How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Giving a character an unfair advantage by powergaming ruins the experience for everyone involved and I actively try to avoid it. I avoid powergaming in roleplay by setting a hard-limit on what my character can do, these limits normally being set very low starting off. By this I mean that I set boundaries on what I know is possible for my character at the time of creation and that gets adjusted throughout play. Through this it leads to a more linear path to strength and requires constant fair and enjoyable rp for it to increase, while never getting too high.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Metagaming disrupts fair roleplay in a multitude of ways. The major way is that it, to simply put it, ruins the experience for everyone. By sharing/acting on information that should be unknown, it could potentially ruin surprises or big moments that could have been building up for a long time. This would obviously upset anyone involved, especially if they were the ones building up the story. Another way it disrupts fair roleplay is that it gives a clear advantage the the metagaming character because they have information they should not be privy to. This advantage would be disruptive because there'd be a character, one with no way to know something, be able to act accordingly without them actually knowing it.

You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

((How do you respond?))

"Sorry you've been what?" Zephyr looks at the hag confused. Despite this, curiosity gets the better of him and listens to her, carefully taking a seat as to not disrupt the surroundings. "So.... How did you know I would come here?." Realizing he forgot to introduce him self, Zephyr has a moment of internal panic as he quickly says: "Oh, sorry, forgot to introduce myself, I'm Zephyr Kaze. I'm from originally from Haense and after a few years I'm deciding to come back."
