But what I understand that it means to research information in real life, and then use the information playing your character (which your character should not know yet). In-Character:

    Character Name: Thoric

    What Race are you?: Dwarf

What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race): None.

Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.):

Thoric was born in a cave deep in the ground far from civilization, his family had been living in the cave for centuries. As a young dwarf Thoric had ten brothers and five sisters, but he also had fifty cousins. Thoric's grandfather was the dwarf whom made the cave that now housed over one hundred dwarves, his name was Yurdtar and his wife was Yuanra.

Thoric's father Balis was a master miner , and everyday Thoric learned how to make mine shafts correctly. He also learned how to make natural support beams so that one would not have to use man made creations to keep a mine from collapsing. After four years of mining etiquette Thoric was given his first pickaxe. It was made of wood, not worthy of Thoric’s grasp. Clearly irritated, Thoric’s father explained that Thoric would have to create his tools out of the minerals he mined, and to never use tools made by another Dwarf so as to feel accomplishment in his crafts.

Thoric learned from the words of his father, and made his own mineshaft and pick. In this mineshaft he mined marble, stone, coal, iron, gold and gems of every shape and size! But as Thoric dug deeper his greed increased in great speeds.

Thoric went even further and since he was in the shaft everyday he made his own bedroom, his bed was made from white marble and had torches lining the room to keep him warm. But after years of falling rock, cave-ins and sleeping on a flat marble surface for eight hours a day, Thoric's skin became battered and bruised but his skin adapted over time to be stronger, harder and rough. So by the age of seventy-five Thoric’s skin resembled the stone around him. Falling rocks no longer hurt him and he rarely felt pain, and with the muscles he had obtained from the years of mining he could lift great boulders and rocks. But the knowledge of mining was not enough for Thoric. But one day he found his grandfather Yurdtar talking to some of his younger brothers and cousins.

Thoric stopped to listen and saw Yurdtar holding a strange tool made of leather, and what looked to be thin strips of stone. Yurdtar spoke of a world called Aegis and how he had fled the dying land, to Asulon. How he had made his decent and mined out their home, of how his great family thrived under the ground. He spoke of creatures Thoric had never heard of, Humans, Elves even a strange creature called the Orc. Thoric had only known of Slimes and Zombies that hid in the mines. He had fought many of them before. Ate stew made from their rotten meat and slime, when their wheat was still growing and not ready to be picked.

After Yurdtar finished his story Thoric asked what tool he held in his hand. His grandfather laughed and told Thoric that what he held in his hands was a book, and that the strange strips were called paper. When Thoric took a closer look he saw that there were strange symbols on the paper. Yurdtar told him that they were words, and by looking at them they told him stories. Thoric had never been so amazed in his whole life, books were even better then gems he thought. And after begging his grandfather at dinner to teach him how to read books, Thoric got to learn how to read for three hours everyday.

But as Thoric learned of the world above him and of the strange creatures that lived on it, he was envious. So on the day he mined the very bedrock that was said to be impossible to mine. He felt that there was nothing left for him to do in the underground caverns his family called home. So taking the resources he had collected over years of mining, five diamonds and a bag of gold from his father. Thoric began the long and dark journey up the great tunnel that had been used centuries ago by Yurdtar.

When Thoric reached the surface he let loose a large howl as the burning sun met his eyes, but Thoric was a dwarf and he walked on through what felt like scorching lava pouring onto your body. Which had happened to Thoric more than once, but after a hour of walking in the hot sun it became more of a tickle then pain. As Thoric’s body adjusted to the new temperature, he saw water which he had seen before underground and knew that there were large pools of water called lakes. He washed his face in the lake and drank large amounts of it; he also filled his water bags he had made from cow hide. While he drank he saw himself, Thoric had of course seen himself in gems and jewels but that was distorted and the water was clear so Thoric could see himself in full.

His beard was brown and tangled, which Thoric already knew but it looked different in the water. His face was broken in spots where rocks had fallen on his face, his nose bent to the right and his lips were torn and cut. His ears were hidden under his iron helm and hair.

After drinking he continued walking, far into what he thought was a forest and saw what he thought trees were, when he entered the forest what looked like small green papers on the trees blocked the sun’s heat, allowing Thoric to relax from the unnatural light and heat. He decided to rest awhile under a large tree before continuing onward.

Thoric woke to a strange sound but it was peaceful, Thoric shook his head wondering if he was cut out for the above world but he had to try. Living in a cave for over a hundred years was long enough, he wanted to fulfill his life left before he died. So he walked on looking for civilization. He walked for hours and eventually reached the edge to the forest, and as he walked past the edge of the tree-line he saw a great city.

Thoric quickly discovered that the city he had discovered was called Kal’urguan he had been greeted by fellow kin, and had told stories of how he had lived in his cavern home. Thoric was also invited to learn in great libraries and trained by sword masters. When Thoric wasn’t reading books in libraries he was practicing his swordsmanship, his trainers had been shocked when Thoric picked up a great hammer and swung it around with ease. His skill with a hammer was great because of his great strength, but using swords and knives were harder, he had to learn how to parry, swing and the correct sword techniques. Then he was buried in books, learning about Humans, Elfs and Orcs, he learned about how the above world of Asulon was much different from life underground.

Thoric spent so much time learning, that he had soon spent twenty-years in Kal’urguan. But he now felt prepared for the world of Asulon and ready to meet the other races, Thoric believed that Dwarves were the best race in Asulon. With the skill of mining, war, food and strength, he felt that his race was unstoppable and that he could do whatever he wanted. He had finally filled his thirst for knowledge and was ready for Asulon.

What is your Character's ambitions?: Thoric wants to have great knowledge of everything that he had missed living underground. Thoric also wants to become a great warrior among his race as well as the others and believes that his race is best.

What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc): The Pickaxe and Sword.

What is one of your Character's most skilled talents? Thoric is a great miner, and skilled swordsman. He also knows how to forge weapons and armor.

    Open-Response-Questions

Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond? Thoric draws his sword and bellows a war cry, the armed warriors flee from the Dwarf and he walks over to the Halfling. “Are you alright there lad” Thoric asks the Halfling. “Oh yes sir, thank you sir, please take this gold for rescuing me.” Thoric refuses the gold saying. “It is your gold my friend, now scurry off home before the men come back.” The small Halfling bows to Thoric and scampers off.

Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response? Thoric browses the wares but sees nothing better than Dwarf craft. So he just asks the man to polish and repair his sword and pick. When the man finishes Thoric gives him thirty Minas and a gold bar as a tip.

Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?: Thoric would explore the surrounding area looking for thieves or bandits. Upon finding no one and looking carefully in the shack, he grabs the chest and runs off. Just in case there were bandits somewhere close.

Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you you in the common tongue, how do you respond? “Good day sirs I am on my way back to Kal’urguan. I would like a place to stay, a meal and some ale I will pay in Minas and gems.” Then after staying the night and eating his fill he continued on his journey back to Kal’urguan.

You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?: Thoric immediately walks up to the guard and asks to join them, for an enemy of the dwarves are an enemy of Thoric. So as a group they run to where the bandits were last seen, they find a small camp with about fifteen of the bandits. Thoric’s group had only six dwarves, but Thoric knew that he and his brothers could easily take out the bandits. So Thoric let loose a war cry and charge into the camp sword flying. The town guard and Thoric were too skilled for the bandits and they quickly fell. Thoric thanked the guards for a good fight and left the loot and reward with the guards, and then walked back to Kal’urguan he had been reading a book on the history of Aegis.
