How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Like my definition of power-gaming, meta-gaming is when the player decides to gain outside information that the character that they are playing would not be aware of. This gives an advantage but it ruins the experience.

How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: I would define power-gaming as deciding to go completely off script and ignore your characters maximum potential in order to attempt godliness. This is not how roleplaying works and will not be tolerated. A.K.A. me overusing timeout in third grade.

You’ve just stepped off of the boat in the port of a massive and fortified city. Before you lies a sprawling bazaar, with numerous shops, stalls, and seated traders selling wares to folk of all walks of life. Just as you’re about to continue walking onwards, into the market, you’re approached by a well-dressed gentleman who looks upon you with a big smile. “Welcome!” He began. “What brings you to this lovely city? Adventure? Wealth? Or some grand aspirations to elevate your place in society?”
How do you respond?

Response:

I would love to respond to this but I’m mute (character). So I would answer like this:

*opens mouth to reveal the lack of tongue*

Then the man would look at me aghast and allow me to pass, and then I would grin and make my way to the bazaar to purchase spices.
