    How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?:
    Roleplay a character in a realistic way, with flaws and weaknesses. Only playing/writing a character interacting with others in a manner that gives them a chance to react to any action made (describing an action as an 'attempt' at doing something, rather than just following through completely without giving the other character(s) s a chance to react).
    How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?:
    Metagaming disrupts the flow of a narrative, just like breaking the fourth wall in a story creates confusion and an uncomfortable feeling for the audience. Every character in roleplay should act only on knowledge they possess; going off of knowledge gained outside of 'in-game' scenarios risks creating inequality between players and derailing the entire story for the characters.

You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

Nora doesn't hesitate to do as the old hag says. She sits herself cross-legged on a nearby cushion, sinking her weight down on it with a weary sigh. "Took quite a'while ta get 'ere," she says, "'ave heard yer name 'round, but couldn'a find yer..." Nora chooses her words carefully, "...establishment. Not 'til today, tha' is."
