You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
((How do you respond?))
"Less of a town, more of spare firewood arranged nicely by the looks of it!" Approaching the cushion, he eyes it suspiciously. Figuring it hasn't been the worst place he ever sat, unceremoniously, he plops down. "Don't know how you figured I was coming crone, but it happened like this. I was exploring the mines, trying to find any new caverns we hadn't gotten around to finding yet. So I'm going along, torch in hand with one eye closed as to not ruin my dark vision, and I fall!" Soken jumps up for a moment to express his shock. "Ground crumbled out right beneath my feet with no warning. Fell down a good bit before slamming straight into a reservoir." Shaking his head, Soken attempts to clear the excitement of the event to continue. "Crashed down so hard that I went right out. I awoke sometime later in the cavern. Seemed that the water pulled me somewhere and thankfully didn't drown. But I had to continue on, couldn't just die in some forgotten cave. So back into the water I went against my better judgement." Giving a quick shake of the head at his foolishness, he continued. "Underwater caverns always dangerous, never go, get lost and never come back up. Thankfully, there was a flow of water leading out that spit me out in the swamp none but a few miles from here. No idea who you are or why you wanted to know all this, especially no idea why you knew I'd be coming. I think I should get a move on though, my senses are coming back to me." Soken pats at his soaked clothing, rising to leave the ragged tent and its strange occupant.

How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: The simplest way to avoid power gaming is to consider what you can do personally. While the roleplay setting is more fantastic, there are still a lot of limitations to what only normal people can do. Avoiding this can be easy, such as ensuring that you do not force specific actions upon who you are roleplaying with, i.e. roleplaying out that you hit someone without giving them any proper chance to respond in a normal fashion.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Metagaming removes the allure of the world and playing out a character. It is jarring to whoever is participating in the roleplay. Making use of information that your character didn't find on their own destroys any sort of enjoyment of getting into seeing the world through who you are playing as and turns it from a roleplay to just a power fantasy over people.
