How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Metagaming is, in effect, using information/knowledge that you, out-of-character, know, while your character does not know such information. An example of such would be knowing a character's name without having spoken to them, because you read their name
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Powergaming is, at its most basic, performing actions a character cannot realistically do, like effectively denying another player the ability to respond. A fine example of this would be 'teleports behind you and cuts your head off' in emote combat.
