  1. I have an idea. If you need characters to be 'actors' in your event play, why not have moderators act as divine influences who are speaking to the character. And allow that character to act based on that influence. Might create more organic role-play.

Kinda new, but my advice for a villain would be to certainly decentralize. Make certain regions have their own sub-villains, to serve the higher evil. That way the overall evil can still be a very local and very solvable problem, and the comman man can feel like he helped save the day by standing up to the Big Bad's thug. This may mean more work, certainly, but I think the payoff of having areas fight their own battles and their own villains. It'll bring together regions and give them a common goal. And if those people fail, and one of the Big Bad's henchmen survive, well......

Sub villans or sub events sounds like a great idea honestly. Instead of always having the 'antagonist' try to create huge cosmic disturbances that affect everyone through taint or nonsense, event team members could be assigned to a region.

Like "Oh the elves haven't had some weird talking tree plot against their village for some time, lets send an event team member to the forest to create some localized roleplay event there."

Then other races could find out and go "Hey, there's some crazy things going on near the elven city! Maybe we could go check it out?"

Sounds like it'd encourage roleplay to me.

  2. If the purpose of the tomes was to create role-play with their existence, then they should be given to roleplay-centric players or those most interested in using them if possible, unless randomish distribution was also important. i.e. don't give them to people who like building wealth or groups, because amassing power is important to them.

If the purpose was to create role-play, but that's not happening due to the tomes being hoarded, then their use should be mandatory if you possess a tome (or the tome will be reassigned by it's power or something). If the power is something that would be ridiculous if used often, then don't write that as a power OR cause them to decay with each mandatory use. That would force role play situations often, and put time-tables on super powerful tomes.

If the tomes force the user to use them (In hopefully interesting ways for many people) then they could create role play often instead of stagnating in some powerful figures dungeon, which sounds like the opposite of their intent.

  3. Alright so with violence we an basically continue doing exactly what were doing? Sounds good... But Samoblivion makes a good point regarding prostitution. Although I never even rp that sort of thing I really don't see the harm in FTBing for money. Describing anything isn't allowed in the first place so it seems like more of an uneasiness with the whole concept that would bar it.

EDIT: Eh sorry Forum mods. didn't see your posts 'bout not complaining before starting this one. I'm done here.

  4. PAY ATTENTION to what is being said regarding violence. YOU CAN STILL PERFORM TORTURE AND THINGS SUCH AS THAT. You just can't do it in a manner of describing it to the extent that you'd actually see in a 18+ horror film. You CAN still disembowel yourself or others, decapitate and things such as that. You CAN perform cannibalism. You CAN eat other people's organs. You CAN do all these things.

That is allowed, that isn't the type of sexual references we were referring to. The type of reference that is banned is more describing or referencing to sexual acts, or what happened during a FTB.

I don't mean any disrespect when I say this but... Not describing things is called role playing badly. Less enjoyable ya know?

  5. HAELUN'OR CITIZENSHIP APPLICATION:

    Name: Alkali Tairn

    Truename ((MCName)): Obmar

Origin: I can't say I'm proud of my past but seeing as I had no control over my upbringing being honest seems like the best choice. My mother Cynthia Tairn lived in a mining town of dwarves to the far North of Karik long before the dragon was released into the city. I was born there and was taught high elven history and knowledge by my mother Cynthia. When I matured I realized that living among dwarves offered me no hope of advancement and decided to leave. Since then I have roamed Asulon occasionally settling down but never for long.

How can you declare you are Mali'thill:My mother and father before me were both of thill blood. My mother who had been born in a city entirely high elven made sure I understood my purity and the ways of my race.

Why do you wish to become a citizen of Haelun'or: I have long lived among humans and dwarves who could teach me nothing and now seek the knowledge of my kin.

What is your personal vision for our blessed race: The high elves should serve as a guiding light for the inferior races. We should spread our system of government and the ways of logic instead of their monarchy's lead by 'honor' or revenge.

What does maehr'sae hiylun'ehya mean to you: If the highelves hope to advance as a race, our knowledge must grow and our lives must be long and full of prosperity. It simply promotes learning and medicine.

What Elven phrase do you particularly take to heart? Please explain why: "maelu'leh kathir, maelu'eyha hileia" Know your foe and know peace. I believe that the best way to win a war is to fight it through knowledge. If a warrior knows how his opponent will strike, he will block it with ease.

What is the subject of the first book you will submit to the college: A military manuscript with basic tactics. While I was trapped in the library I noticed a stunning lack of articles on war. While it is vile and should be avoided, it is better to be prepared than to be caught off guard.

What would be your reaction if you ever saw a human, orc and unknown Mali'aheral travel the roads from Alras together: I would frown upon the high elf for associating with an orc in a time of distrust and war. It's unlikely the orcs are smart enough to enlist spies but it's still not wise to travel with one. I have no quarrel with humans other than the Flay who are violent fools and cannot be trusted.

What home would you like to receive: I would like a small hall if one available seeing as I cannot afford anything else at the moment.(if left blank you will be granted one of the free residences, if one is available).

Are there any other details about yourself you wish to relay to the council: I fought many battles while a soldier of the now extinguished city state of Enismor and have learned from the mistakes of others. Should you seek my wisdom I am always willing to answer questions.

  6. Out-Of-Character

    Minecraft Account Name:

    Obmar

    How old are you?:

    Seventeen

    Time-Zone/Country of Residence:

    USA, East coast, -5 GMT

Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?:

Yes i'm a native speaker here. Never had any problems with it.

Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself:

I'm a 5ft 11' cross country runner from the US. On my free time I like to RP mine craft servers or build (which I think I'm fairly good at.) I'm aiming to become either an Architect or Engineer depending on which one I like more near the end of High school.

How much time could you be on the server weekly?:

Quite a bit of time. Most of my mates are heading out of town for the first half or so of summer soo I figure I might as well have fun on here haha. 20+ hours a week.

What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you:

To me, role playing is to forget about who you really are and try to take on the characteristics of someone new who you've created. I usually try to give my characters features and flaws that I don't have to keep things interesting.

What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?:

Since I was young (around 11 or so) I've been role playing through videogames. About a year and a half ago I began to get into hardcore mine craft RP on servers like "Kingdoms of Aeonis". Up until recently KOA was my personal favorite due to the community of friends I built up around it. Sadly its been down for some time due to a host problem so I'm experimenting with others. If I like it here I might try to invite afew of them over as well

In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is:

Using information your character couldn't possibly know. Like say... if your sitting at the bottom of a well and someone says in global "Omg! There's a huge bandit party moving towards Solace!" It would be major metagaming to run around the city warning everyone about it. Oh and I'm not entirely sure on this but I think it also covers god modding hits in RP fights. Possibly.

In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Gaming is:

Making your character much too powerful, forcing hits on others during a RP fight, dodging completely everything, ect. Ex. "Alkali's enchanted unholy holy blade of un-dodgeableness smashes through the flimsy diamond armor tearing through the goblins heart. There is no way he could evade such a powerful hit! For Alkali is a Demigod elf from the fires of hell!" On my old server we had a joke thread for power gaming battles since they were usually hilarious haha.

What do you expect this server will be like?:

I've heard from afew people on your server that it's very well made and managed. I'm hoping for frequent RP instead of having to roam the world with no hope of finding anything.

What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?:

Mentioned above but "Kingdoms of Aeonis" has been my main server for over a year. Its another hardcore RP server that has been down for over a month now soo… have to move on sometime.

Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?:

I agree with them (most are common sense) but I have a question about the lying rule. Is that OOC or IC lying? My characters are often a bit mischievous but not evil and sometimes tell white lies to get out of trouble for sneaking around or something simple. Not being able to lie seems excessively good 0.o

Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules:

Yeah I promise. No major problems with them. If I really can’t lie I'll just tell "selective truth" I guess haha.

How did you hear about us? Did someone refer you?:

I was playing on one of the Survival Games servers and ran into AspectGC (maybe AspecttGC). I asked her about the elven skin she had, she brought up this server, so here I am.

Have you previously made an Application? If so could you link us to your last Application?:

    Nope. Not here.

Have you posted this application on our minecraft forum thread yet? If not, just finish it up on here and then copy + paste is over there. (http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/832121-%E2%96%91%E2%96%92%E2%96%93-the-lord-of-the-craft-%E2%96%93%E2%96%92%E2%96%91-enter-the-world-of-asulon-o-f-f-i-c-i-a-l-l-y-t-h-e-n-o-1-r-p-s-e-r-v-e-r/):

Sure I'll do that right after I post.

    In-Character:

    Character Name:

    Alkali Tairn

    What Race are you?:

    High Elf.

What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race):

    He is high.

Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.):

Alkali Tairn was born a high elf in the snow covered wilds of the far North and raised alone, by his mother Cynthia Tairn. His father had been a traveling merchant who skipped town shortly after Alkali was born. They lived in one of the many iron mining settlements dotting the eroded mountain tops outside of Kal'Urguan the dwarven capitol and made their living hunting elk. A majority of the residents of the mining town were dwarves with short stubby limbs not suited for hunting. Because of this Cynthia had little competition and had become a well-respected wealthy member of the community. The bitter cold kept furs in constant demand so hunters began training their children at very young ages to increase income. Cynthia passed her knowledge of archery and herbalism to the young elf kindly telling him “Remember the ways of the forest Alky and you will never go hungry. Your bow will feed you and the forest will mend your wounds.” Under her guidance Alkali quickly became an expert marksman and decent herbalist. His knowledge of plant life and skill with a bow saved him too many times to bother counting. Alkali usually dresses in a leather chest plate, green clothes passed through his family, and fur boots to silently move through the underbrush. His green checkered headband helps keep his long blond bangs out of his eyes and shades them during hunting treks.

For some time Alkali felt at home among the dwarves and at peace moving through the pines and snow covered forest. The few elves that did live there picked up the speaking patterns and mannerisms of the miners so feeling accepted was never a problem, though most thought it a burden to be ruled by the dwarven king Broski Braveaxe. Even though most local dwarves respected the elves travelers from Kal'urguan still saw the elves as outsiders often getting into arguments with them. High elves like Cynthia and Alkali still couldn’t help feeling superior to their stubby neighbors but did a good job of keeping it to themselves and avoiding fights with drunken dwarves. Alkali however was always up for a challenge so competing against dwarves with a bow and learning the tricks and patterns of the forest creatures excited him... for a time. A day came when the animals ran out of new tricks and he had bested the dwarves one too many times, Alkali began to grow tired of the mining town and tired of hunting. At the age of twenty seven he sold his home, visited his mother, and wished her good health. He explained he was setting off in search of adventure. Very few people ever left the small town so the village put together a sendoff celebration. The elf wished everyone farewell and setoff into the wilderness taking only his bow, survival equipment, and a puppy to keep him company. Alkali has been roaming Asulon ever since living happily as a nomad with his mutt Garr only occasionally settling down.

    What are your Character's ambitions?:

Alkali hopes to find somewhere that make a difference with new challenges he can overcome. More than anything he simply wants to experience the thrill of something new and wonderful. Take in foreign cultures, learn new things, and make friends along the way.

What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc):

    A re-curve hunting bow.

What is one of your Character's most skilled talents?

He’s an expert marksman with years of trapping and hunting experience.

A screenshot of your skin (must be in proper format, if you do not know how to acquire one, click here: http://www.lordofthecraft.net/forum/index.php?/topic/51343-how-to-obtain-your-skin-screenshot/):

The one looking directly at the camera is Alkali. This was taken on my old server in a cathedral. 8-)

    Other Information about your Character:

He's prone to bragging about his deeds or being rude to others and may sometimes come across as arrogant or cocky. Alkali worries about what others think of him and occasionally goes out of his way to nourish his built in superiority complex.

    Open-Response-Questions

Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond?

Pausing for a moment Alkali notches an arrow and silently steps off the trail attempting to blend with the underbrush. Moving to a tall oak Alkali climbs careful not to snap a branch, perches 20 feet off the ground, readies his bow, and shouts. “Leave the halfling alone or risk your life.” He had done this many times before when warding off bandits during his journey so Alkali wasn’t concerned. The thugs turn to each other worriedly then one says. “There ‘re two of us! You better scram ‘f you know what’s good for ya!” Alkali calmly replies “You cannot reach me n’ ay’m quick with a bow. Ay’ll give you one last chance to leave ‘em be!” One of the thugs draws his blade thrusting towards the Halfling. Within half a second Alkali let loose his arrow piercing the man’s wrist sending the sword to the ground. Alkali squints and quickly thinks “Ay was aiming for his hand! Ay’m out of practice.” Then notches another arrow and aims towards the other thug, both of whom were sprinting away down the path with the Halfling running the opposite direction. Alkali lowers his bow and hops down thinking “Ehh…. Problem solved I s’pose.”

Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well-dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response?

Toting a small deer on his shoulders he walks to the stall and sets the deer down. Turning to the merchant he replies. “Ay’m looking to sell off my game. You wouldn’t ‘appen to need furs or meat?” The merchant shrugs and says “Spose I could use a deer pelt. How about ‘ay pay you 30 eh?” Alkali raises his hand to say no and then motions to the deer. “A pelt of this quality goes for atleast 50 resale around ‘ere. You could afford to pay 37.” Frowning a bit the merchant replies “You’re killin’ me ‘ere…” the merchant pauses for a moment stroking his chin then continues, “Very well ay’ll take it. Don’t expect to get off so easily anywhere else though.” Alkali chuckles and begins to skin the meat…

Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?:

Eyeing the iron alkali reasons… “Well ‘f somebody does live ‘ere they’ll probably need food…” Pausing for a moment alkali grins and thinks. “Ay’ll just leave some meat n’ make these bars into arrow heads.” Reaching inside he quickly snags two iron bars, replaces them with a salted chunk of meat and wanders back into the forest.

Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you in the common tongue, how do you respond?

Alkali waves and sits down around a fire warming his hands and says. “Hard to admit for a hunter like myself but ay’ve not had much luck recently. What do you ‘ave in terms of food?” The traders lug a sack full of salted pork from one of their tents and spread it out on a tarp. One of the traders says “ If you’d like some meat it’ll be 20. How about it elf?” Alkali frowns saying “Ay’d normally go somewhere else with such subpar cuts but… I guess these will do.” He takes out his coin pouch, pays the man, and immediately starts chomping on the meat trying not to appear too desperate.

You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?:

From the back of the crowd Alkali raises his hand, smiles, and says "Ay'll help clear 'em out so don't worry a bit. 'F anyone should worry it's those fools outside waiting to catch n' arrow through the neck." The head of the guard turns and nods saying "A'right you can come. Just be careful n' don't do n'ything I wouldn't..." Alkali continues grinning and says "Very well! Let’s get moving then! I know you humans need plenty of time to catch your breath" A few of the guards laughed uneasily "Your too eager. Not sure 'f that's a good thing 're not." Midway through the sentence Alkali began walking towards the gates notching an arrow and smiling cockily “Ready when you ‘r."
