You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

I sit down and take a deep breath, feeling a sense of unease wash over me. "I grew up in a loving and supportive family," I begin, "but I always felt like something was missing. I longed for adventure and excitement, but I felt constrained by the safety and comfort of my upbringing."
As I speak, memories flood back to me. The tall tales I used to tell my friends about my daring exploits and dangerous encounters. The way I would embellish the details to make myself seem more mysterious and enigmatic.
"At first, I used my persona as a way to impress my friends and gain their admiration," I continue, "but over time, I became more and more invested in the fantasy."
I tell the hag how I set out on a journey to live up to my own stories, traveling to distant lands and seeking out danger and excitement at every turn. Always careful to maintain my mystique and never reveal my true identity.
"But despite my deception, I found that I was happiest when I was out in the world, exploring new places and facing new challenges," I say, my voice growing more animated. "Over time, I began to realize that the dark and mysterious persona I had created was not the real me, but simply a mask I had put on to hide my own insecurities."
I pause, feeling a sense of vulnerability wash over me. "With this realization, I shed my false identity and began to embrace my true self. I continued to seek out adventure and excitement, but now did so with a newfound sense of authenticity and self-confidence."
