How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: To avoid powergaming I detach myself and remember that I am playing a character. This is for the greater group as breaking the rules of the world to get what I want can ruin the game for the rest of the players. Additionally, I believe it is more fun being confined to the rules of the world and finding ways to play around them and feel more a part of the story instead of breaking the rules just to feel powerful.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: metagaming ruins the authenticity of the roleplay. If a character acts with the information they never got it feels out of place and takes the world out of the game. Playing a character who might not know everything you do helps make the game feel more immersive as it allows players to play without the worry of characters getting information out of thin air from the player playing them.

You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

((How do you respond?))

Wow my name must have really gotten around! Well... I guess if you want my life story I can summarizes it pretty quickly. I grew up in an ordinary town with and ordinary family living an ordinary life. Everyday I imagined traveling the world and going to the places everyone tells stories about. One day I got sick of imagining and had to leave and see these stories for myself. Now I travel these great lands trading brass bells for silver spoons and silver spoons for gold coins. I know this isn't the most exiting life but for me, I could not ask for anything better!
