How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Metagaming can be described as an act of using knowledge gained by the player, not the character in a roleplay scenario. For example obtaining magic through a chain of actions that would normally require trial and error to end up obtaining said magic, but if one metagames the process by being aware of the process as a player, not as the character they play, that would be considered Metagaming.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Say someone is fighting you. You corner your enemy and detain them. The somebody, is no longer able to make use of weapons or as much effectively combat you. So instead, they write that with their sheer force of will and power, and that the hand-cuffs were weak and rusty - something never stated by you, the owner of said handcuffs, they were able to snap the chains. Or when one deals a blow impossible to dodge, like for example a dragon blasting a wave of deadly flame directly at them with no possibility of escaping - a certain death, is then given a response that the attack either failed, was dodged and/or incapable of destroying them. That, would be considered powergaming

Geraint looks at the man with a what seemed to the Gentleman an annoyed expression. He adjusted his glasses, suspicious of the man's intent, asked him:
"Why are you asking me this when it is my business?"
It would be obvious to the Gentleman if he knew how to read a tone that the tall Heartlander sounded annoyed and somewhat rude, most likely thinking he was up to something, it be that true would be entirely up to him of course. However before the Gentleman would decide to continue, he would notice the Hearlander going past him, looking as if not really into the discussion at all. Should he be stopped one way or another is up to the Gentleman

Character Name: Geraint De Valois

Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 21

Your application has been put on pending, as there are changes needing to be made before you may be accepted, as follows:

  • Your Metagaming Definition is on the right track, though it’s not quite there. It is the act of using information learned out of character, rather than in character, that constitutes metagaming.
  • Not a correction, but an explanation of the rule. Three emotes are required on both sides to allow any opposing parties to react and possibly stop the letter from being written or read. The three emotes could be typed as:
    • "X would take out a piece of paper, beginning to write on it." "X would then fold the paper up as he whistled for a bird." "X would then tie the letter to the bird before sending it on it's way."
    • Or on the receiving end: "Y would notice the bird arriving and landing next to them." "Y Then removed the letter from the bird's grasp, sending it on it's way." "Y then unfolded the letter and began to read it's contents."

If you do not make these changes within 24 hours, your application will be denied. When you are finished, please message me on discord @FionnTWG#3845 to let me know, or if you don’t have a Discord, send me a forum message, and please do ask if you have any questions.

If you still need help, make sure to check the wiki, and I highly recommend joining our discord and reading through the New Player Hub as well for all important links and info!

  • Your Roleplay Scenario Response must be written from only the perspective of your own character! Do not control the actions of the man who greets them, simply respond to their first words!
