    How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Don't use outside knowledge and be reasonable in what my charcter can and can't do.
    How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Example. Bob is planning a rebelion against Dave, he talks about it in some chatgroup. Dave happens to see the chat so knows a rebelion is coming. Dave attacks Bob before any signs of the rebelion not giving Bob a chance. Dave is an asshole.

You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
 

I don't hesitate and take a seat. "Good day, lady." I joyfully respond. "I am travellin' around to expand my smiting skills. I believe there is much to learn in this world." I tell her looking at her with a big grin on your face.
