t’me sign in th’ three trips I make, then I’ll claim th’ items within, because clearly th’ previous owners want nothin’ t’do with ‘em.”

Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you you in the common tongue, how do you respond? “I’d probably greet them heartily back an’ ask if there’s any vittles on th’ fire. I’d let ‘em know that I haven’t a bloomin’ clue where I am an’ that me stomach’s been makin’ noises like a saber-cat. If’n they feed me an’ point me on th’ right path, they’ll be promised a tool o’ their choice that’ll ne’er let ‘em down. I always try an’ reward hospitality, since they’s th’ kind o’ people who’re walkin’ th’ right roads in life

You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?: “I’d most likely take ‘em down on me own. I’m not a mercenary, I’m a travelin’ smith. While I unnerstan’ th’ plight o’ the town, I’m jus’ not th’ type to take money fer killin’. When I say I’d take ‘em down, I wouldn’t kill ‘em, mind you. I’d bop ‘em on th’ head with th’ flat o’ me axe an’ drag ‘em to th’ town jail. That way they’d get tried (I’d see t’that) an’ proper judgement can be passed b’fore they start dyin’ unnecessarily.”
