You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
((How do you respond?))
Example: The tall, imposing figure donned in dark green steel plate armor had looked down upon the hag. He tilted his head ever so slightly, as if he were about to speak. It was only to be assumed given that their entire face was covered by his helmet. “Mmph.. M-mm-mm-mmph! Mm-mm-mmph, mmph. Mmph.” There is a small pause. “...Mm-mmph? MMMMPH!” The man smacked the side of his head, as if coming across an epiphany. His hands reached behind his head, rustling around and unbuckling the lower head piece of his armor, revealing the man’s mouth. It seemed by design to be made to allow one to still eat while wearing their helmet. “Oi! Sorry about that miss, ol’ food pit was covered up by the helmet!” The man let out a hearty laugh before taking the hag up on her offer and sitting upon the cushion. “Name’s Sorvin, no surname-Nice to meetcha! My story? ‘Fraid I don’t got much of one. Now what I DO got is a hornets nest! And it can be all your to send to your enemies for the low low price of…nothing. I-I don’t know economics, so I’m kinda doin a lotta assumin with the price range here-You know what? I’ll just leave it here for ya if ya want it.” The man takes out an actual buzzing hive and plops in on the floor.

How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Not tying out actions as a certainty would help. Like for example, instead of saying you hit someone, you instead say you *go* to swing at someone, as that provides the other side of the conflict an opportunity to either 'yes and' or do something different to react to. Basically don't role play with the mindset you need to beat someone or win. It's all about that collaborative story telling.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Using knowledge your character by all means would not have to gain some sort of advantage not only disrupts the flow of roleplay. but also takes the fun out of it for everyone else. Again, it's collaborative story telling, and a character doing something that doesn't make sense for them to do in the narrative doesn't make a fun story.
