    How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Metagaming is using information garnered OOC and using it IC. An example can be as simple as saying a characters name IC, that you only know from the minecraft chat UI without having learned it IC.
    How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Powergaming is RPing outside the confines of your characters abilities or forcing emotes/actions onto another character, Eg. "I thrust my sword into the bandit's chest, then press my boot against his stomach as I pull it out" this kind of RP forces a result onto another character through your emote, and doesn't give them any chance to emote or respond.

Malcolm wandered the port aimlessly, amazed and anxious by the new sights and experiences. Though he'd lived near a city before, the riches and chaos of the market were not something he'd been exposed to. Upon being confronted by the stranger he'd return the smile and friendly attitude "Evening friend--I've come to this land in hopes to continue my education in The Holy Scrolls and Canon Law" after exchanging pleasantries Malcolm would resume his unfocused journey through the plaza.
