You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
((How do you respond?))
Example: "How do you...?" You stop mid-sentence in realization. Mind your manners. You wince internally at your rudeness. "I'm sorry... Do I know you?" you ask with a small weary smile. After a moment of deliberation, you begin. "I'm looking for someone... my friend? Family?" You tilt your head ponderingly. "She's gone missing. A human woman. When I was a young elf I found a child in Nevaehlen near my home and took her in. We basically raised each other. She means very much to me. But humans don't age the same as I... one day she left and told me not to wait for her return. I should've followed her..." The memory of her leaving makes you nauseous. "I was naïve to think she was only joking... It's been weeks. I am determined to find her, even if it's the last time I see her before she passes." You furrow your brow with resolve.

How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: The best course of action would be to state my actions as an attempt rather than just doing. Keep my actions open-ended so as to collaborate with others.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: It conflicts with the narrative unnecessarily. It makes the situation really hard to work around so I prefer to pretend it didn't happen.
