What is roleplaying?: So, you just had a super rough day at work. They sweetened your morning coffee, and, since you were up far past your normal hour of rest due to your horrid boss moving up your paper's deadline by a week, you decided, to no avail, argue with the high school Starbucks employee who is there because their mom forced them to get a summer job, leading to you arriving to work late. The late arrival leads to your boss hounding at you, and all you want to do is come home and unwind. You pull up at half-past five in your driveway, toss your coat on the sofa and inhale deeply. Your mind is clear, and you are no longer that middle-aged guy an a dead-end job where no matter how hard you work your boss won’t appreciate you; you are now a Norse hunter patrolling the frigid forests of Northern Elysium, struggling to find enough food in the harsh conditions to stay alive. Roleplaying is completely forgetting all you know about your own struggles and endeavours, and immersing yourself in another’s shoes, thinking as they would, acting as they would, living as they would. Your speech, emotions, and characteristics are left outside; here, you inherit an entirely different set of traits. In the real world you have all of the knowledge of science and medicine; but here, all you know is how to stitch up a wound with rawhide, drinking mead until the pain goes away, praying that fever doesn’t set in. feeling the freedom of the mountains, the howling of the wind; and when its over, quietly returning to reality, tucking under the blanket in preparation for another day in the work world, the world of modern society once again.

What is metagaming?: Meta-gaming is a situation in which a player knows information that their character would not, but the character acts on this information in a completely unrealistic manner due to the player’s desire to shape circumstances to suit their personal goals with little regard for the storyline and general community. A character can only act on information that the character has learned through roleplay and extended roleplay; if the player heard of a murder plot for their character on an external forum, they better be as unsuspecting as ever, not waiting at the door with a sword because ‘they had a feeling’ something was going to go down.

What is power-emoting (powergaming)?: Power-gaming is an awful 'style' of gaming in which the player completely disregards their character's traits, abilities, weaknesses, and surrounding circumstances, and unrealistically performs tasks in a way that a world-record holder would, even though the character may just be a weak peasant. Essentially, it is the act of ignoring roleplay, lore, and character abilities in favour of doing tasks in the most efficient and superhuman way; for example, if the fat bard sprints several miles or the frail elder man fights of a horde of zombies, that player is powergaming; he’s allowing his character to act in ways that are completely unrealistic to their traits due to it being the easier, more ideal approach. Tough luck hun, this is RP. If you get stabbed, you aren’t going to just drink a soup and be right back to running a marathon.

    In-Character Information
Now you actually make your character - be creative but stay reasonable! Make sure they make sense and that they follow lore. Try to come up with a character that you actually want to play.

    Character’s name: Brice

    Character’s sex: male

    Character’s race: human

    Character’s age: 18

Biography  (Please make it a decent two paragraphs long. Remember to add three references to the server lore): (where does your character come from?; where have they traveled to?; what year were they born in? et cetera.)

Brice was born to a young barmaid in the village of Halshire, located in the Holy Orenian Empire. Beth was only fifteen when she birthed her bastard, little more than a child herself - yet the innkeeper she worked for allowed her to stay on, with her son sharing her quarters. His mother wasn’t a curvaceous woman, yet her features were those of pure beauty. She had warm, supple lips, and eyes as blue as the sea - it was no mystery to the townsfolk why the tavern owner had put a child into her belly. Brice’s childhood was one of hard work, with both the lad and his mother scrapping for what they required to get by. He acted as the Inn’s equivalent to a cabin boy; he scrubbed the floors, cleaned the chicken coops, and saw to the work nobody else had the stomach for. Brice often aided his mother in the kitchen; she was quite the cook, and her son had inherited this gift. By only nine years of age, he was already impressing the patrons who passed through the Stone Lantern Inn. He was a fast learner, and an even faster worker - once all of his chores had been completed each evening, he occupied himself with conversing with the tavern guests, listening, learning, and cutting small bargains with them for trinkets which managed to catch his eye. Even at his young age, both his silver-tongue and charisma were evident. The region in which he spent his childhood lacked strife - there wasn’t a cloud on the horizon. Yet eventually, all good must come to pass.

The tavern owner's wife was less than pleased with her husband’s infatuation with Beth, and his refusal to toss Brice out with the beggars and gypsies. Yet she didn’t speak on this; Cedric was an abusive man, and Alys didn’t particularly favour the marks his blows left on her face. Yet one winter, Beth’s health deteriorated rapidly during a sweep of the common sickness; within days, she breathed her last breath. With his lover gone, Alys had far more manipulative power over Cedric; and a far greater ability to ensure Brice was sent away. He became a street urchin. He conned, begged, and scrapped his way through life - swindling when he could, and picking up odd jobs when he couldn't. His journeys took him across the Dutchy of Savoy, where he eventually travelled as a stowaway across the sea. Brice found himself in Haria - only time would tell what the world had in store for him.

    Personality Traits:
Brice is a charming young man. He is silver-tongued; although evident he comes from a lower class, he isn't afraid to reach out to those of the upper echalon. He seems to be a rather down-to-earth young man.

    Ambitions:

Brice intends to amass a fortune for himself someday.

    Strengths/Talents:
    -skills of persuasion
    -speed
    -lack of honour
-ability to sculpt his mannerisms to fit in with various crowds.

Weaknesses/Inabilities: (what is a skill that your character needs to work on?)

He's lanky. He lacks the thick muscle many men flaunt; he relies on strength over speed.
His reading abilities are rough around the edges.
He's selfish, which may leave him isolated down the road.
He may well overstep boundaries. Having lived on the streets in his later childhood, he's learned to be a scrapper.

Appearance: (what does your character look like?; how tall are they?; hair color?; scars?)

Brice is a pale young man of 6'0. He is thin; his muscle is lean, with a build created for speed. He has a scruffy face, clothed in garb typical of the lower-class; it is obvious that he isn't well-off. However, with eyes of sea-blue and a charming smile, his confidence matches that of a King.
