You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

"I've come with the hope of starting a business, I have some ideas for what to do but nothing set in stone just yet. I'm here to prove that I can be successful without the family constantly reminding me that I'm a failure. Before I start anything here I'm going to get a lay of the land and hopefully make some connections with people that can lead to something prosperous. I'm no stranger to fighting, though if possible I like to avoid needless violence."

How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: If the game is too easy, the game isn't fun and I stop playing it. So if I feel like it's happening i'll try to derail the situation or tell the people presently asking to stop as it's not going to happen
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: It ruins the world building and leaves plotholes within the story, like how Kevin ordered a pizza in homealone while the telephones were out. People just don't know everything. Information must flow from characters who know (within the world) to characters who don't.
