What magic(s) will you be teaching?

             Druidic Communion

Describe this magic or a creature as a whole:

Druidic Communion is the foundational core of the druidism magic. Having recompiled the abilities held within the branches of 'Communion and Control' into one more consolidated grouping that serves as the core ability set any Druid can and does learn to use assuming they have actually been taught the ability in question and are of the proper tier to have learned it. As the core magic, Druidic Communion  covers all of the basic abilities of druidism ranging from allowing the druid to listen to nature itself, to speaking with animals and the fae, growing trees to exceptional sizes given time and energy, or even ungrowing those very same trees or other plants. All of these and more are what one can come to learn and expect from the abilities contained within this core magic, those most used by any and all druids.

Within this all, Druidism allows for a wide range of creativity through its various abilities and how one might describe them. Offering plentiful opportunities for flavourful emotes and aesthetic choice in how a given druid happens to go about things. Between the wide variety of interesting tells a person could come up with, to the capabilities within the actual uses of the magic itself, there is plenty possible someone clever can make use of.

Are there different sections or subsections of magic? Can those be elaborated upon?

Yes! Within druidism you can find a number of subtypes for its abilities. These serve as a differentiating point for what the given abilities are and exist as follow.: Communion, Control, and Druidic Infusion.

Communion serves as the starting point for any newly attuned druid, easily the most important part of the magic. Any druid seeking to use their other abilities as such must first connect through communion. This connection then serves as the basis for anything comes after, in the case of this subset; that would be communicating with the flora and fauna of the natural world and further being able to differentiate out the voices of particular organisms from amidst the chorus of noise to be found within nature's song. This song- the cacophony someone is presented with is quite often distressing at first but is further something the budding druid will find comes easier with time and the honing of their skills as one who listens to nature and is able to communicate back.

Control is the second subset within the overall magic and by its very nature handles things more akin to requesting trees or roots to move, or a sapling to grow into a larger tree when presented with the enrgy it needs. This lies of course not in actively 'commanding' the nature around them but in requests and having a strong voice within the song yourself. Think of it more as coercing and convincing a plant to do something it was already naturally capable of doing had it the necessary energy provided by the druid.  Though at the same time this can also include things that wouldn't normally happen, such as convicing a plant to ungrow itself- effectively reversing in time to the point where it was once a sapling or a seed. Compared to Communion, Control is the far more direct influence of the druid presented within their abilities as opposed to just listening and communicating with it.

The final subset contained within Druidic Communion is that of Druidic Infusion. A far more freeform sort of ability set allowing for the creation of items with a variety of properties, or otherwise for the directing of energy into another druid. Essentially, it serves as a druidic form of enchanting but also covers the creation of certain things such as Singing Trees. However, this is something that still requires the use of Communion for connection.

Can you give an example of a casting emote, of a spell of your choice?

    Ungrowing:

[!]Quietly did the Rook settle her breath. Focusing upon it as she drew upon the connection to her Gifts. The gentle red haze that obscured amber hued eyes grew in vibrancy and the intensity of its glow as she formed her connection. So too then did that same earthen red glow coalesce about her hands as though a myriad smudges of potter's clay. Her breathing slowed to a rhythmic pace, carefully measured as a focus.

[!]From there did the druidess set sights upon her target- in this case a small tree no more than a couple inches in diameter, truly naught more than several years into its life. Still what had to be had to be done, the druidess concluded as she sought to connect with the tree in particular. Gently was the older wooden hand placed against it, as that potter's clay began to spread from her grasp to the tree, coating it in so many splotches of earthen red as she prepared to make her request of the tree.

[!]Those spreading natural energies from the druidess then acted as the subtle guide, a plea made unto the sapling to reverse course. Though nothing yet happened noticeably save for the continued swell of energies starting to coat the flora in question, earthen red glow seen in splotches and strands all along its trunk down to its base where it formed something of a small mound as she continued to attempt to guide the tree backwards.

[!]And then just as requested, nurtured and fueled by the Rook's energies did the tree begin to seemingly turn back time. Shrinking in size as the taper of its trunk thinned and its height decreased. Further its numerous branches began to thin as leaves furled inwards and disappeared back into the sprouts they had come from, before the branches themselves began to shrink as well. The druidess gives off a heavy huff of breath as the work only continued from there.

[!]A rather slow process all considered, as those roots of the tree soon shrunk back with its proportionate size, thinning until they snaked backwards and left little more than a small depression where the tree once met the ground. And then it wasn't until she had helped the tree pull up its roots and return to the size of a small sapling easily carried within ones arms did she relax. An exhausted huff of breath leaving the battered woman as the glow of energies faded from what was left of the tree and she settled down to gently pick it up and move it to a pot for safe-keeping.

Can you give an example of a teaching-emote (interacting with another) of a spell of your choice?

    Communion:

"I hope you got sleep, I know its likely been rather difficult." The Rook states gruffly as she leads the newly attuned druid through the forest. Deeper and deeper, past trees and glades where sun peeked through the canopy until they came to a grotto. Within this space humid air pooled as sunlight poured in through the opening of the cave roof. Water trickled all throughout warm and humid from natural springs within the rock. Verdant flora had taken up this natural habitat, ferns and bushes littering the ground and vines that hung down from that upper lip where the light came from. And amidst it all within the center, an old and gnarled tree. Only then did the Rook turn about to face her student as they approached the tree.

[!]Therein did she settle, the wooden right arm creaking as old wood bore the weight of her form, and she nestled herself amidst the roots of the tree. "Regardless of that, here and now we'll be starting with a lesson. Perhaps the most important one, that serves as the foundation for all that comes after. We call this communion, its our ability to hear and interpret all of this around us. It should help with your predicament too, in time."

"Oh? O-okay." The young druid echoed, a slow bob of their head given as they listened. "It will?" They asked somewhat excitedly before moving to settle down in front of Leyne. ".. how so? How can it help?"

[!]The Rook gave a considerable hum as she sat there, amber hued eyes closed for just a moment as her back rested against the trunk of the tree. "Slow yourself. We're in no hurry. However I'm glad you asked- but- perhaps its better to simply teach." She states with an exhale as she focuses her attention back upon her student. "Do you remember, back near the beginning of this when I had you working on meditation at all? Ti?" She paused for a moment, trailing off. "I want you to do that. Empty your mind. Still yourself."

"I- okay.. yeah.. alright I do.. and I can do that." The fledgling exhaled a deep breath leaving their mouth. Slowly then did they begin to settle into it, palms placed upon their thighs as they just.. breathed. A deep inhale through their mouth.. followed by an exhale through their nose. A steady rhythm begins to be sought out. Their eyes likewise soon closed.

[!]The rhythm of those breaths was all there was to it in the end, as they continued to sit there, silent. Slowing as they began to let everything around them flow over as water, every sound little more than backdrop. Even that which had kept them up lost amidst it all. Because of this did their heart slow, calming as they sought to put themself in a meditative state. The only thing left was to shed any thought towards anything, something easy enough now that they had reached this point.

[!]Finally then, did peace of mind descend upon the druid, a slow subtle nod of their head given to their teacher, as it all came into proper quiet focus once again. A small smile crossed their face as they held onto that meditative feeling.

"Ayla, marayla even." The Rook notes with genuine pride as she watched on for the entire process with amber hued eyes. "Keep at it, don't lose that state." She states all the while her gaze passed over the other, studying them. Waiting for just a moment to see to it that her student held true. "Okay, now." She states. "Those voices, that steady thrum in the back of your mind. I want you to focus on that, pull them to the front of your mind, but don't overthink it.." She states oddly gentle for her normally gruff exterior.

[!]The young druid gave another subtle silent nod as they did just that. Their brow furrowed and focus resumed as they called to mind that steady hum of background they had only just started getting accustomed to. It wasn't the easiest amidst everything but slowly they managed to hone in on it and hold that meditative focus all the same. Steady rhythmic breaths leaving them as they continued.

[!]This was not however to last it seemed as the young druid then falters, their breathing  becoming unsteady as they sought it out too hard and lost their hold. "Gah- I- I had it, then.. I lost it. Damn." They gave out amidst frustration, the meditative focus lost and that hum fading into the background once more. A hand was brought up to briefly slam down atop their knee. "Thats difficult.."

"Calm yourself." The Rook gave gently. A stark contrast to her normal demeanor as she looked upon her student with understanding eyes. "It is hard at first. Always is, for all of us." She states, her tone contrasting the existing gravel of her voice as she offered a genuine smile which pulled all sorts of oddly upon the myriad scars across her face. "I know you can do this, you've been through worse, managed to suffer through me and all that I threw at you in your tasks." She states, trailing off before adding in far sterner tone. "So try again, we'll keep at this until you manage it."

"I- y-yeah.. alright.. okay." They exhaled again and brought a hand up to measure the pacing of their breathing that way. "I can do this.." They echoed back, before closing their eyes again and bringing their mind to a still. Shedding off that frustration as quickly as it had appeared as the made ready to try it all once more...

Say your student powergames during or after teaching, how do you reprimand that?

My first course of action would be to approach the student, and politely explain what had been done wrong. From there my course would be to try and figure out where the misunderstanding had occured in the end. Depending on severity or whether it was a fault in my teaching I would seek to kindly correct and try and ensure the mistake wouldn't happen again. Throughout this, the attitude would not be to pin blame on the student, unless it was almost certainly purposefully done to get back at someone or something along those lines.

At such a point hopefully the mistake would then be corrected and not happen in future but if it persisted more action may need to be taken in the end. Usually this would occur through reaching out to a staff member to bring them up to speed on the situation and then explain what I had done to attempt to remedy it, further being honest should it have originally been a mistake in my teaching.

  5. Somewhere within the Vale a certain red-headed bard sat before the Shrine to Ohowaki. Silent, morose and hurting. She had not had the chance to say something she wished she had. And she had not been there to see them off. Only when she heard of the matter from Roylan did she suddenly feel herself break apart. She had not lost a friend before- even for as short a time as she had known the Snow Druid, she looked up to her.

"..You would want me to find inner balance again wouldn't you.." The young woman echoed hollowly. The words ringing in her ears for a moment as she spoke them aloud. A hand raised briefly to her eyes to wipe at them with a sigh. "But also ne to deny this.. Its difficult.. hurts.." She had never truly lost someone she looked to as a friend before and she sat there in silence for a time more. Something else ran through her mind then. And a promise echoed in the back of her head. A trip to make when she was able, and a final few words. "I'll.. be enough. And I'll come see you.." She spoke, and then sat for a time longer in hollow silence and prayer.

  6. The Rook sat by where the two had went for a time longer, words shared with another there before the crumbled stone pillars as she looked upon her stave. the oft stoic and upfront woman quiet and subdued as she ran a hand through the feathers that adorned it once more. Finally she came to the newly added hawk feather.. "I'll need to come across a feather for Liri too.. and she still owes me tea now.." She mumbled finally before she left the space.

  7. The younger druid present for the receiving of the letter, adds another to the clasp of feathers bound just below the handhold of her staff. For while she never knew who he was, he had meant something to someone else. So too would she mark his passing.

  11. When word first reached the ears of the dedicant she found herself reeling, hurt and angry. To have left without even so much as a word, it pained her to think this was the case. But as the days passed it became ever more evident this was in fact the case. And so she turned from anger to sorrow, as another had left her alone once more this time without a teacher. She found she could not blame her however, much like she could not blame her own maln for his actions before he left her too. And in a similar manner, the hurt and anger she initially felt, was turned into the driving force that kept her moving forward. Her resolve strengthened, her mind was soon made as ambition began to blossom within her being.

Perhaps should you return, I would hope you might be proud.. For unlike my maln, you still can.” The elfess would calmly speak the words into the wind standing upon the Vista point she had taken to watching the sky from, with the hopes that the wind might carry her words out to sea.

  12.

Even as she left the elven city of Caras Eldar, Leyne’s thoughts were still on the conversation she had with Awaiti. As she began to step through the main gate out of the city, she left behind her worries, if only temporarily. She glanced back a final time at the city, before setting forth for the forest ahead. IT wasn’t long before she was into the forest that she was calling back the lessons her maln had taught her, she was already beginning to the telltale signs of life. The cracked branches, prints within the dirt disheveled plants all told her this, yet none of these were yet what she was looking for. It became readily apparent to her that she would have to travel far deeper into the forest to find what she was looking for.

The further she ventured into the forest, the more she found it both alien and yet similarly welcoming. It was a much needed breath of fresh air when compared to the city itself. The further she went the more she heard the familiar sounds of wildlife all around, the birds in the trees, the occasional squirrel or chipmunk. As she continued into the forest watching for signs she hesitated briefly, for a moment her vision like she had entered a tunnel and an echo in the back of her mind telling her she could leave then and there. That she could abandon it all never to return, only to go back to living in the forest as her maln had. And a thought arose in her mind at that point, she had given Awaiti her word. Her word that she would support whatever path she chose, and would follow it in turn. It was the brief respite she needed to keep herself pushing forward, the respite that allowed her to steel her nerve. The sun had gone down not soon after and as it was getting rather difficult to track in the dark, she set about making a small fire so that she might rest before continuing on.

As she awoke the next day, Leyne made use of the freshly created charcoal from her small fire. With it she set about masking her own scent, so that she might avoid disturbing more of the wildlife as she got deeper into the forest. As she left she made sure to spread the ashes of the fire about so that they wouldn’t start further fires, and it wasn’t soon after she continued on that she found the first signs of what she was looking for. Long before she even got close to them she already knew this was what she had been looking for and the thought of it made her heart skip a beat. As she got closer and closer the elfess decided her best option would be to post up within a tree, careful not to draw attention to her presence with noise. She told herself that it was simply for visibility reasons, as opposed to somewhere she thought she would be safest if she got too close.

It was a few moments before she saw the first flickers of grey which made her heart race and her mind enter a panic. The distinct shapes of the predators she had feared for most of her life sent shivers up her spine and made her hair stand on end. Quickly memories were brought to the fore of her mind, how the mother wolf had clamped down on her arm and shook her like she was nothing. And then how it had ripped into her face with the claws it was given, narrowly missing her eyes. And yet she continued to watch from her post, willing herself to calm down and dispelling the visions from her mind. As she steadied herself, she let forth a breath she hadn’t been aware she was holding and allowed herself to relax between the branch of the tree and its base. She could already tell however she would get little sleep tonight and the little she did get would be rife with nightmares.

Despite this she continued to watch them, from her post for the following weeks. Only moving so that she might forage both food and water. In that downtime her mind strayed to the thought of the Seeds of the Mali’ame, and her talk with Guyden. How he had given her much to think about at the time, and also managed to reassure her. Then her mind further went to the other acquaintances she had made throughout her time in the city, and how they had each their own effect. However miniscule or large an effect it was, and how she might proceed from here. And yet this all faded as she returned to the task at hand, as she climbed once more back into the tree.

Over the coming weeks she became keenly aware of the wolves presence presence, how they responded to certain things. And almost seemed to characterise each, giving a name and voice to all that she saw. She grew to recognise distinct features in each, and soon after the first week she slept soundly despite her proximity. They were but another thing for her to be wary of in her travels, a danger but no more than she made them out to be. No longer would she find herself hindered by their presence. No longer would their presence be harmful to her mental state. And it wasn’t long before she came to this realisation, and decided her stay was over.

On her journey back to Caras Eldar, she found it somewhat odd that the presence she had come to recognise was no longer there. And she smiled and thought about how she might return at some point to watch them again, for in some ways they had taught her much.

    In-Character Information

    Character’s name: Stirling Aspen

    Character’s sex: Female

    Character’s race: Human

    Character’s age: 19

    Biography :

Born to a family of merchants having fled the previous realm of Vailor, Stirling was born in 1584 and quickly found herself learning to put together numbers and come up with costs at an early age. In the new land of Axios, where it seemed various products were always in high request, her family made their living, traveling from Courland to Haense and many places between, trading with whoever they could. Thus her early life was filled with travel and she soon learned to love it. Always seeing new places, and new faces. Though her family was an accomplished trade company, she found her love for music greater than her love for trade.
