You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
((How do you respond?))
Elanil takes the invitation to sit on the cushion. "You've been expecting me, have you?" she mutters, unable to recall setting up any meeting with the lady. "Anyway, you want to know my story." Elanil takes a moment to clear her throat. "My story begins in a small village where I used to reside. I lived a mostly peaceful and normal life until my village was attacked, raided by a group of bandits. They burned houses down and slaughtered anyone who opposed them with whatever they wanted..." She pauses for a moment, wiping a tear from her eye, and continues in a somber tone. "They murdered my parents that night. I barely survived myself by the skin of my teeth. Even my parents managed to hide me in time, and so I hid in a wooden box in the basement of our house. There I waited, frozen by fear, listening to the screams of the people of the village, my parents included." Elanil takes a brief pause to look around the tent, then continues. "After that, a wandering man found me the next day, crying over the half-charred corpses of my parents, and took me under his wing. I was with him for a while. He taught me the skills I needed to survive and also how to fight with a sword. Then, one day, he disappeared, and I never heard from him again. After that, I chose to wander around myself for a time, which is what brings me here today."
