How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: I believe that metagaming is when you use outside knowledge from real life to undermine things or pretend like your character knows background information that they would have no way of really knowing. Your character should only know what they would naturally know, and only gain information as they read/are told it. A village peasant wouldn't know the inner workings of the royal family. (Unless they learned this in a natural way, for example working as a maid in the household or being told by a drunk guard in a bar)
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Powergaming essentially means performing actions that would be unnatural, unlikely, or entirely impossible in a real scenario, ignoring aspects of the roleplay to make your character succeed in their goal. This could include a scenario where a wizard casts a spell on you, but you ignore them and continue on without taking into account the effects that spell would have and going ahead anyways. It would be like a child playing a game of freeze tag and ignoring when the person who is it catches them, and doesn't stop moving.
