You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
((How do you respond?))

"There isn't much to tell" I sit down on the cushion, taking in the furnishings of the tent. "And the tale I would tell I'm certain you would know it for I've heard you've woven fate itself." I take a breath, tasting the dampness in the air as I did. "So do you know why I was brought here by the strings of fate or does a more mysterious force lure me here?"

How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Avoiding saying whom takes what actions and instead of saying the results wait to see what the other person says. Now if I were to stay I take a swing at your face, you can follow up with saying you side step it, catch it, take the hit etc. The harder part to that is if you follow up in the same response so I dodge your punch and hit you back. That feels like the person who originally swung getting forced into a hit where was saying they dodged and swung back at them makes it feel not forced.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: It can make it unfair and very one sided as someone else takes control of your character to do what they believe is fit for the interaction.
