How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: If you suspect that an action is unrealistic or unfair, you can write your attempt at it and leave it up to the other roleplayer to decide what happens.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Metagaming breaks the suspension of disbelief needed for engaging roleplay, and its unfair to the other personas who arent taking advantage of information they shouldnt have.

You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

Surprised, I carefully take a seat before adjusting my wig so that it sits perfectly atop my head.
I can't help but reflect on the stark contrast between this musty town and my life in the bustling city.
Coming back to this old hag I begin to recount my life's story:
"My name is Johannes Fischerbach, and i've traveled here on foot seeking musical inspiration for my compositions so that they can capture the hearts of the whole kingdom."
I reach into my pocket and unfurl a manuscript which I've been working to show her as proof.
"I have been working on this piece for the last couple weeks but haven't been able to write a satisfying ending. I hope in this town I can find the adventure that will inspire me. The ruggedness and harshness of this old town is what's been missing from my life in the city. I think within these common townsfolk are where the true adventurers reside. Maybe their resilience and rugged spirit could rub off on me.
I was expelled from my previous position as organist for my unrelenting perfectionism, which always ends up turning my friends against me."
*Sigh*
"My dream is to be renowned as a great musician in the kings court.
Would you happen to know any adventurers here?"
