    Clan Sjómaður

    (pronounced Sjomathur)

    Meaning: “Fishermen”

    Origin Story

Clan Sjómaður is a newly founded clan. Two brothers who lived near in the snowy wastelands and fished in the ice were suddenly introduced to Gorundyr previously thought to be dead. Seeing that belonging to a clan was essential to surviving in the newly established Gorundyr village, Jalfmarr’Tal, the brothers came together to establish a clan of their own. The rather creative two decided upon the name “Sjómaður” meaning “Fishermen” in Commoner.

    Members of the Clan

    Urok af Sjómaður (Ionic_Retro)

    Fiskur af Sjómaður (HolyBejebus)

    Mating Traditions

Clan Sjómaður has no differences in mating traditions from the average Gorundyr. Do not interbreed with non-humans and do not bring home a canonist unless they are willing to convert. Otherwise, Gorundyr are very accepting, one can be homosexual and love a non-human, but they must know they will not be able to carry on the bloodline. Adoption is also accepted.

Music and Arts Within the Clan

Sjómaður music is different from normal Gorundyr. The abundance of fishing lines meant that string instruments were easy to make. While horns and other instruments that the Gorundyr prefer are still likeable, Sjómaður still prefers the string instrument to all others.

In terms of art, clan Sjómaður are not artists but do need something to do while they wait for a fish to bite. In times of boredom Sjómaður would whittle away at small wooden logs, creating sculptures from wood.

    Lifeskills of the Clan

The clan is no doubtedly one of fishermen, but that does not mean they cannot have other skills. Like all other Gorundyr they train to fight from the ages 5 to 15. While training to become a warrior, Sjómaður will also learn the techniques in fishing to make themselves master fishermen.

    Fighting Within the Clan

All arguments within the clan are settled with either a fishing competition, whoever can catch the most fish in the allotted time wins, or a sparring match, first one to be put on the ground loses.

    Life Within the Clan

Clan members live lives equal to the “middle class” of Gorundyr. They are neither wealthy nor poor. They enjoy fishing, not really thinking of it as a profession, rather a hobby that they do for many hours a day.

Grand Days and Events Within the Clan

The 5th of Malin's Welcome - marks the day of celebration for Draug, the World-Render, and Vahlok, the Reaper of the Sea. They celebrate Draug for his creation of the oceans from which they catch their food and make a living from. The clan celebrates Vahlok for his legend and power enforced upon the seas  On this day the clan comes together to throw valuables such as jewelry, coins, and wood carvings into the ocean as offerings to Draug’s creation and Vahlok’s greed. They also refuse to fish for the whole day, instead sitting around a campfire telling stories and jokes that mainly consist of Vahlok and his crew.

    Death Rights

Unlike normal Gorundyr, Clan Sjómaður do not bury their dead in dirt mounds. Instead they build wooden rafts and place valuable items upon it with the deceased body. They are set off out to sea with a hefty push from clan members. The raft is expected to fall apart and allow the body to be swallowed by the embrace of Draug. The valuables are to ensure Vahlok’s greed is satisfied and allows safe passage of the soul. Should the raft survive and be found later on, it is believed that Draug refused to take on the soul and that they should remain on land. This is considered a dishonor among Sjómaður and the body is buried under a dirt mound to honor Gorundyr traditions.

    Pantheon

Clan Sjómaður worships the Pantheon Draug, the World-Render for bringing them the oceans from which they catch their food and make a living from.

Clan Sjómaður also worships Vahlok, the Reaper of the Sea as a type of legendary hero. They tell stories of his travels that are more or less made up. The clan strives to follow in the legend’s footsteps and build a ship that no other could contest.

  2. This question looks absolutely ridiculous, but I have never played an orc before and especially not on LotC. I was hoping someone could fill me in a bit on:

    1. Where to go to find Orc communities
    2. Which is better for a newer orc player to start out as. (Goblin, Uruk, or Olog)
    3. Who can help teach me better to be an Orc in roleplay.

I would greatly appreciate it as a fellow member, and slightly new one at that, of this community if someone could help me out.

On the Creation of the Beings

All beings that are man or are not man were created from man. They were created from man who’s sin and lack of devotion twisted their bodies, souls, and minds into what they are now. Forever cursed with a body and faith that forces them away from the All-Father and his followers. Should early man had not listened to sin, would these beings exist? No, these beings were brought from the evils of early man, and in taking away those evils one will take away the beings that were birthed of them.

Had early man not slaughtered each other endlessly, becoming beasts submitting to desires and instincts, then the long ears would not have been created. Long ears would not have pushed away the All-Father.

Had early man had not surrounded itself with greed, then the halfmen would not have been created. Had they not delved deep into the earth to search for riches that exist only in this mortal world, and instead delved deep into the true faith to find riches in immortality, they wouldn’t exist.

Had early men not been sinful, had their kin not been laden with sin, there would not be the rise of the goblynkin. Banished for their sin, the savagery of the beast only grew stronger within them. Soon, they would deform into what is known as the goblynkin.

Had early man not sinned, Then only man would stand. Only man would walk. Only man would run. Only man would work. Only man would sleep. Only man… would follow the All-Father.
