How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Having a decent fundemental understanding of the world lore is a good start. While not needing to be an expert. Understanding the scope of both your character's limits, and how they operate within the established lore can help you make sound judgement calls on weather an action is justifyable in the current situation. For example, it may be within reason for a brooding bloodthirsty orc to show off their feats of strength as they tower in size and pure bloodlust. Whereas this would be less likely to be seen with a smaller dwarf like creature, which would benefit more from their heardy nature and resilience in a given scenario. The final rule of thumb to check for is if you are forcing actions onto another player. When emoting, you should describe the intent of your action, with room for the other player to react according to their character.
(ie. "X extends his arm, grasping the hand of the elv and shaking it violently." vs "X extends his arm towards the elf openly, inviting him to shake his hand in a display of mutual respect.")
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Metagaming can both disrupt fair play and provide the player with an unfair advantage. For example if two guild members have decided to split up but were communicating by Out of Character means (ie. Discord, etc); if in character bandits took the time to stalk and capture one of them alone, their efforts would be wasted unjustly as Discord could be used in this scenario to warn the other to clear the area or potentially leave the area to gather reinforcements to attack the bandits.

Using knowledge that your character doesn't know not only affects you and your parties, but also those wishing to interact with your character. With your unfair advantages of information you shouldn't know, they lose the ability to RolePlay or compete with you on equal footing, breaking player immersion and disrupting fun.

You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

Vochar eyes the figure in front of him as he takes in the pungent odours surrounding him. Being in a place like this was typically beneath the young elf those his sense of adventure and curiosity made him eager to find out more about the mysterious figure "Quite the place you have here..." He spoke, his gaze darting around the room half recoiling at the condition of the place and the other half keeping an inventory of his surroundings should anything arise.

" My story.. Yep, not much to tell there." He had the physique of a high elf, though carried with himself none of the regal and reserved behavior that others of his kind had. "Its been a tiring journey." The exhaustion escaped his breaths as he spoke "Grew up under the comfort of the high elves, though their style never really fit me well.. Kept talking on and on about 'how my attitute is not befitting of our kind'" The sarcasm in his voice apparent as he locked eye contact with the figure, fully engaged in their discussion. "So, eventually I just went out on my own.. Haven't really been back home, prefer it out here on my own.. I couldn't stand their etiquette if you asked me... Yep." He spoke with enthusiasm, though his demeanour expressed a sense of hollowness, almost as if he was lacking something within him.

He stood off into space for a moment before dragging himself back to the conversation at hand. "Well, what about you... What's the story beind. Erm,.. This lovely place?" He mustered up from within him the warmest smile he could despite the conditions, eagerly waiting the tales of the figure beside him.
