  1. To our most loyal subjects, and our friends abroad... —

His Royal Majesty the King of Curonia, Jarrack I of House Devereux, has abdicated. His life has been dedicated to public service, and he has served with vigor. Jarrack’s reign saw the rallying of esteemed and prestigious houses to the banner of his House, and in reward for their loyal service, he did reward them with land. These freshly landed vassals include House Draskovits, House Silversteed, House Ragnarsson, and many more.

In the absence of the King, His Royal Highness the Prince of Evreux, Alfred II Edgar of House Devereux, does therefore ascend the throne. The young King has studied for years under the tutelage of his family’s elders and the Royal Council, and will be crowned in the near future by His Exalted Holiness the Pontiff, Everard IV. However, the King is still young, having seen only a dozen winters in his lifetime.

The King is gone. Long live the King. —

As a result of his youth, and being as he suffers the disability of non-age, the King shall be afforded a Regent. This Regent, in accordance with Curonian law, will govern the realm in place of His Royal Majesty for the time being. Furthermore, he will coordinate the young sovereign’s education, ensuring that he is prepared to begin his reign in earnest.

After thorough deliberations, the Royal Council has seen fit to appoint me as Regent. I look forward to guiding us through this unique time. Our people are strong, and historied, and mighty, but there are a number of emergent issues we must address. Unity and solidarity are the bedrock of any nation, and we must be paragons of those virtues. Let us, then, come together to better ourselves and our people. May this missive be a herald of prosperity and peace in our time.

May God bless Jarrack as he retires to the Arborian countryside, and may God grant young Alfred wisdom as he steps into the helm of leadership.

    Ave Curonia. —

We are moved to reward the steadfast service of our loyal subject, Alexander II of House Merentel, by extending to them posthaste a tenure in fealty to our King. We do by this patent reward Alexander with special esteem and grace, wherein they shall enjoy the style, dignity, title, and honor belonging to the ruler of the Barony of Hallowfell. The lands to which they are entrusted to govern on behalf of our Kingdom are bounded by the sea on the north, and the Merentel Forest on the south, as the Barony itself sits atop a cliffside. The walls of our capital, Avalain, are visible in the far-off distance.

HIS LORDSHIP the BARON of HALLOWFELL, ALEXANDER II of HOUSE MERENTEL

Through this patent, we do make known to the realm and to the world at large that Alexander is a leader in our Kingdom. We do also dignify, invest, and ennoble Alexander by placing into his hand a modest sword of gold, and a rod of old, to have and to hold—and we do extend these gifts unto him as well as the designated legal heirs of his body. He may hitherto enjoy and employ all the rights and privileges due to a peer of such stature. By your witness, and by the witness of God Almighty, we have willed these letters be made patent, with the full force of law behind them.
