You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
You blink, not expecting the question. Carefully, you sit down on the cushion, pleasantly surprised when it's not as damp as you assumed it would be. "There's not much to my story, I'm afraid... erm, ma'am." You're uncertain how to address a hag. "But I was born far off, in the Empire of a Thousand Suns. I left those lands in my youth however, my people's brutality wasn't something I could bear into adulthood. Now I roam- I've heard these lands have many an opportunity for travelers. Could you tell me.. is that true?"

How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: I think the extent or ability of your character is tested as you bring them into roleplay with other characters. Creating a realistically unpowered character who has room to grow and accepts their faults is important to good roleplay, and prevent pushing actions on others. Additionally, checking in with your roleplay partner about goals and flow, as well as being empathetic and considerate of others.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Metagaming disrupts fair roleplay because it actively works against the goal of roleplay- to discover, lead, and create ideas and joining characters together. By metagaming your are ruining another person's goal or achievement.
