In the beginning, Hou-zi were nothing but mindless apes roaming the jungle of Asul. That is until Metzli found them. Metzli (the creator of the Kharajyr) was looking for worthy candidates to be her chosen followers, and because of the apes resemblance to the Descendants, Metzli descided to unlock the mind of the cheiftain of the apes. This cheif would later become Hou-Shen, the Monkey King. Metzli imparted her knowledge upon Hou-Shen so he might lead the rest of his people. Hou-Shen then unlocked the minds of his troupe and many others through the guidance of Metzli. Soon, the Hou-zi race was fully born.

The Daemon Metzli, was naturally the highest deity of the Hou-zi. But not the most worshipped. Metzli was known as the Awakener for giving sentience to the Hou-zi. The Awakener was not actively worshipped, except when paying tribute to her. Hou-Shen was the one they all worshipped for his longevity and strength of mind. After Hou-Shen’s disappearance, the Hou-zi continued worshipping him, but the longer they were without him, the more of a myth or legend he became. Modern Hou-zi still worship him and make shrines in their villages in the hopes of his return. They revile Metzli, once the Awakener, now the Doombringer. Any memory of Dragur creating the Hou-Zi has been wiped from the memories of the remaining members, and only resentment and anger of their civilization’s destruction remains.

50 years after attaining sentience, the Hou-zi had created their first city, Jing Taiyung. It was a prosperous city of wealth but destined to live for only a short time. As the Hou-zi’s wealth grew and grew, they continued wanting, and that want would be their downfall. Hou-Shen meditated on the Jade Throne for many days, and in his meditation, Metzli came to him and whispered of the things the Hou-zi could achieve if they conquered all of Axios. This started the first great Monkey War. The primary race of Axios was the Mali. Malin was the leader of the elves at the time, and seeing the rise of the Hou-zi, he thought it wise to create a treaty between them, but every emmisary he sent got turned away. Seeing this, Malin prepared his army for war, as did Hou-Shen. When the Hou-zi released their army on Axios, the elves could do little to stop them. They conquered city after city until they grew blod enough to take on the city of Malinor itself. In this great battle, Hou-Shen fell. None know what happened except that when he did, the Hou-zi empire fell as well. A forgotten Deity, The Poison, had been watching the Hou-zi in their war, and on their defeat, he decided it was time for their destruction. Jing Taiyung crumbled and the Hou-zi fled into the jungle.

In the second great war, Hou-Shen was returned to his people by Metzli. He helped his people rebuild, and with hope returned, so did their greed. This led to the second great Monkey War. The elves were now divided and Hou-Shen thought this was the opportune time to strike, but every battle they fought, was a loss. Eventually, the Elves formed an alliance and detroyed the Hou-zi army. Hou-Shen fled back to Jing Taiyung, his sons dead and the army with them.

After their defeats, the Hou-zi empire diminished in wealth and soon, the very wealthy families began fighting each other for more riches. This created civil war between the Hou-zi and ultimately brought about their downfall. The deity Poison returned and destroyed Jing Taiyung in a slower and subtler fashion. The empire crumbled and Hou-Shen disappeared.

The Hou-zi Civilization had collapsed, but their hope had not. They believed that Hou-Shen would return and lead them to another Golden Age, and they would finally conquer the whole of Axios.

    But Hou-Shen never returned...

Briefly explain the lore behind this construct or creature:

The Fei-Zhu (and all other Hou-zi) hail from the continent of Axios. Unlike their Laobai-Zhu counterparts, the Fei-Zhu resemble baboons with vibrant, multicolored fur. Their skin would often contrast with that of their fur, making them stand out more then others. Small but nimble, the Fei-Zhu stand at about 5-6 feet when they reach a mature age. Fei-Zhu have slight longevity, living 150-250 years. Like most Hou-zi, the Fei-Zhu rely on primitive technology to carry out tasks such as fishing, farming and hunting. Due to their agility and speed, the Fei-Zhu are formidable opponents in a 1v1 duel, and often practice many different martial arts, Gongfu being the most popular. Holding on to the ways of their ancestors, a family may keep an ancient weapon or a trinket of jade as and heirloom. They lead a primitive life, living in thatched roofed and mud houses, with hardly any possesions of value. Fei-Zhu no longer speak the Hou-zi language for it was lost to time. They now speak a mix of gibberish and common that, to an outsider, sounds like a jumble of words and phrases.

    The Jade Riders

The Jade Riders are a broad group of rangers and adventurers alike who oppose threats to the natural world and help others survive in dangerous environments. A Rider might help a small village prepare for a brutal winter, or aid a Kingdom in a deadly war. Riders may protect a town from an onslaught of malicious foes or simply aid in the construction of a new settlement. Members of the Jade Riders know how to survive, and more importantly, they want to help others do the same. They are not opposed to civilization or progress, but they strive to prevent civilization and the wilderness from destroying one another.

Members of the Riders are spread far and wide, generally in isolation or small cadres. Survival in a harsh world also demands great fortitude and mastery of certain fighting and survival skills.

    Beliefs:

    1. The natural order must be respected and preserved.
    2. Forces that seek to upset the natural balance must be destroyed.
    3. The wilderness can be harsh. Not everyone can survive in it without assistance.

    Goals:

The Jade Riders goals are to restore and preserve the natural order, keep the elemental forces of the world in check, keep civilization and the wilderness from destroying one another, and help others survive the perils of the wilderness.

    Creed:

    Quote

I, -name- do swear fealty to the Wild and all that it holds, to preserve and protect nature, and to uphold the laws of the world entire.
