You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
((How do you respond?))
Example:
Tirius cautiously take a seat on the cushion, eyeing the old hag warily. The flickering candlelight casts eerie shadows across the tent as Tirius seems to ponder on his thoughts.
Tirius says to the hag, wariness present in his tone of voice, "Expecting me, you say? Most don't care about wandering monks like I."
The hag nods to Tirius. "Yes.. You."
Tirius leans forward slightly, his eyes meeting the old hag's gaze. "Then, since you care, I'll let you know. I've always been driven by a deep desire to spread faith and understanding," Tirius begins, his voice filled with conviction. "In a world plagued by doubt and uncertainty, I yearn to illuminate the path of enlightenment and bring solace to those in need."
The old hag seems, at first, pleased with Tirius' motivation. A smile creeps from ear to ear. "Then you will remain. Spread the word of your faith. In the end, it will not matter.. As I'm sure you will soon find out."
Tirius seems at edge, his hands grip the edge of the table. He slowly brings himself to a stand. He throws a single prayer book down to the table. "Find your way, and your faith. Soon, you'll come to your senses, I am sure."
Tirius exits the tent, his hand shaking, as if he can't shake a feeling of unease..

How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: The first step is to realize the character you're roleplaying is meant to be grounded and realistic. That'll keep your mindset correct when roleplaying and will take powergame off your mind. Also, when roleplaying with others, try to remember that you wouldn't want anything unfair to be forced onto your character, so you shouldn't do it to anyone else. There's also a common sense element to it, most roleplayers should know that it just straight up ruins roleplay and shouldn't do it.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: The biggest reason is that you'll start to use OOC info to make IC decisions- which will totally ruin any semblance of fair roleplay for others. On top of that, you're kind of ruining it for yourself if you metagame because there's no element of surprise to anything. It destroys character development, as there's no sense of improvement in your character's knowledge of the lore and story when you just metagame everything.
