  1. horton is honestly such a boon to the server. his ideas are fresh and incredibly well thought-out—i mean, just look at those events. more importantly, though, he's demonstrated that he is ready and willing to put in the time to implement these ideas, not just make them and sit on them indefinitely. he is fun, devoted to his craft, dynamic, and reliable. any time i get to see him on the server is a good time. you'd really be missing out on an amazing opportunity with this kid, turning down this app.

    big +1 bud! ?

  2. (Sorry in advanced for the lengthy application!)

    Out-Of-Character Information

What’s your Minecraft account name?: the_KINGsRansom

    How old are you?: 22

What timezone are you in?: Pacific time-zone

Are you aware the server is PG-13: Yes

Have you read and agreed to the rules?: I have

What’s the rule you agree with the most?: “’Cyber-bullying’, through repeated harassment or any other means will not be tolerated. Those partaking in or promoting such will be severely punished.”

Are there any rule(s) that confuse you or don’t make sense?: Hack-Clients, mods, or texture packs that provide an advantage are completely disallowed…” I am not sure what constitutes a texture pack that “provides an advantage”? I use the A’therys Ascended texture pack as often as I can when I play Minecraft, because of its high quality; it has no hacker-like qualities to it, so will I be able to use it for LotC? Sorry for the silly question!

How did you find out about Lord of the Craft?: I was looking to leave the server I had been playing on; after doing some web-searching, I came across Lord of the Craft.

Link(s) to past Whitelist Applications: Not applicable

Have you logged into the server yet?: Yes

    Definitions

What is roleplaying?: Role-playing is the act of taking on the role of another person or thing. The player “becomes” the character, speaking, acting, and thinking as their character would, in order to tell a story.

What is metagaming?: Metagaming is the act of giving your character knowledge that they would not be privy to, within the bounds of the game. For example, if a player knows that the character they are interacting with is evil, the player cannot pass that knowledge on to their character—even if it means that their own character may be slain because of it.

What is power-emoting (powergaming)?: Power emoting/gaming is forcing an act upon another character, without giving the character a chance to react or counter. An example of this would be: “Urumwe lunged at the orc, ripping his throat out with her bare claws.” Because I controlled the outcome and did not allow the orc the opportunity to parry or dodge, I am power gaming.

    In-Character Information

    Character’s name: Malo’wen Briarwood

    Character’s sex: Female

Character’s race: Mali’ame—wood elf, fleet-footed child of the forest

Character’s age: 707 seeds, or 101 years, have passed since her birth in 1469

Biography: Malo’wen was born deep in the forestlands of Athera, before the days of Laureh’lin and subjugation and struggle. Her childhood was a happy one, enveloped in love and security. Her mother hailed from a proud lineage of druids and dryads, Aspectists in the purist form. Her father, once man of vigor and pluck, had spent his youth as a dutiful protector, as his father had done before him, and his grandfather before that. Each generation of Briarwood men served as faithful guardians, garnering respect by some, and revulsion by others. It was said that each clan entrusted to the Briarwood Seed was selected by providence, prophesied by elders long before any of their times. The truth, perhaps, was less impressive.

The Briarwood tree-home had been graced with not one, but two healthy children. A son, Lai’indir- born in Thales not three years sooner than his sister- laughed and grew with Malo’wen in Athera’s pristine forests. Yet tensions rose, as they always do. Before long, war had spread across the settlements. Children of Malin, brothers and sisters, fought, bled, and died at each other’s hands. Though her Seed had lived free of contentious politics, beyond the reaches of Laureh’lin, they found themselves at the mercy of vengeful factions soon enough. The Briarwoods took refuge with their Mali’ker brethren, until they too fractured. With the mali’ker family her father had served in his adolescence, Malo’wen’s Seed fled to Cer’lin, biding their time until the wars had ended.  For one, however, watching idly was unbearable.

Lai’indir shirked the safety of Cer’lin, bound to protect the precious, fledging city of Laureh’lin. He, like so many of his kind, lunged at the throat of mali’aheral masters. And soon, like so many of his kind, he fell.

In spite of their loss- or perhaps, in light of it- the Briarwood Seed trekked to Laureh’lin, where they bent the knee to an Orenian king, and burned what was left of Lai’indir’s body. The once-proud Seed grieved their losses: of home, of freedom, of child. When Malo’wen started to believe that the grieving would never end, she happened upon a human man—an Orenian, not unlike the King himself. To her, a mali’ame youngling with little else to do, the Orenian made a pact. Find his grandson, in years to come; a grandson he knew he’d have. And in his hour of need, guide him. Befriend him. Lead him to his destiny. In return, you will find what you seek.

While it was a curious, if not unfair pact, Malo’wen agreed. More than 70 years have passed, and her unlikely Oren friend rests in the ground with his father and kin; yet in the wind, she senses a stirring. Her time- her liege- has come.

Personality Traits: Warm, inviting, and gentle, Malo’wen tends to attract all manner of creatures, and she is loath to turn any away. As a result, she may be easily taken advantage of, but that’s not entirely to her dislike…though it is nigh impossible to find anything that is.

Malo’wen cherishes simplicity, preferring the otherworldly serenity of the Mother’s creation to bustling cities. Blessed by Cernunnos with a fletcher’s dexterous fingers, Malo’wen spends precious hours hunting—and when there isn’t a bow in her hands, there’s likely a lute, harp, pan pipe, or whittling knife in its place. Woodworking and music are dear to her. In the right mood, she is prone to even dance and sing.

Dark and anguished nights are what keep her awake, when the forests stir with discontent. Aggression, violence, and unyielding hatred are no one’s friend.

Ambitions: Malo’wen has little in the way of ambition. Truly, she is a simple soul. She seeks wisdom, goodness, and the ability to help where she can. To these ends, she strives towards knowledge of all things…and though it is yet unrealized, this desire will lead her towards magic.

Strengths/Talents: Nimble and sharp-eyed, Malo’wen excels in the woodlands from which she’s born. Among men, she is unsurpassed in archery, a trait shared between all Malinor’s forestlings. Although she could surely shoot a man before he even realized he had been stalked, Malo’wen is generally peaceful, patient, and prudent. She would sooner make an ally than a corpse, and is young and idyllic enough to believe that all men would do the same. Unfortunately, this idealism is both a strength and a weakness. At her best, Malo’wen is kind, generous, benevolent, wise, and constant. She is a boon to any ear that will heed her counsel, and will go to great lengths to aid those in need.

Weaknesses/Inabilities: Malo’wen fears making the wrong decision. When stakes are high and there’s no clear resolution, she sometimes becomes unresponsive, prone to fretting in isolation rather than facing impossible decisions. She falters when innocent lives hang in the balance. When the battle is a personal one, she refuses to share her troubles, even if it means her own prolonged suffering—which she is even slower to expose. Outside of these, her weaknesses are largely identical to others of her ilk. At her worst, Malo’wen is soft-spoken, naïve, too forgiving, and overly quick to sacrifice herself to a cause.

Appearance: Sage green eyes dart left and right, tracking prey from behind thick red lashes. A lock of hair- twisted and woven with tree twine- falls out from behind a pointed ear, freeing itself from the cluster of dreadlocks that reach for her waist.  Over the years, she has become accustomed to the criticisms that her unorthodox tresses garner—for an elf to wear such a low-brow, seemingly unkempt style is unbecoming of their pedigree, or so she hears. Had her hair grown straight and lovely as is characteristic of her kind, she might have taken to doting upon the long, ginger locks. For better or worse, though, she was born with hair as wild and tangled as the thorn bushes her Seed is named for. Rather than resent the fact, she celebrates it, decorating her hair with beads carved from stone and wood, weaved with tiva upon special occasion.

In build, she is slight; lean and compact, Malo’wen may tread the densest forest with elegance and ease, scarcely making noise with each passing footfall. Her skin, kissed by Cerridwen, resembles the color of oak, warm and tan. Upon her right arm, she bears the ilmyumier of her Seed—a thicket of golden thorns, twisted around the thin appendage. While considered short by some human measures, Malo’wen stands relatively tall for a wood elf, grasping for 5 feet. What little flesh resides on her bones is comprised mostly of tight, flexible muscle, with modest pockets of softness in between.

Malo’wen is far from the most beautiful creature in Cerridwen’s creation, but for those who can look past the curiosities- or perhaps, appreciate them- she may be a sight to behold.
