You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—” Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
((How do you respond?))
He enters the tent and sits down. "Can you please take that blindfold off young man?" says the woman. "I'm sorry, but I can't. I have Photophobia. This blindfold is the only thing keeping me from going blind." The boy says to the old hag. "Oh, well, as I said before, what is your story?" she asks. The boy quickly makes up a story to tell her that isn't too long, but also isn't too short. "Well, my name is Summer. My parents died when I young. I can't really remember anything about them, except for their screams. They passed in a fire that took my home away from me. I was found a few days later by the wood elves. They took me in and treated me like their own. When they found out about my condition, photophobia, they gave me this blindfold as a gift on my 6th birthday. They taught me how to be one with nature, they taught me how to see without my sight, but most importantly, they taught me peace. They were my family. They were all I had. Thats why I have nothing anymore. I knocked over a lamp. The glass shattered, and the flames grew. 5 were killed, and 7 were hurt. It was all my fault. I couldn't stand that idea of killing my family. Fire ruins everything. Even yourself. I ran away from that place during the night. Thats when I learned that I could see rather good in the dark. Thats, were I spent the rest of my life. The dark. That is, until I met her. Clara. She brought back the peace in me. That warm feeling in my chest. We did everything together. We even got a dog names Maximus. But on one day, she fell ill. I did everything in my power to help her, but nothing worked. She passed in her sleep. Soon after, Max lost the will to live. He stopped eating, stopped drinking, he wouldn't even go outside. Now he's gone too. I decided that if I stopped getting things, I wouldn't lose them. I live alone now in the woods. I hide in the shadows and hunt at night. I stay indoors during the day, unless it's very cloudy and dark out. Now I know no peace. I know no love. And I don't have feelings." The boy, Summer, said to her. There was a pause of silence in the tent, then old hag began to speak. "Summer, I'm terribly sorr—" Summer cut her off mid-sentence. "I should get going. Goodnight, ma'am." He said to her, as he walked out of the tent. "So soon?" said the hag as she followed him out. "Goodnight." was what Summer had said before he walked back into the forest and returned to the shadows of the night, never to be seen by the old hag again.
