    Decree of Abdication

    1682

    postdiv.png

I, Achilius I of the House of Horen, KING OF SANTEGIA, Duke of Savinia and Cascadia, Marqués of Seville and Ponzan, Count of Veldin, Castell and Moncloa, Lord of Biscay, Grand Knight of the Order of the Veldin, Sovereign of the Order of Eminence and the Order of the Golden Steed, having survived the passing of my beloved wife and Queen, Laelia Kastrovat-Horen, and bearing alone the responsibility of rearing the child born of that tragedy, as well as being charged with the noble right of guiding a Kingdom, must, in most earnest, weigh carefully my ability to perform these blessed duties entrusted to me by GOD, and the status of my position.

Thus, having both fastigously scoured the depths of being for this truth, and faithfully seeking the will of GOD, I have arrived at what I believe to be the most conscionable decision regarding the fate of both my Kingdom and kin: to abdicate the throne, surrendering the Crown of Santegia, and with it, all entitled rights and realms, to my cousin, HIS IMPERIAL MAJESTY, Aurelius I of the House of Horen—my most accomplished, capable, and trusted heir.

Therefore, by the drafting of this Decree of Abdication, I, Achilius I Horen, reigning and rightful KING OF SANTEGIA, do hereby relinquish the Crown of Santegia and all of its territories to HIS IMPERIAL MAJESTY, Aurelius I Horen, EMPEROR OF MAN, effective immediately.

The following claims and titles bestowed upon me, HIS ROYAL MAJESTY, Achilius I Horen, which I have held and/or acquired throughout my reign as KING OF SANTEGIA shall remain entrusted to me, so that they may be passed to my heir upon my death:

    Duke of Savinia and Cascadia

    Marqués of Seville and Ponzan

Count of Veldin, Castell and Moncloa

    Lord of Biscay

    Prince of Evereux

Grand Knight of the Order of the Veldin

Sovereign of the Order of Eminence and the Order of the Golden Steed

AS IT IS WRITTEN, SO TOO IS IT ORDERED: Upon this day, the 23rd of Owyn’s Flame, 1682, before GOD and in witness of all who have signed this document, this decree has come to pass.

    postdiv.png

        Signed,

HIS ROYAL MAJESTY, Achilius I Horen, KING OF SANTEGIA, Duke of Savinia and Cascadia, Marqués of Seville and Ponzan, Count of Veldin, Castell and Moncloa, Lord of Biscay, Grand Knight of the Order of the Veldin, Sovereign of the Order of Eminence and the Order of the Golden Steed.

HIS IMPERIAL MAJESTY, Aurelius I of the House of Horen, EMPEROR OF MAN, King of Renatus, Marna, Mardon, Salvus, Seventis, Savoy, Courland, and Norland, Duke of the Crownlands, Cascadia, Avar, and Frederica, Count of Carolustadt, Alamar, Frederica, Thesmer, Thelen, Lorath, and Cantal, Baron of Darkwood, Gravelhold, Fidei Defensor, Protector of the Heartlanders, Highlanders, Farfolk, etcetera.

    Forward

It is intrinsic in the writing of this document to contextualize the views, identity, and biases of the author of the following set of legislative writing as to inform those who may question the both the morality, and legitimacy of the moral and judicial dilemmas around the practice and use of magic.

I, Quavinir Jyrikson Tinuvial (formerly Signus) am a casual practicioner of most of the basic voidal arts. I am in no way adept enough to summon a fireball, and hurl it as a weapon, but I bear a basic understanding of the void and of flame itself to be able to conjure a small flame, for use in daily activities such as lighting a lamp, or candle, or beginning the burning of kindling. I am in no way adept enough to make the ground quake with telekinetic energy and crack the stones I stand upon, but I knowledgable enough with such a voidal art that I do bear the ability lift a plate, or small object with the void. I use the voidal arts in great moderation, only in what I believe to be productive and proper to use, never for combat, mischief, damage or thievery of property or for harassment.

Yet, I am in a minority in such a belief in practice. The vast majority of people whom use the art of the void use such as a powerful weapon, and truly, the void is a powerful weapon indeed. While not malign in  itself, the use of void magic is most commonly used with the reasoning of weaponization or more commonly than not, self defense. The void is a very effective weapon, and its practicioners many times bear power of destruction that 20 able-bodied brigands could only dream of, yet again, the void, nor the practice of magic of the void is evil. It is a weapon, yet we do not see to ban the weapons of all who enter, so as such the legislation regarding the magic of the void should be met with pragmatism, and rationality.  For though it may be weaponized, there does exist beneficial uses for the arts of the void, and it is a genuinely interesting and useful study at times.

This pragmatism, and rationality that we afford to the magics of the void should not be given so generously to that of the dark arts. As the void may be used by both the good, and the evil alike with the main issue being HOW one uses such magics, so-called ‘dark magics’ and creatures are not such the same. It is notable that a great deal of dark magics in practice and study requires one to physically harm another individual for one’s gain, and creates such things such as undead, dreadknights, paleknights, deathknights, and ghouls, creatures whose entire existence revolves around the destruction of others, and whose very existence is hinged upon violence, bearing little to no uses for any productive, or wholesome endeavor.

Furthermore, such undead creatures are condemned by both church and aengul alike, as such are detestable in both the sight of god, man, and those caught inbetween.

I would be remiss to not touch upon the magics given by aenguls and daemons. Given the standard sue of such magic, the powers provided to the clerics of Tahariae, the Paladins of Xan, and the Ascended of Aeriel are altruistic in nature, and are commendable  in their practice of such arts. While there may be exceptions, the standard use of those magics revolves around the dissolution of the aforementioned detestable undead, and the healing of the descendental body. As both contribute to the daily well-being of individuals, the casting of such magic is rarely a force of malignance, and can be considered not an issue requiring of legislation.*

It is with such views established that the following laws are written

*That said, this statement does not mean that practitioners of this magic are exempt from legislation or the laws of the land, rather that these magics are not necessarily problematic, and hence not requiring legislation as to restrict them.

It is important for laws and legislations that are proposed to have a few words describing the exact reason for such an amendment, for cases of laws that serve only the few are not something unheard of. Thus, in a simple and educating writing, I shall address why these laws are to be passed.

Holy Matrimony is the living proof of a man and a woman who share deep feelings for each other and wish to further solidify them under the eyes and protection of God. It is something sacred and important for society. The simple act of breaking this pact, of abandoning the feelings of your spouse and sharing your bed with someone who is not your spouse, is something which both the Church and the State condemn. Thus, a law of condemning such actions is necessary to be set in stone.

Any member of the Descendants is free to hold a small patch of land within the Kingdom Of Santegia. But only the Humans have the right to gain titles which will be inherited to their sons and to the sons of their sons. Because of that simple fact, it is important that there is no intermixing of blood between a Human Noble and any other Descendant Race. For that reason, ad law of Intermixing should exist, condemning such an act, until the days when this tradition is halted.

    Definitions

    1. Intercourse - an act performed between a male and a female, involving the insertion of the male reproduction organ inside the female reproduction organ.
    2. Marriage - a ritually recognised union between spouses, that establishes rights and obligations between them and any children that may result from this union.
    3. Race - the major divisions between the Descendants, defined by their physical characteristics. They may be human, elf, dwarf, or orc.

    Crimes Against the Person

    Adultery

    1. When a married person, of no social status, voluntarily commits an act of sexual intercourse with another person who is not their spouse.
    2. If the individual bound by marriage is of the gentry or of standing in the military, and commits an act of sexual intercourse with another person who is not their spouse.
    3. Under the circumstance that the married person is of nobility, and engages in sexual intercourse with another person other than their spouse.

    Crimes Against the Crown

    Intermixing

    1. The act whereby a person of gentry engages in sexual intercourse, or undergoes marriage, with another of a difference race.
    2. When a member of nobility commits an act of sexual intercourse, or undergoes an act of marriage, with another of a different race.
    3. If an act of sexual intercourse is committed by a person of royalty, with another person of a different race.

The Santegia - Warhawke Defensive Pact

    postdiv.png

Ever since the coronation of Leoiarizaltzu de Savin, the Kingdom of Santegia and the Warhawke Chiefdom arranged a series of meetings and talks, with the intention of solidifying the friendly relations between the two powers, as well as to come to an agreement that would benefit both sides in the long run. It has been decided that a Defensive Treaty to be made, for the improvement of both sides. The treaty states the following:

    • The Chiefdom of the Warhawke will rally its forces to defend the Kingdom of Santegia should a nation declare war on it. The Kingdom of Santegia will rally its forces to defend the Chiefdom of the Warhawke should a nation declare war on it.

    • If either side declares war on another nation, there is nothing obligating the other side to join that war.

    • The trade of equipment between both sides will not be hindered or taxed, with the exception it is agreed to do so.

    • Both sides will participate in hunts and training sessions to help solidify better relationships between their warriors and instill a sense of camaraderie.

May both the Kingdom of Santegia and the Warhawke Chiefdom enjoy a long lasting and beneficial relationship, with the hope of better future treaties. And may it serve as a public statement that neither nation will approve of hostilities.

    The Royal Academy

    postdiv.png

    postdiv.png

Greeting! Fellow seekers and bearers of knowledge! Over the last couple of years, there has been a building in construction, based in Santegia.

For a building of this size, I must admit that it was done in a trice. So congratulations to our construction team in that sense. Anyways, enough of the lionization in regards to the construction team, and more advertising and explaining.

Right, so what is the Royal Academy of Santegia, and what do we do?

The royal academy of Santegia, or RAS, is an institute devoted to not one goal, but three. Our first, and foremost aim is to educate, and to spread knowledge. We will achieve this aim by utilising a team consisting of a veritable amount of tutors, each armed with a whole myriad of knowledge on the subjects they teach.

Our second aim, is to research, and to contribute to the overall development of modern society by creating and inventing new technology, while also part taking in the extensive studies of scientific subjects.

Last, but not least, comes what’ll be a large contribution to the needs of Santegia, and the production of workers.

This aim was discussed and finally settled on with Abdes de Savin (Of which both I and he seemed to have established a swift camaraderie) to replace the erstwhile service of direct assistance with the upkeep of Santegia.

Our contributions would be mainly carried out by providing a plan for our students, that would involve the utilisation of their new found knowledge in future jobs and services for the overall benefit of Santegia, and all who wish to contribute to the RAS.

So, onto the possible lessons. Some of these lessons, might be seen as completely ignoble for any self respecting institute, while others are seen as essential. It matters naught, for such thoughts are purely based on perspective.

To begin, we’ll start with our physical subjects, their respective tutors and why we teach it.

    Swordplay

Taught by Ser Dimitrios Palaiologos, who, to my surprise, accepted the job with evident alacrity.

    Alchemy

To be tutored and guided by a rather benign Samuel Phoebe.

We now move onto, the academic subjects, which, may I remind you vapid buffoons (And I speak with a veritable amount of inunctuocitity) who acerbically insist that any advanced thinking is a travesty to how we should live, that without Academics, half of the items you use in modern day life would not exist.

    History

To be taught by Edmund Henry Stuart-Hepburn-Forbes.

    Enchanting

To be taught by Ser Magnus Deed.

    Court Etiquette

Taught by yours truly, Ikail Runebrooke.

    Proper Writing

Taught by the wonderful Mistress Maria Altraza.

    Battle Tactics

As his second subject, we’ll welcome Ser Demetrios Palaiologos once more to teach this one.

    Squireship

And a warm welcome once more, Demetrios.

    Geography

To be tutored by Edmund Henry Stuart-Hepburn-Forbes.

So now we move onto what are known as Umbrella subjects. These are subjects that you can choose to take, but they contain sub-subjects.

    Bardice

The overall umbrella term for the studies of the arts. This includes

    Songwriting

    Instrument creation

    Dancing

    Instrument playing

This will be taught by Jaya Jayamen, and again, always’ faithfully to serve, Ikail Runebrooke.

    Economics

The study of money, spending and the like. Essential for proper financial management. This includes

    Proper spending

    Worth

    Economic Safety

    Economic structure.

Sadly, we have no tutors willing to take up the role of teaching Economics, and if anybody, after reading this, is interested, please do send bird to me, Ikail Runebrooke. Please simply state your name and qualifications.

So, after all this, I, Headmaster Ikail Runebrooke, and Deputy head Edmund Henry Stuart-Hepburn-Forbes, and our team of tutors, would gladly welcome each and every one of you to The Royal Academy of Santegia.

Charged with the great task of protecting the citizens of the Kingdom, creating and maintaining peace and prosperity, upholding justice within and beyond the borders of the nation - The Consolidated Military is a trained force, specialising in all three forms of land based combat, as well as naval warfare. The Structure

    postdiv.png

    medieval-battle-wallpaper-2.jpg

    Battle of Castell, circa 1617

Unlike other militaries and their relevant orders, the Consolidated Military uses a rather unique system. Instead of the officers assigning a recruit to a section of the army, it is up to the recruit himself to choose where to be assigned. The recruit can go to one of two cohorts, with each cohort specialising in either infantry or cavalry. If the recruit is inexperienced in the art of combat and thus cannot decide what cohort to choose, he may ask a high officer for training. The officer will have him accomplish a training regime to see what style of combat is more suitable for him and then the recruit will be assigned to the cohort best suited for him.

Once a member of a cohort, a great training regime begins for the recruit, putting his physical and mental abilities, but most of all his loyalty, to the test. He will be treated harshly, ordered around by the officers and complete tasks no one would want. However, that is to instill character to the soldier, as  a soldier, from the highest to the lowest, must be able to complete any task. The soldier will learn the job of the person above him and teach his job to the person below him. Loyalty, courage and cooperation are the three most important attributes a soldier must have, regardless of rank.

Once this training regime is finished and the soldier becomes a full member of the military, he will be able to undergo tasks various missions assigned to soldiers by officers. These tasks can be as simple as Gate duty, to as complicated as gathering an assault force and swiftly eliminating a bandit camp with minimum loss of life and collateral damage. Tasks are one of the ways for officers to evaluate soldiers to see how capable they are, as well as if they deserve a promotion. Other ways include supporting the Order, being a bright example of a good soldier, promoting the three important attributes of a soldier, long service and valor in war.

    Ranks
    postdiv.png

    High Command

    Marshal
The Marshal is the highest ranked member of the Order. Appointed by the King himself, the Marshall embodies all the attributes and the characteristics of a perfect Order man. He is a distinguished soldier, having participated in many wars, loyally serving the King. He is a leader capable of commanding an entire army. In the Order, his word is law, only being undermined by the King’s authority. Upon his death, the King may choose a new Marshall from the Commander’s.

    Commander

The Commanders are the High Officers of the Order, personally selected by the King or Marshal to serve. They handle the workings of the cohorts, appoint and promote officers, as well as lead their forces to battle. They are also the only officers who can command if necessary troops of other Sergeants or Captains. In the absence of a Marshal, one of the Commanders will lead the entire army into battle. They are capable fighters and leaders, advising the Marshal in matters of grave importance.

    Officers

    Captain

The Captains are the Officers inside the Army. Selected by each Commander, they are soldiers who have shown aptitude in both leading and fighting. They are capable squad leaders, leading both recruits to show them how to work as a team, as well as veterans in dangerous missions. They handle trainings, promotions and make sure that their Cohort is functioning smoothly. They are usually in charge of large garrisons, such as the Capital Guard.

    Sergeant

Sergeants are skillful soldiers who have shown promise to be good leaders. They become the assistants of Captains, helping them run training courses, suggest promotions, monitor members and take up squads in missions of low to medium danger. With time and practice, these Sergeants may one day become Captains themselves.

    Enlisted

    Master At Arms

These are the elite soldiers of the Order. Veteran warriors who have tasted the blood, the smoke, the sweat, the tears and have felt the anger and terror of war time and time again, yet prevailed through it all. They are some of the greatest warriors in the Kingdom and are often the only enlisted soldiers who can assume command in the absence of an officer, as their experience breeds confidence in the eyes of soldiers.

    Man At Arms

These are warriors who have spent years in the army, proving time and time again their skill and loyalty. They are capable warriors, some even capable of going to missions of high risk. They are an example to follow for the recruits. Potential Sergeants are chosen from this rank, as they have the skill needed but lack the leading experience.

    Footman

These soldiers are the backbone of the Order, as the rank of Footman is the most regular rank of all. They aren’t treated as harshly as the new members, having proven their loyalty. Instead, they keep showing their dedication to the Order by undergoing a large number of tasks, from Gate Duty and Patrols to pursuit missions. They also take part in training regiments regularly, to improve their capabilities.

    Recruit

The Recruit is an ‘Unofficial’ rank, the rank given to those who just recently enlisted in the Order. They usually have little experience and thus are treated harshly to improve their skills and to validate their loyalty. They are given the worse tasks of all, meant to steel their nerves and mold them into proud members of the Order.

    Specialised  Ranks

    Ensign

The Ensign is the rank given to those who take up the privilege and risk of fighting in war while carrying the standard of the Order and raising it proudly, a symbol of Order’s might. They are usually very capable soldiers, possessing the necessary skill to fight the enemy while holding the Banner.

    Medic

Medics are soldiers who specialise in saving lives, just as much as ending them. They are usually Men At Arms, but Footmen with the necessary skill may also be appointed to this position. Medics tend to stay in the rear guard, treating the injured and escorting them away as the Order pushes forward in its assault against its enemies.
