You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
((How do you respond?))
"Much of my life has not been anything noteworthy. My earliest memory was growing up in Hefrumm. My parents were both herbal gatherers. However, there was one peculiar day where a mysterious man comes into the shop and requests very strange ingredients for a project of his. Not knowing what he was referring to, we suggested to try another town. He shook his head, claiming that this recipe can only be made from parts in this forest. We reassured him this was unknown to us. Before he left, he handed me a weathered piece of cloth, inked with a strange symbol. He said if we were to ever find the ingredients, he would be willing to pay any amount of money to have it brought to him, and that the symbol was the key to his location. Years later, after my parents had passed away, I took over ownership of the shop. While searching for a tool, I came across the old cloth, now tattered. The ink of the symbol had started to fade. My curiosity had suddenly been re-piqued, and I decided right then and there to set out to find this sage, and inquire about his missing ingredients and what his icon meant. A retired potion-maker in the town next to this pointed me in this direction, where I now come in pursuit of of answers."

How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Creating a backstory helps keep your roleplay intact. It helps you get into the immersion of the roleplay and sort of give yourself the discipline for staying in character. Thinking up fun ideas or backgrounds for your character can help you keep with the flow and intention of the server.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Creates an unfair advantage to those attempting to play within the set rules of the game.
