What is roleplaying?: Roleplaying is a means of acting out a character and suiting it to a certain setting, such as a fantasy world or a universe far unlike our own.
What is metagaming?: Metagaming is when one uses information that you may known out of character in in-character situations.
What is powergaming?: Powergaming is the act of enhancing the skill of a character to the point where he/she can be superior to others in certain situations. For example, this could be through invulnerability to damage, or being able to avoid the attacks and actions of others around him/her.
In-Character Information
Now you actually make your character - be creative but stay reasonable! Make sure they make sense and that they follow lore. Try to come up with a character that you actually want to play.
Character’s name: Gareth Roger Howell.
Character’s gender: Male.
Character’s race: Highlander Human.
Character’s age: Thirty-nine / 39.
Biography (Please make it a decent two paragraphs long. Remember to add server lore, and events that happened to your character so that they don’t contradict history.):
Gareth Howell was born to Martha and Connor Howell in the year 1468, a healthy and lively young babe. His childhood was fairly simple, as the family lived comfortably in a small hamlet ten miles outside the city of Petrus. His father Connor was the blacksmith, though his talents didn’t exceed far past smithing horseshoes and repairing tools. As his father spent all day in the heat of the forge, and his mother Martha tended to the household, Gareth was left alone in the care of his older brother Edward. Although a little lonely, and secluded, Gareth genuinely enjoyed his childhood.
At the age of twelve, Gareth became apprenticed to his father in the family forge. His brother Edward was then twenty, and left to serve in the military when Petrus was subjugated under Renatus. During this adolescence, Gareth learnt the art of blacksmithing, eventually ending his apprenticeship when he reached the age of nineteen, alongside learning how to wield an axe for defense. Over the following decade, Gareth resolved himself to travelling, finally leaving the comfort of the family home. The struggles in the kingdoms disinterested him, as he chose to seek employment elsewhere and settle down in the countryside. However, Gareth was recalled to Petrus, by now under the control of the Reformed Kingdom of Oren, where he moved in with his older brother and put his skills as a blacksmith to a more practical use.
Personality Traits: Jovial, dedicated, determined, sociable, blunt, quick-thinking, stubborn.
Ambitions: Gareth wants to put his talent as a blacksmith to good use in Athera, hopefully being recognized for the precision and dedication with which he crafts his items. On a side-note, the gregarious fellow aims to spend many a day socializing and forming friendships which may lead him on to potential benefits.
Strengths/Talents: Gareth is an excellent blacksmith, mastering his talents over 27 years of experience. His knowledge of smithing and metalwork means he can craft a variety of things from intricately-detailed swords to the simplest of tools. Furthermore, Gareth Howell is, despite his age, able to fight with some degree of comptetency. He has trained himself with an axe and shield in his spare time for two decades, rather enjoying the prospect of using them in combat.
Weaknesses/Inabilities: Gareth was once stabbed in the knee by a bandit on the roadside during his travels. Although it healed thanks to the town medic he visited, the leg still pains him if he is too fatigued or if pressure is put upon it. Gareth also has limited proper education, having devoted his adolescence to an apprenticeship in blacksmithing – He can read and write, though other things such as history and languages are a difficult thing to learn.
Appearance (List the extra details of your characters appearance, IE; height & weight): Gareth stands at five foot eleven, weighing one hundred and eighty pounds. His body is quite muscular, owing to his combat training and career as a blacksmith, with the greatest percentage of muscle going to his arms and torso. Despite this, ol’ Gary has a bit of fat around his stomach and legs. Gareth’s skin is lightly tanned, but rough to touch. His hands are quite calloused as a result of many hours before the forge.
Gareth has medium-length brown hair which he keeps swept back, with a trimmed brown beard. His nose is crooked at the bridge, as if broken once in the past. Gareth’s eyes, however, distract attention from his burly features due to being dark blue, narrow, and possessing a keen and alert gaze.
Gareth wears rather simple clothing, not being able to afford extravagant fashions. His attire consists of a cheap pair of boots, rough brown trousers, a green shirt, and a leather doublet. He usually wears a frayed green travelling cloak too.
