    How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Your character without explonation understands or know things such powers as magic or events. as your own example I may read the page on necromancy but my character has not and should not know anything about it.
    How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Basically make your self op or just too good. Go from not knowing shit to become master at it in 5 minutes. defeating enemies with one strike. Suddenly becomes "god". Honestly I have never heard of Powergaming or meta gaming before. (Now I know.) But I guess Powergaming if I can use your example "John ran along the edge of the rooftop, jumping across the opening to the alleyway below to reach the roof of the adjacent building." Ailan113 would be Powergaming, because it is unrealistic and unfair for a frail elderly character to have such agility." So I would say doing things that your character shoudl NOT be able to do.

"hi there, mister." Arvid answeared. "I came here from Nyrheim. You only live once and I want to experiance it, and I guess adventure, wealth or a position at a nobles court may just happen. you never know what fate has in store"

 

The gentleman looked at me with knowing eyes and poorly hidden laughter , he said. "I have meet many optimistic young men coming here in hopes of establishing themselves in the history books. and guess what, all of them  ended their days at the side of the road. Do you really think you have what it takes. I saw you climbing out from the ship. You crawled off and kissed the ground. Scared of water then you are scared of dying. Without bravery you will never amount to anything."  He took a last look at me and then started to walk away.

 

Arvid looks at him lividly. How dare he insult me Arvid thought. Arvid shouted back to the gentleman just like the hot headed idiot he is. "Well then old man I guess we will see. and If I amount to anything YOU WILL REGRET THOSE WORDS! I SWEAR ON IT" 

The gentleman just continued to laugh as he walked away further into the market disapearing into the crowd.
