Briefly explain the lore behind this construct or creature:

An Epiphyte is born when a descendant gets lured by a fae plant. The fae plant will influence the descendant to fall asleep before molding a cocoon around said descendant. After an amount of time, the cocoon reconstructs the descendant, turning each part of their body into plant matter. Once complete, the descendant is able to emerge from the cocoon as an Epiphyte. Whilst in the cocoon, they were given physical traits similar to that of the fae plant. For instance, if the fae plant were a tree, the Epiphyte would emerge with bark skin and leafy hair. While many physical traits become altered after being cocooned, the Epiphyte retains many of the traits they had before, like height, personality, and any racial trait. Unfortunately for the Epiphyte, they become very frail and and weaker than before their transformation. This is due to their new plant matter bodies, which happens to be less resistant to damage.

A fae plant itself comes in many different sizes and shapes. Many fae plants can be trees, flowers, various fungi, and more. When a fae plant is a fungus, they create Saprophytes, instead of Epiphytes, which are similar aside from the difference in plant traits. The identity of the fae plant is what influences what an Epiphyte looks like, as mentioned before. Once an Epiphyte is out of their cocoon, they will feel a strong connection to the fae plant that transformed them. Similar to a child and mother's bond, the Epiphyte cares deeply about their fae plant, leading them to spend time with it, take care of it, and to protect it. When a fae plant suffers from negative effects like sickness, burns, or attacks, the bonded Epiphyte will feel all the effects as if they and the plant shared a single body.

Epiphytes have a cycle where every 25-50 years, they go through a sort of reincarnation. It begins with the Epiphyte seemingly dying, but a seed is sprouted from their corpse, birthing an adolescent version of the Epiphyte. Each cycle proves to give the Epiphyte more and more plant-like traits, before ultimately becoming a walking tree of some sort. This adolescent stage of the Epiphyte is the most vulnerable for them, and can be easily imprinted by others.

It is important to note that any Epiphyte will also require the needs of whatever plant they identify with. For instance, Epiphytes from trees or flowers need sunlight, water, and prefer to eat plants. However an Epiphyte of a carnivorous plant will eat meat. Saprophytes require less light.

If this construct or creature has some form of aesthetic choice, can you describe how they look?

Mentioned above is the general appearance of Epiphytes and Saprophytes.

The character in which I am applying for, "Sotnyr", was lured by a willow tree fae plant. As a result, his skin will specifically be a brownish bark with lighter undertones. Any hair will be replaced with green leaves and vine strands. Various lively growths exist on his body like a single flower growing out of his skin. He is also dirtied with moss and soil over his body.

Before turning into an Epiphyte, Sotnyr appeared as an average Dark Elf. His skin a dark grey accompanied by dark, shaggy hair. He had a slender figure with moderate muscle mass. He commonly wore raggedy clothing and had green eyes.

Briefly explain the lore behind this construct or creature:

             Culture, Religion, & Lore:

Hou-zi were once like most apes, primitive and unintelligent. However when Metzli was looking for a race capable of representing her greatness. After searching Axios thoroughly, she found the Hou-Zi living in the treetops of jungles. She was interested in their swiftness and thus turned the alpha male into an intelligent being. He would become Hou-Shen, the king of Hou-Zi. His purpose would be to spread knowledge throughout the isles until a kingdom of Hou-Zi were born, as instructed by Metzli.

The Hou-Zi easily prospered; learning to create palaces within four years. Their culture would focus on wealth, mainly jade. Owning items of wealth such as jade would be a status symbol for those looking to impress, everybody worked to show off their wealth. Hou-Zi also enjoyed music. The style of music they liked was more calming and smooth, unlike any upbeat songs. One of the last cultures of the Hou-Zi are sports. As they eventually became a very militaristic empire, the main sport was martial arts so one could show off their strength.

Once the Hou-Zi grew old of their wealth, they resorted back to Metzli to find answers. Hou-Shen was approached by her and ordered to expand the empire, so they did. From that point on, the Hou-Zi went slowly downhill. The modern Hou-Zi are rare to find and seclude themselves from others. Relics from ancient times are still cherished and sought after by traders. Some even try to rebuild the once great empire.

The religion of the Hou-Zi are very straight forward. People would expect Metzli the Daemon to be worshiped, as she was the one who granted sentience, however Hou-Shen was the religious figure. As Hou-Shen shaped his people and made the Hou-Zi what it was, they worshiped him as a god among them. In fact, they believed that Metzli was something terrible that would eventually bring their downfall. Hou-Shen was worshiped since he was described ad immortal; never dying in battle and living past those who were born and died for generations. When he abandoned everybody, he became a mythical figure who was believed to one day come back. Most modern Hou-Zi still believe in Hou-Shen and worship him with statues and shrines. Modern Hou-ZI are not aware of Metzli’s gift of sentience.

         Race:

The Hou-Zi is made up of three sub-races; the Laobai-Zhu, Fei-Zhu, and the Hei-Zhu. Laobai-Zhu are brown-furred, and the most common of the Hou-Zi, with a lifespan of 80-100 years. They are similar to humans, coming in a range of sizes. They are described as desendents of Hou-Wang, the firstborn of the god-king. Fei-Zhu are much smaller of the three sub-races, standing at 5’-6’ in height. They are nimble and baboon like, ranging in fur shades of yellow, red, gold or blue. Their skin is usually a distinct contrast to fur. They have a lifespan of 150 to 200 years. The final sub-race is the Hei-Zhu. They are the larger of the Hou-Zi, standing at 6’5” to 7’, being very burly and similar to gorillas; often having black fur. They usually live for 250 to 300 years of age.
