Lali's birth was nothing short of a miracle, a jewel in her parent's lives amidst tenuous times. As Richard and Elli'nali fled from the failing Isles of Vailor on migration vessels commissioned by the Orenian Empire, stress was palpable. Leaving Fergant Breweries to rot in derelict disuse on Vailor, Richard found his heavy investment barely breaking even, only able to scrounge together basic brewing tools from the storehouse before fleeing to the docks. Coupled with Elli'nali's incredibly fortuitous but unfortunately timed pregnancy, the elfess stepped onto the deck of the ship at the turn of her ninth month in pregnancy. Only a few days into the voyage, Elli'nali was ushered into a private storeroom in the bowels of the ship, assuring an adequate level of privacy as she found herself in labor. After a strenuous eighteen hours, Lali was born, a healthy young girl of half-elven lineage. Named by her mother out of fairness, the girl adopted her father's surname, an enduring token to her human ancestry.
The family settled in a small cottage near the edge of the Dominion of Malin following the trek, but poor fortune followed the family even to their rustic home in the woods. Brewing an assortment of adequate alcohol, Richard took many trips to Linandria, only to find the elves with no taste for his comparatively brutish tasting beers and stouts. Short on money, the family moved into the borders of the Orenian Empire to the north, finding business amongst the humans more acquainted to the tastes. Finding a quaint townhome, Richard sustained the family with his budding brewing business, while Elli'nali educated Lali, taking her about the city, and in the summers, out on trips into the Dominion of Malin, camping, flower-picking, and doing other such activities. Lali found a particular delight in spending time with her mother in this way, finding a special reminiscent love for nature, a gift from her wood elven heritage. Though, as she got along in years, she began to find the cultures conflicting when it came to finding what to believe in, morals to follow, and other dilemmas of identity.
"So..." Lali visibly struggled to find the words as she stared up at her mother, "you and Father don't believe in the same gods, do you?"
"Oh Lali." her mother would bend down, gingerly patting the nine-year old on the shoulder, offering her a reassuring smile, "You know your father is a member of the church."
"So what do you believe in?"
"You know this, Lali. I believe in the Aspects, most Wood Elves do. You can too, if you'd like."
"Well, which one should I believe in."
"Whichever one you'd like."
Lali's belief in both faiths shifted over the course of her adolescence, until she found a comfortable balance of believing in both, and practicing both faiths to some degree simultaneously. Nearing eighteen years of age, she found adulthood in the culture of Oren, not only helping her father brew and sell his drinks to the folks of Oren's many cities, but also partaking in them as well. She became an aficionado of sorts, absorbing the slang in the backs of taverns and putting it into practice in her brewing. She grew incredibly close to her father in this time, working side-by-side a great deal. Over the course of a near decade, she enjoyed her status as an elven child by remaining in her parent's home, while enjoying the perks of human adulthood in bars and work. This slowed to a end with her father's sickness. It was not unheard of nor unexpected, in his upper nineties, he caught a chill one night that had him seized in bed. His friends and family all visited, shared their condolences, and brought well-wishes. Unfortunately, within the week, the light had left Lali's father's eyes, and he was not one with the waking world any longer. The fracturing remains of the Orenian Empire didn't improve matters, without a will, Lali's father's home was seized as state property, forcing Lali and Elli'nali to make quick farewells to their home of two decades, setting off into the Dominion of Malin once again. With no source of income and nothing tethering her home, she set off a few months following the death, hoping to find some way to survive in Axios without burdening her mother.
