You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
((How do you respond?))
"I am a long time wheat farmer from the heartlands region." takes a brief pause to gather his thoughts "Like my father and his father before him, he did not want me to be stuck in the same life he had working for a brutal lord in the common wealth of Petra." a slight sigh with a more serious expression on his face "My father wished more of me and wanted me to seek adventure and use the natural strength and talent for a sword I have been given to defend those who cannot defend themselves and to fight the same oppression we face back at home." exhales and inhales steadily to regain his breath "I promised him I would not forget my roots or my past life on the farm and I would like to join the army of the nation of Veletz to loyally serve the heartlands and protect it at all cost."

How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Being detailed in my actions allowing the other player to have a fair chance at RP as per this example "I find myself in a tavern drinking my worries away, suddenly a man grabs my shoulder clearly upset. I turn around attempting to shove him away from me in a attempt to get away from the drunkard."
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Using OOC/exterior knowledge to affect your characters RP knowledge that they would not know in character.
