  1. Well... hello there! This is somewhat awkward. I haven’t been on site in well... almost four years...

I was in my university undergraduate. I started playing with friends. Those friends stopped playing... and my life got quite busy. I had other games to play when I had spare time. I had extra-curricular activities (Historical European Martial Arts and Historical Reenactment mainly. And I started a job that I wound up keeping until just a month or two ago. It’d been a wild ride! Now I’m working a new job. I’m in my university post-graduate, and almost done with that. I’ve moved. I’m doing lots of other things now. But, I’ve been looking back into MineCraft a bit more seriously towards the end of 2018. There was another community I came back to initially, to see some friends I could still recognize on here... and I eventually did some searching and figured I’d apply to start roleplaying here...

Only to figure out I already had an account... which I almost immediately logged into... and I see that I have a character that I wrote a pretty decent backstory and application on...

That’s the awkward part I mentioned in the beginning!

But, not bad. Not bad at all, actually! I think I’ll be poking around to see what fun I can get up to here, even if on my own. I might try to drag some friends back if I can. I’ve completely forgotten everything about the server, and I’ll need to relearn my character, if not re-apply entirely. And then there’s the matter of making sure I can actually get on the server...

Well, all things to cover in due time. But, until then, I figure it’ll be nice to see who says hello! And see what I can do to gather my bearings.

    Cheers to exciting, new beginnings!

  2. What’s your Minecraft Account Name?:  Dominator046

    How old are you?:  20

Are you aware the server is PG-13: Yes.

Have you applied to this server before?: No.

Have you read and agreed to the rules?: Yes.

What’s the rule you agree with the most?: "It is the responsibility of the player to maintain understanding of the existing rules as the Staff Teams update them. "

Are there any rule(s) that confuse you or don’t make sense?: Not quite a rule, but an application instruction. In providing a location of birth for my character, I am uncertain how much leeway I have for expanding on a backstory for a character who would've existed on a prior map - given that you're now entering a new one with little history yet established. I have done my best to accommodate this.

How did you find out about Lord of the Craft?: A friend.

What is roleplaying?: Roleplaying is the act of creating an identity or persona, and engaging in activities portraying said persona.

What is metagaming?: Metagaming is the use of information that the character you're roleplaying wouldn't have access to within roleplay.

What is powergaming?: Powergaming is when one roleplayer assumes control of a character, situation, or some unintentional mechanic over another player.

    Biography:

Born distant from the high stone walls and towers of settled lands, young Mannelig was born under a naked sky, in a world where all things were observed in practicum. Raised in a family with brothers and sisters, of a father and mother who had lived proud lives and settled well. Mannelig was the youngest of three brothers, and the second youngest sibling of all when counted amongst his two sisters.

Living in the hinterlands of the human realms, Mannelig was raised as a young man with respect to the traditions of his worldly folk. Trained to run, jump, climb, row, herd, and also to wrestle and fight. He was a bright and happy young man, occasionally making mischief, but nothing of any malicious sort. He laughed, he shouted, he struggled, he survived, and became a stark young man beside his older brothers.

In the year 1498, war came to the human Kingdom of Oren. Though Mannelig's rural folk were not sworn to any knightly chivalry, they were astutely appalled by the assassination of the human king, and did brook no threat on the lands they occupied. As moving forces marched through the countryside, marshalling lances and levies as they went, one of Mannelig's older brothers both rose to undertake the calling - marching to war.

Life at home would be trying for Mannelig in the first months of the conflict, receiving little news of his brothers, or of battles far gone. The only way to get any news was from the infrequent travels to make trade with heartlanders. Mannelig turned in his sleep from worry, and couldn't bare his temper when swinging  a sword. He grew weary of his daily chores, as important as they were. He grew tired of hearing praises and woes sung for his brave older brothers. Not long after the turn of his eighteenth birthday, though long considered a man, Mannelig gathered his things as a force of men made ready to head into battle and joined their ranks.

The second year of the conflict with the High Elves may have been worse or greater in brutality depending on whom you ask. For Mannelig it  was a horrifying glimpse into true warfare. He was a young man whom had seen combat in the form of bandits occasionally passing the country-side - at one point, he and his brothers actually combating a small group. His instruction, his training, and the conditioning he gained from living off the land and doing so actively with his folk prepared him better than some. He would not die in that first year of combat, he would survive the campaign until the subjugation of the Elven offensive.

Time is taken by Mannelig to come home from his campaigning in the war, only to learn that his brothers were not so lucky. His eldest brother was maimed, losing one eye and having a scar upon his face. The brother middling in age between Mannelig and the eldest had lost his life. Survivor's guilt and an inability to settle after being drilled into combat for over a year, Mannelig would struggle in his life back home. He never wanted to shed blood again, but he only felt comfort when he held a sword in his hand. Though many wished him to stay, friends, family, and others - Mannelig would have no problem rejoining the armed forces he served with prior, and re-entering the war before a year had passed.

For the next four years, Mannelig became a professional soldier. He took well to serving by his brothers in arms, fighting in full armor in both skirmish and in mass. For his home and his folk, Mannelig did what he did. Every battle, he felt ashamed for what he did, fearful for his life, sorrowful for the loss of life, and proud for defending those near to him. He would see continued combat for the rest of the war. Four years between then and 1505 when the peace treaty was finally signed.

Returning home after the conflict, Mannelig would feel alien and distant to those people that he loved. They were makers, survivors, and honorable folk. Mannelig had become a killer of men, sworn to cause, but with a heart made of misty fog. Mannelig would offer his love to those he knew, and would return many times in the following years, but he would find distance between them as he took to becoming a sword for hire. Taking into consideration his traditional and culturally based upbringing, Mannelig would not sell his honor as a base sellsword. Instead, Mannelig would offer himself as a housecarl, a defender, bought for those who needed a strong arm to defend their lives - not to take another. Mannelig would find work steadily, gaining skill and experience, though hard pressed for coin, before the doom of Athera came for them.

Personality Traits: Mannelig Lotharsson is traditional, honorable, superstitious, and blunt. He was raised in a rural community with a strong culture and world-view. He was raised to be self-reliant and self-sufficient, and grew to value those traits quite dearly. Mannelig is somber perhaps, but not apathetic. He will acknowledge the plights of others, even though he may not care for them. He has seen much of the world in his time at war before the fall of Athera, and has had time to see that different people have different ways of doing things. Though he may not approve, nor quite acknowledge them as equal, he is perhaps more open-minded than some.

Ambitions: Mannelig Lotharsson has a strong desire to uphold his personal honor, this does not imply honor on the battlefield - which he believes is foolish and will result in death. He wishes to find glory and to defend those who cannot defend themselves; if only for his personal, ingrown beliefs of right and wrong.

Strengths/Talents: Mannelig Lotharsson is physically strong, with considerable muscle strength and impressive muscular endurance. He has been trained to fight, and has many years experience doing such. He has been trained to meet problems head on, and to trust himself to handle them. Mannelig has also seen much, and may be wise for his age in some aspects.

Weaknesses/Inabilities: Mannelig Lotharsson is unsophisticated and largely uneducated. He is a man who is both superstitious and blunt, making study of magic, scholastics, or intrigue nigh impossible. He is quite gullible and easy to deceive, particularly in the ways of guile and diplomacy. Mannelig is also innately mistrustful of magic users.

Appearance:  Mannelig Lotharsson is a fully grown man taking in the bold features running in the blood of his people. He stands at a height of roughly five feet and ten inches, with significantly muscled build honed from his life within the wilds, his early life's instruction at the forge, and his work continued efforts with the sword. Mannelig’s shoulders sit broadly upon his frame. His bold features run together with a strong facial square structure, set with a moderate jaw, undefined nose, well-set proportionate eyes. This structure, along with detailing features, can give a heartwarming smile its glow or his wolf-stare its potency. His features are set with a full beard, often forked into braids. Atop his head is an autumn mane of long flaxen hair, flowing wavy and strong. Sitting in their sockets are two deep green eyes with all the hues and strength of that wilderland that is his home. Upon this form run several scars, suggesting to the dangers a Highlander may withstand; one scar in particular show on Mannelig, running from his left jaw up just beside his nose - beneath the left eye. He keeps hold of most of his teeth, not perfect, but fitted and colored reasonably so due to good hygiene. All the while his imposing nature is backed by a fire in his eyes, and his voice beckons deep with the strength forged outside of city walls.
