You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
((How do you respond?))
"I don't see how you could possibly know me," Eira says with a glare before eyeing the entrance as if plotting a quick escape, but upon seeing the hag's kind expression, she moves further into the tent to sit before starting, "Alright, well, so far I've devoted my life to selling herbs and potions. I had a shop in my hometown for a few years. One day, a man came in to buy a poison for what I assumed to be a rat infestation since the little rascals plague the town. All was well until about two weeks later when.." Eira pauses to sigh, instinctively moving her hand to cover the top of her satchel, overflowing with herbs. The old woman nods, encouraging Eira to continue. "I was closing the shop one evening when a group of agitated people started forming outside. I went out to see what the commotion was about just to find that it was about me. They shouted accusations of me assisting in the murder of the mayor, all because I sold the poison used to kill him. My insistence of knowing nothing of the plot was not enough to satisfy the crowd, who began demanding all kinds of punishments. I was not about to stick around and find out what would become of me, so I ran back inside to chug an invisibility potion. I made a quick escape from there and haven't looked back since. It's not all bad, though. Now that I'm away from home I can discover new herbs and opportunities." Out of the corner of her eyes, Eira sees the sun setting outside the tent. As she gets up from the cushion, she says, "It's getting dark- I should get going."

How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: I keep in mind what is possible in the real world as well as what is possible for my character. I also focus on my character's actions rather than their intended result. Avoiding powergaming essentially comes down to respect for other players' autonomy and building a collective narrative.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Metagaming is similar to spoiling a book or movie. It breaks immersion, creates an unequal playing field, and makes things boring.
