To the Denizens of Hyspia,

It pains me to say that I, Cataleya Valentina, will not be able to host my Quinceañera. As much as I was looking forward to celebrating this important occasion, I have decided to take a step back and allow DIOS to take control.

Instead, I have decided to express my joy differently. In celebration of my quinceañera and my newly acquired title, I have made it my first duty to donate a significant amount of funds to the church of Saint Franciso. If I am to begin this journey with this title, I want to do so in a godly manner.

This is to address the missing Quinceañera. Perhaps, soon, we will find another way to celebrate officially. However, for now, I'll continue with my donation to the church.

I hope my donation can help people receive the support they need, whether during difficult times or not. 

I am forever grateful to my Tía for granting me this role, and I hope to demonstrate to all the denizens of Hyspia and beyond that I can fulfill this responsibility effectively.

Your advice pushes me, but mistakes are natural. If I make mistakes, I will overcome them, just like you. I will know when to take my time, and I trust that I will be guided to make good decisions. For every bump in the road, I shall push myself to do better.

The sun shines again

 As my niece Princess Cataleya Valentina comes of age, I realize how time truly does fly by.

In 122 D.R. I was named Princess-Royal by none-other than the last Princess-Royal by her late Royal Highness Renata Alba. Along with it came the duty of caring for our courts, keeping a helpful and watchful eye on our nobility and the expansion of our culture. In addition to this, with the ascension of Hyspia’s current titles, it feels rather fitting that another member of our family gets her dues. It is my honor and my privilege to carry on the legacy of my forebears and abdicate this most notable title to Princess Cataleya Valentina.

  Her Royal Highness, Princess Cataleya Valentina shall henceforth be known as Princess-Royal of Hyspia Cataleya Valentina, Duchess of Nueva Vida.

  I most certainly am looking forward to what she may do within the coming days. I adore you my dear Cataleya.

A word of advice
 

Make smarter choices than I did and don’t wait to act upon matters that need tending. Those from all walks of life will look to you as you set the coming tone and trends of our homeland.

You’ve a heavy yet rewarding weight placed upon your shoulders as of this day. I know you will be up to the challenge of carrying it.

A BOUNTIFUL HARVEST

  With construction of the new city reaching an end, new orchards and fields have been planted to support the new populous. As a result of such, there is an abundance of fruits, vegetables, grains, and flowers available to the citizens of Hyspia. While Hyspia already profited from a great many fruit trees within its borders, the increase in space has allowed even more of them to flourish.

  Following the prior culture posts on the flowers within La Dorada and what they represent to the people of the city, we see it fit to document some of the fruit trees that so many enjoy.

Renatan Apple Tree

Growing up with a vibrant and radiating palace, the Princess Royal, Renata Alba was known for her many fruits and fashions that were brought to courts and her own family. The Del Maravilla family quickly grew many fruits and trees to decorate their wide estate, and started in their youth growing plants for the city. Renatan Apples reside within the Del Maravilla lands flourishing brightly with a citrus taste often sweet with a lingering punch of spice. These spice apples are used in many traditional dishes and now grow in fields across the badlands

Xiomara Orange Tree

The Xiomara Orange Tree is one of the most popular Hyspian fruit trees in Nueva Vida and has its own orchard in the back of the new city. Originally planted in the palace gardens by Infante Rafael del Maravilla as an expression of gratitude to Sovereign Ramona I for raising him. After her passing, he made the orchard and dedicated those to Sovereign Xiomara I, which is what led to the name change.

The oranges produced are sweet and tangy, perfectly refreshing; often used in the kitchens, making fresh orange juice in the morning. Orange trees themselves are quite interesting, as they are actually hybrid trees between citrus and sinensis. They can grow anywhere from 16 to 50 feet tall, and well-cared-for trees can live for up to 100 years. Aside from their delicious fruits, they also produce beautiful orange blossoms too, making them good as ornamental trees and fruit trees.

While olives are typically native to coastal, more moderate temperature areas, Hyspians have taken to cultivating their own olive trees that are more resistant to drought and heat, as well as winter hardy. This is in large part due to the Sovereign, Xiomara. The royal kitchens would run out when importing them, so gardeners took to making sure she always had a steady supply.

Not only are olives used in the making of dishes such as salads and pastas, olives make the oil that’s used in cooking practically everywhere, every day. Olive oil is a staple of our cooking and a fantastic way to bake, sear, or otherwise cook your meals. Olives are also rich in heart healthy fats and vitamin E, which is good for skin. 

Mondblume Fig Tree

Cultivated in an effort to bring more fresh fruits to Hyspia, the Mondblume Fig Tree has been named in honor of Kerina Mondblume’s family; namely her brothers. While figs have been cultivated since ancient times, they were traditionally grown in coastal, temperate areas— much like the olive tree. The Mondblume Fig Tree has been cultivated to survive the Hyspian heat, becoming winter hardy and drought resistant. Fig trees are on the smaller side, typically only growing 20 to 33 feet tall, and appearing more as a small shrub. But the fig fruit is sweet and soft, with green skin which turns purple as it ripens. Be careful of the milky-colored sap, it is an irritant to descendants.

The Valencian mangos are procured from trees tended to and grown by the Princess-Royal Valencia herself in a small grove near the Palace of Nueva Vida. She started a vast collection and sprouted new fruits that have been used for gifting and celebrating events. They are sweet and tropical with a skin that could almost be called a smooth leather; the skin of the mango is the best way to tell when the fruit is ripe for picking. The mangos are used for drinks within the tavern and even special wines within the Fontesar Collections. The mangos of the Princess are a new catch and have slowly become a popular favorite among the city’s populous.
 

Arvelen Avocado Tree

Named in honor of Hyspia’s former Captain, Arvel Tou Mondblume, the Arvelen Avocados are a recent addition to the orchards of Hyspia. Avocados have a unique, oily property to them and smooth, buttery flesh. Along with this, they’re high in nutrients and healthy fats that make them a delightful fruit in cuisine and vegetarian diets. However, avocados are expensive to maintain, as they require a lot of water to grow; especially in the Hyspian heat. This makes them more of a commodity than other fruits, despite how long avocados have been grown for. The trees grow from 30 to 66 feet tall, and are replanted via grafting as opposed to traditional seed planting, to maintain consistent fruit output.

Closing Statement

This document was originally meant to be much longer and include many more trees we’ve come to cultivate– both fruit and floral– however, we decided it would be a better idea to separate things, to allow for further growth in our agriculture fields. We hope you enjoyed your read-through and that it didn’t make you too hungry.

El Zafiro Hyspiano

INTRODUCTION

The Zafiro Hyspiano, otherwise known as the Hyspian Sapphire, is an incredibly beautiful gem that is considered incredibly rare as it can only be found amongst sandstone due to its mineral content. It holds an incredibly important place within the hearts of the Hyspian people both on the level of beauty and sentimental value. It is crucial to explain the history and beauty of the gem because it carries so much weight for the Hyspian people and story, following them from its discovery on Almaris to its continued use and coveted nature of it. 

This essay was first written by Lady Adriana Rosalind Temesch of San Adriano for her aunt, Sovereign Xiomara I of Hypisa, however it was then improved upon in terms of vernacular by an aid of the Temesch family. It was given to the Hyspian people as a post-mortem gift from the young girl to her recently deceased father, Tomas Salazar.

History

The Hyspian Sapphire was found by Francisco I, Sofia, Veronica and Alejandro de Pelear and their friend Amity Morovar while they were still children. The mine that held the first discovered Sapphires was just outside of the Ciudad de la Plata on the beaches of the Island. The children ventured outwards to the beach as often as they would, in order to play some games and swim around in the water, not too far away from their home.

It is on this beach that they found a gap between the sand, exposing a quarry with several small mines within it. Being children, they were adventurous and all concerns about dangers were out the window. They eventually came across a sealed mine with a series of buttons and decided to press them at random, soon enough stumbling onto the correct passcode and opening the door to the mine. 

Inside was a collection of several gorgeous Sapphires of a beautiful deep blue that shimmered in the light gap of light from the large door. The children delighted in their discovery, assuming that they now be the richest of their age should they grab for them. Both Francisco and Sofia were drawn to it and gathered a few loose ones before running to their parents excited. With this the mining of these gems began, the de Pelears taking the mine for their own purposes.

The firstborn of the children and rightful heir to the then Viceroyalty, Francisco I took the Sapphire as a symbol of his people due to its resemblance to the blue upon both his house and national crests. His crown, the one he wore for his investiture as the Viceroy of the Hyspians was made of silver and Sapphires from the local mine. Often these Sapphires found their place in what little jewellery he wore, used as a symbol of his leadership and care for the Hyspian people.

Second born and firstborn daughter, Sofia was considered the foremost patron of the gems, wearing them in the various stylish outfits that she had gotten throughout her life. The mine where they had been discovered in her youth was granted to her upon her quinceanera as a gift due to her patronage of the gem. Later in life she would find herself becoming the Queen-Consort of Hanseti-Ruska, being deemed the ‘Sapphire Queen’ by the denizens of the Haeseni palatial courts, further cementing her patronage.

In the Aevosian era, the Hyspian Sapphire has fallen from primary favour to secondary as Aurum has become the desire for the nobility of Hyspia. However, the Zafiro Hyspiano has always been attributed to the Ciudad de la Plata including in the song ‘Welcome to Ciudad de la Plata’. It is also spoken amongst the miners of Hyspia that there is another Sapphire mine bearing the same gems within the desert they occupy. However, this is yet to be found and only time shall tell whether it shall be found.

Qualities
 

Unlike the sheer majority of other Sapphires that are harvested, Hyspian Sapphires are pure blue, lacking any secondary hues such as the common green or purple hues. This deep blue is an incredible beauty that resembles the blue within the Coat of Arms of the de Pelear family. 

When found in its natural form within the sandstone prison that it forms, the Hyspian Sapphire holds a very dark, muddied blue colour with a very dusty coat upon it, due to the abrasive nature of its home. Almost completely opaque, the Sapphire holds a very unassuming visage, visibly unattractive and often ignored by those miners who do not have a great understanding of the Sapphire themselves.

Upon a jeweller working with the Sapphire, polishing and cutting it, the translucent admiral blue, when held up towards a source of light, would refract it several times over, casting the same admiral blue shade over anything on the other side of the gem. Truly a sight to behold, the Zafiro Hyspiano is considered by scholars of crystals and gems to be the most pure of Sapphires for its colour, hues and tones produced.

Meanings and Beliefs
 

The Hyspian people, due to their love of the Sapphire, have placed a great deal of meaning upon the gem. The foremost being that it is a sign of loyalty, predominantly due to the shade being so close to their ruling families chosen primary colour. The secondary meaning applied to it is a sense of love, often going hand in hand with the former meaning as a gift to one that someone has a great deal of love and appreciation for. The third and final meaning is one of upper class is more inferred than spoken, this is due to its association with the de Pelear family and the high cost of the Sapphire.

It is believed that a Zafiro Hyspiano is far better than a diamond for an wedding ring, as it is both considered more expensive and of a deeper, more powerful meaning to the culture. A ring made of Aurum with the Sapphires is the very best wedding ring that one can offer in Hyspian culture. The more superstitious consider this gem to be one of great power, offering them both protection from Dark Magicks as though it created a barrier between them and those Dark Mages and their scheming, and protection from poverty meaning should they have a great wealth, they shall not lose it so long as they have these Sapphires.

THE GUIDE TO SERVANTRY IN HYSPIA

The Guide to Servantry Handbook is a guide to the rights and expectations of those taking on the field of Servantry, alongside what the Hyspian noble family may hire on and what may be expected.

DEFINITIONS

Defined below are terms used within the handbook.

Servant
A servant or worker may be defined as someone of a lower class then who they work for, performing duties outlined in their position and attending to their employer.

Honorable Discharge 

In an honorable discharge from the position, they are released from the role whether due to time constraints, family matters or otherwise - and may take on such a role again in the future if they wish it.

Dishonorable Discharge 

In an dishonorable discharge from the role, the person has done some form of harm to those they worked for - and this may not take on such a role again in the future, whether under the same family or elsewhere.

RIGHTS AND EXPECTATIONS

Much like anyone outside of this field, those working in Servantry have the same rights as anyone else. This section is to add further as to what they may expect from a family they work for within Hyspia, as is their right.

They have the right to room and board to be provided.

They have the right to a minimum pay of ten minas weekly for their work, further amounts to be negotiated with their employer.

They have the right to be treated fairly.

Expectations of the employee may range, due to what role they may take on, but generally the expectations one might expect are the following:

The setting up of an event

The caretaking of children

The upkeep and cleanliness of a household

And food preparation

Should expectations not outlined in their role not be met, or the basic rights outlined here, it is subject for termination.

ON THE NOBILITY
 

Outlined in this section is what those of the nobility may take on, so as to give a clear guide for future purposes.

Handmaidens and Cupbearers

The role of handmaiden and cupbearer is the junior role to that of Ladies-in-Waiting and Lords-in-Waiting. Generally these are kept to those of a young age, leaving them room for elevation once older.

In the hiring of these positions, the nobility and the gentry alike may have up to three unless otherwise specified - allowing assistance in their day-to-day ventures.

Those of these roles are to be provided the basic rights outlined above, and any additions may be had through negotiation between employer and employee.

The duties of the role generally consist of the care and cleanliness of a household, the preparation and serving of a meal and menial duties as needed.

Ladies-in-waiting and Lords-in-Waiting

Dama de Honors and Caballero de Honors, or more commonly known as a Ladies-in-waiting and Lords-in-Waiting is an esteemed title, in which a man or woman of a lower status than the person they serve, attends to the person directly and assists them with day-to-day matters.

Such an honor may only be bestowed upon the noble and royal class, and furthermore, only to a select few. 

This section will expand on the requirements of having such a figure, whether as a Lady-in-waiting or Lord-in-Waiting and what someone may expect while working as one.

Those working in the position may expect the basic rights outlined above, with any additions the family may see fit to grant. Alongside this, the granting of second-hand clothing or jewelry is commonplace to use as one would please and a symbol of the family they work for.

They are to be afforded respect for their work, as their actions represent themselves and the family they work for alike.

This role may also have an honorable or dishonorable discharge, as outlined in the definitions above.

Due to the esteem of this position, constraints must be put on, which are outlined below:

The Sovereign and Sovereign-Consort may have as many as they like attending to them, for they oversee the entirety of the Sovereign nation.

The heir to Hyspia may have four attending to them at any given time.

From there, in order, the Princess-Royal or Prince equivalent may have three.

Princes and Princesses may have two, and the firstborn children of each may have one.

Infantas and Infantes may have two, and the firstborn children of each may have one.

From hereon is the noble class, for noble families of which boast a meritorial heirship, the matter of a lord or lady-in-waiting is one in which the firstborn child is allotted the privilege until such a time an heir is declared; once such is done, if the firstborn is not the heir - they may no longer hold the lord or lady-in-waiting.

In ranking order;

A Duke and Duchess may have two, and their firstborn and heir may have one.

A Count and Countess may have one each, with their firstborn and heir being able to have one.

A Viscount and Viscountess may have one each, and their heir may only have one.

A Baron and Baroness may have one each, and their heir may only have one.

Those of a commoner status may not have any, and it is the same for those of the Gentry.

House Guard

In the role of house guard, each noble family may have five in total. The guard's oath is to Hyspia and the royal family first and foremost, and they are considered part of the Hyspian Military, to be called on in the event of conflict.

It is the nobles job to pay their house guard for any work done under their household, and provide them with the basic rights outlined above. Alongside this is providing needed gear, steed and medical assistance should they come to be injured.

The role of a house guard generally consists of the duty of protecting the family they serve, defending in a duel should the request be made and guarding during travels.

This role may also have an honorable or dishonorable discharge, as outlined in the definitions above.

Miscellaneous Roles

There are many roles that fit under what is considered Servantry, all of which are considered to have the basic rights outlined above. For anything further, as to duties and expectations, alongside benefit and reward - is to be discussed directly between employee and employer.

When a family takes on a new member of their staff, they must submit this to the courts, so this may be outlined under the Hyspia Servantry Directory.

INTRODUCTION

This missive is a collection of works attributed to Her Royal Highness, Renata Alba who passed away before seeing her works published. The Courts have seen it fit to honor this posting with her memory, and have full intentions of putting this to her works well known. 

With the marking time of Hyspia’s fashion swaying in and out of the humid badlands, There has been a notable need of history to honor the past generations and put eyes to the current. The following describes the history of Hyspian fashion and fine styles.

Early Ages - Riveran Era

In the early ages of Hyspian fashion, hereby referred to as the Riveran Era, the clothing those donned kept to the bright fabrics we see even today - but have a notable difference.

Men's outfits worn often came to be a two or three piece, whether the outfit of pants, a tunic and vest showcased in the depiction below:

The clothing donned by women was generally a square necklined dress, with flowers embroidered upon the cloth. Frills and ruffles would be commonly seen amongst the collar and it wouldn't be uncommon to see an added layer over the dress, such as a shawl or apron.

Hanso-Hyspian - Sofian Era

In later ages, a new style of fashion sprouted, known primarily as Hanso-Hyspian and the leading trendsetter having been the Princess Sofia de Pelear.

Vibrantly colored fabrics met with a multitude of layers to shield from the winter cold, and heavy embroidery seen on each piece. An excerpt on the fashion is had here.

This fashion took to popularity when the Hyspians were vassalized beneath the Kingdom of Hanseti-Ruska. The square necklines of the previous era were kept, yet more intricacies were introduced in the day to day wear. Jewels and embroidery became much more commonplace, alongside fur lining to provide extra warmth.

Ponchos became more in use, based heavily upon varying animals and hanging loosely around the Hyspian male form. If not a poncho, then a vest, for layers became a Hyspians best friend during this period of time.
 

Sovereignty Ages - Ramonan Era

In Hyspias current age, the Hyspian people have since evolved into a new era under Sovereign Ramona I.  Square necklines are exchanged out for draping ones, or a mix between. Layers are still important but I'm an entirely different way than before, as it acts more as a fashion statement than a way to control the cold.

Cloaks, belts, sashes - each is paired with vibrant and supple fabrics to make the dazzling array of Hyspian outfits showcased in the Sovereignty.

Rather than the loose clothing of before, men's clothing in this era is of a tighter nature. Vests meet with a frilly tunic and tight fitting pants tucked into a pair of long boots.

Sovereignty Ages -  Golden Era

After the sudden and traumatic passing of crowns, Xiomara and Julian of Hyspia had pledged and led a new age of attire that is seen in elements across every noble and common house.

Just beginning to bud, the fashions of the previous era blend into the next - introducing translucent veils, heavy ponchos and draping sashes. The embroidery is locked up a notch, found in the even most minute details of one's outfit.

Even the most common Hyspian is fashion conscientious, pairing vibrant fabrics together to unveil a masterpiece. The mix of draping and square necklines continue into this era, and the clothing is loose, markedly easy to move within.

Ponchos have found their way back to fashion, half skirts and cloaks alongside it. Notably the Salazars influence on riding attire and chaps have found their way back, a notable new bright and extravagant style being enforced throughout the courts, with crowns and tiaras brighter and more notable of their wearer. The courts also account for the aspects of layers and golden elements within the day-to-day wear, a tradition that has carried on.

The courts of Hyspia have started in a new era of flourishment, to befit this change in scenery, there is a new sigil aligned with its prospects, and name to follow. With close consideration, as an ode to the city and its bright encouragement, aswell as each Sovereigns reign pushing for this Golden Era it is only fit that a court’s name should follow the theme.

The flowers in the arid lands of Hyspia are as varied and beautiful as the people within, due in no small part to the adverse growing conditions. While Hyspia has a dry climate and loose sands in place of fertile soil, it is also located on the coast of a bountiful river; creating a uniquely harsh climate for flowers to seed and make roots. However, once they’ve grown accustomed to these desert lands, they thrive and grow to great heights. 

Much like the people, who have endured much hardship and grief, these unique challenges shape the flora of Hyspia, creating beautifully unique specimens able to be found in every garden.

Flowers of Hyspia

Agave

There are many cactus and succulent plants in the desert, as nature has developed a number of ways to survive the harsh heat. One that stands out is the Agave, a rosette with large, succulent leaves that requires very little water. Its roots have developed to catch rainwater, condensation, and morning dew to survive. But the most interesting thing about Agave is that it can be used to produce an alternative to sugar, as well as create alcoholic beverages. 

Desert Primrose

Desert Primrose is characterized by its large yellow or white flowers, and its wide-spreading hairy, pale silvery green leaves. These flowers will bloom in spring after heavy winter rains, coloring the desert sands like vibrant tissue paper. After the plant dies, its stems and leaves will curl up like a cage, though it’s quite the hardy plant. Able to survive in any kind of soil and is extremely drought-resistant, which also happens to make it a bit of a nuisance. Don’t plant too much, or it’ll overtake your garden!
 

Apache Plume

The Apache Plume is a showy flowering plant that starts as small, roselike white flowers with yellow insides. However, after this initial flower dies off, it re-blooms as a lavender-like flower with long, feathery pink petals with white fuzz. A tall, shrub-like plant, it grows in large clusters and is invaluable for erosion control, especially in the looser sands of the desert. Its bark is known to be white or light gray and often peels, while its leaves are brighter green and a bit hairy, curling under at the edges. It can grow as tall as an elf and flowers in the spring.
 

Iblees’ Claw

Iblees’ Claw is an interesting one, it blooms in the summer with trumpet-like pink or pale lavender, exotic-looking flowers. Its bright green leaves are surprisingly soft and covered with fuzz, and when its seed pods are young, they can be picked and eaten like fruit! In fact, some believe these seed pods have anti-inflammatory properties and could be used in medicine. The mature seed pods are where the flower gets its name- as it has a long, curved “claw” that gets caught in fur or on the clothes of a passerby, thus spreading the seed.

Desert Mariposa Lily

This perennial is a beautiful bright orange, red, or yellow flowering plant that produces several slender-stemmed flowers in a small cluster. Typically on the shorter side, only reaching a bit over a foot tall on average, this flower starts off with a waxy leaf base that withers after the flowers bloom. Its bold colors stand out from the sands, creating a lovely flower enjoyable by all. This beauty is quite rare and is typically found in rockier settings: such as the desert mountains.
 

Anacacho Orchid Tree

This rare tree is quite a sight to behold. Only found in the higher elevations of the desert mountains, in the spring its delicate leaves, resembling butterfly wings, will split and produce orchid-like flowers of white or pink. It prefers well-drained soil but is winter-hardy and doesn’t require much water. A smaller tree, only growing up to 12 feet in most cases, it’s quite beautiful once you’ve coaxed it into growing well.
 

Prickly Pear

The prickly pear cactus is a humble plant, but a wondrous one. While you’ve no doubt come across this cactus traversing the dunes, you’ve likely not known about how extraordinary it truly is. This cactus produces beautiful, vibrant pink or yellow flowers. When these flowers wilt, they produce fruit in their place- which is where the cactus gets its name from. These fruits can be eaten raw, or juiced to avoid eating the hard, unpleasant seeds. Feel free to pick a few next time you’re in town, just make sure to singe the little hairs in the fruits or handle them with tongs, as the little spiny hairs hurt to touch.
 

Hyspian Moss

Hyspian Moss can often be found clinging to orange trees in the orchard or any other type of tall structure that will get it closer to sunlight. While not technically a moss, instead falling into the bromeliad family, it appears as a silvery green moss and sports bright pink flowers on it. It’s also been referred to as “Abuelo’s beard” due to looking like a scraggly, long beard in shape. And if you’re worried about the moss harming the trees– fret not. It merely clings to them for structural support; it will not harm them in any way.
 

Firecracker Vine

Personally cultivated by Princess Valencia, these beautiful vines can be found growing along the walls of La Dorada. They love to climb high in the summer to reach as much sunlight as possible and sprout beautiful red, yellow, and white flowers from which they get their name. It’s also known for blooming from early spring well into late summer, as it quite enjoys the Hyspian heat. If you visit Hyspia, you’re sure to see its vibrant colors.

These flowers are as diverse and beautiful as the land and climate that shaped them, much like the people of the desert. Whether you’ve history deep-rooted in the desert, or find yourself moving there for a better future, you’ve no doubt found something that connects you to it. Where others see a wasteland of sand, we see the golden shine of sun glinting off the dunes, and this is reflected in the unique flora such a land produces; and the strong, wonderful people it raises. I hope you’ve learned something, and can come to appreciate even the most common of flowers next time you take a stroll.

INTRODUCTION

The Noble ways of proper and dignified courtship and Marriage are not difficult. Certainly however, they are not simple. To be a Noble is to be expected to follow certain requirements and structures. Those who sway outside of the guidelines, could be enlightened, or they could be revolutionary. We however, have seen those who sway outside of the lines without proper cause tend to falter at the hand of tradition and find themselves suddenly outside the eligibility of a noble. To keep the people well informed, a study on the Courtship and Marriage traditions has been laid out. This is a mere suggestion and guide to a noble life, rather than one of certain doom.

EXPECTATIONS OF COURTSHIP

Royals and Rulers

When discussing a trivial topic of Nobility, we must understand that these lines come from the foot-steps of the Royals, and the Rulers of old. Finding a familial structure in mind is most helpful to this endeavor. Traditionally seen, a courtship within the de Pelear family consists of three requirements at a minimum.

The Trial of Loyalty, In which a contender of the Royal Family, is expected to join the enlistments of the military.

The Trial of Honor, Where the contending hand will be asked to host an event in honor of their city and nation.

The Trial of Strength, To succeed in the prior two trials, one final test of strength is shown, a duel faced by a member of the royal family, in honor of their chosen courtship.

Though these trials have been seen during the reign of Ramona I, and have continued since, change is inevitable to each nation and ruler alike. The Sovereign may see a trial fit to the situation, and is allowed to exemplify trials as they might like.

Lords and Ladys 

The Aspiring steps of Royalty lead the ways of Nobility. With examples shown through time, each family is allowed to make their own requirements of their Court-ship allowances. It is not for The Crown to decide a family's matter. It is however, a recommended ambition that a noble is a precious thing within the walls of la Dorada, it should be safe-gaurded and highly sought after. Therefore, the lengths of nobility shouldn’t extend to a mere suitor who has little interest in the established ranks and wealths to offer.

The Noble Families of the past have required trials of their children, though many of those families have come and gone. The current noble houses are encouraged to make their own trials, though not as stringent as a Royal perhaps, they may be enticed to a bull fight, or a champion of the rodeo.

Titleless and Tired 

 There is however an exception to the noble steps. A luxury in the eyes of a Noble or Royal doomed to be nagged of trials, whereas a common family or Gentry family alike are not as encouraged to participate. To find their own and establish relationships within any place. A commoner may marry into and out of any place they stand in. Though if courting above their stations, they may be enlisted to certain terms above, they are otherwise exemplified from any noble requirements.

PEARLS
 

The Pearl-Posal

To begin the process of Courting a Lord or Lady, it is needless to say, that there are no rules against gender or rank within Hyspia. There are, however, nation-wide traditions. Such as pearl fishing. 

When asking for someone’s hand in courtship, it is expected to present the chosen with a pearl.

Pearls are a significant part of the Hyspian culture and represent the new life and love aspiring for a brighter spring. The Pearls of la Dorada are rich within the Rio de Zafiros, to fish one out of the water and present it to a potential suitor is no small feat. 

Once you’ve claimed a pretty pearl, finding your courage and offering the gem towards a likely lord or lady, they are faced with two options.. Bliss and glee, of acceptance and love, or Rejection and Doom.

When one has accepted a pearl, the courtship process is within bloom. It is heavily judged for one to assume more than one court-ship. Once a court-ship has started, either party may call off all intentions, and pursue a new suitor, however once such has happened, the pearl within the courtship should be returned to the River, so a new couple may be blessed with better fortunes. 

Rejection, Doom, and Disappointment

 At the turn of events, when one faces Doom and Gloom, they are expected to take the rejected pearl and throw it back into the Rio de Zafiros. Once throwing the pearl into the water, they have turned a new leaf in their life and may continue their path of mourning and moving on. 

By throwing a pearl back into the Sapphire waters, it is believed one receives luck and rejoices in new life intentions. The pearls of someone's misfortunes are then returned to be fished out once again, and hopefully face someone else's rejoice. 

MARRIAGE

The marriage events are always done in the church and by a priest, then they are celebrated with an after party, for commoners, might be a tavern event straight after, for nobles it might be a family event in the city, and royals may be like a palace ball or celebration

When marrying into a higher classed family, one is expected to take on their family colors and banners, they are also expected to take on the higher name. To leave your family and marry into a lower class, no titles from the upper family will be passed down to children and they are taken out of inheritance. They however, if the head of house agrees may keep their birth titles. When marrying into a commoner's family, there is no elevation of rank for the common born.

From time immemorial, games have been the heartbeat of Hyspian tradition, an enduring legacy uniting noble and commoner alike in shared purpose. More than mere amusements, these gatherings are hallowed rituals of honor and heritage, where wit sharpens against wit and valor is tested under the banner of friendly contest. Each game, whether a spirited duel or a cunning test of strategy, reflects the timeless virtues of strength, unity, and grace—qualities that define Hyspia itself.

A COMPILATION OF HYSPIAN GAMES

Combat Games

Lanza Rápida (Quick Spear)
A dueling game that simulates swift exchanges between two combatants, drawing on Hyspia’s longstanding tradition of honorable duels. Popular among young nobility for refining reflexes and tactical thinking, it’s frequently played at youth gatherings and public festivals.

• Rules:
  • Players roll a 20-sided die. Rolls of 15+ count as a successful hit.
  • Both players hitting or missing results in a draw; they roll again.
  • First to land three successful hits wins.

Duelo de la Vara (Duel of the Staff) - In Hyspia, the young, eager to prove their mettle, practice the “Duel of the Staff” as a display of strength and quick reflexes. This game has become especially popular during festivals or family gatherings, where it serves as a nostalgic tribute to the vigor of one’s youth.

• Rules:
  • Each player receives a staff and takes turns rolling to simulate striking or parrying.
  • Players roll a 10-sided die on their turn:
    • 1-3: A missed strike.
    • 4-7: A successful parry or block (no damage).
    • 8-10: A successful strike, reducing the opponent’s “stamina” by 1 point.
  • Each player starts with 5 stamina. The game ends when one player’s stamina is depleted, leaving the other as the victor.

Carrera del Escudo (Shield Run)
A lively game that challenges players to race across a field while avoiding projectiles launched by an opposing team. It’s a popular feature of Hyspian tournaments, where it celebrates agility, resilience, and quick reflexes. The game is played with two teams: Runners, who try to reach the finish line, and Launchers, who aim to stop them.

• Rules:
  • Runners: Start at the beginning of the field, rolling a 6-sided die to determine their movement:
    • Rolls of 1-2: Hit by a projectile and must skip their next turn.
    • Rolls of 3-4: Successfully block the projectile.
    • Rolls of 5-6: Safe and advance one space forward.
  • Launchers: Roll a 10-sided die to aim their projectiles at the Runners:
    • Rolls of 1-5: Miss—no effect.
    • Rolls of 6-10: Hit—only if the Runner rolled 1-2, causing them to skip their next turn.
  • Victory Condition: The first Runner to reach the end of the field is declared the winner and honored for their skill and bravery.

Leisure Games

El Toro (The Bull)
Designed by Princess Renata de Pelear for her children, this game is an exciting mix of chance and strategy, where players race their bull pieces to the end while facing pitfalls and dueling other players. It’s popular among both noble children and adults, especially within House del Maravilla, and is a staple at family events.

• Rules:
  • Each player controls a bull piece, starting at the beginning of the board.
  • Players roll a 6-sided die to advance.
  • Red Spaces: Bulls rage and must return to start.
  • Bull Fight: If bulls land on the same space, players roll a 6-sided die; the higher roll wins, while the loser returns to the beginning.
  • The first bull to reach the end wins.

El Rito del Sol de Maravilla (Rite of the Sun of Maravilla)
Founded by Andres del Maravilla, this sacred game embodies the resilience and endurance required by the House of Maravilla, represented by the strength of the Twin Suns. Played during rites of passage, family ceremonies, and even in taverns, this game is a test of fortitude, symbolizing the endurance needed to withstand both light and fire.

• Rules:
  • Each player begins with 5 endurance points, aiming to reach 10.
  • Players roll a 10-sided die:
    • Rolls of 6-8: +1 endurance (Light of the First Sun).
    • Rolls of 9-10: Begin a trial where a second roll of 6+ grants +2 endurance. Failing this roll results in -1 endurance (Burn of the Second Sun).
    • Rolls of 1-5: Represent the “shadow” between the suns, causing -1 endurance.
  • First to reach 10 endurance wins, embodying the strength of the Twin Suns.

Sardinas (Sardines)
Reintroduced by Princess Renata de Pelear, this hide-and-seek variation has taken on new life as a Hyspian classic. Its origins are mysterious, but Princess Renata’s revival has made it a favorite at gatherings where close quarters and clever hiding bring laughter and camaraderie.

• Rules:
  • One person hides while the others seek.
  • Each seeker who finds the hidden person quietly joins them in the hiding spot.
  • The game ends when all players are hiding together like sardines.

La Princesa del Palacio (Princess of the Palace)
Developed by Ser Cirilia Fontesar, this strategic game has quickly become a favorite within Hyspian courts, combining wit and teamwork. Often played in grand settings like palaces or city grounds, two teams vie to either protect or capture the princess, providing lively entertainment at feasts and noble gatherings.

• Rules:
  • Teams are divided into “defense” and “offense.”
  • One player is chosen as the princess to be protected.
  • When players encounter members of the opposing team, they each roll once. Higher roll wins, and the lower roll player is eliminated and must sit down.
  • The game ends when the offensive team captures the princess or the defensive team successfully protects her.

El Juego de la Aviaria (A Game of Aviary)
Introduced by Princess Sofia de Pelear, this game became popular in the courts for its humorous take on rumor-spreading. Played during gatherings to break the ice, it highlights the twists and misunderstandings that often accompany gossip within noble circles.

• Rules:
  • Minimum three players, though five or more is preferred.
  • The host starts by whispering a rumor to one person, who whispers it to another, making one small change.
  • This continues until everyone has heard the rumor.
  • At the end, the last person reveals the rumor, which is compared to the original.
  • Optional: Multiple rumors can be introduced for more complexity.

El Puente; a week-long festival in which connections are bridged and made. A time to make new friends, strengthen bonds and to potentially find a partner for life. Announced the previous Saints week, an informational guide was published with what you need to know in order to sign-up and attend. It is upon this Saints day that the sign-ups close and in this missive below, those debuting will be listed in the order they shall be called upon - with a detailed event list afterwards for your perusal.

THE OPENING DEBUTS

El Puente will open with two parts of debuts, in which the participants will first make their debut in front of the Sovereign. The debuts will be broken into two parts, so as to allow participants ample chance to come at different times of the day. As aforementioned in the informational guide, each participant will bring a token as a gift to the person they believe has contributed the most to who they are today.

THE SOVEREIGNS WEDDING

The second day of El Puente will begin with the royal wedding of the Sovereign, Xiomara I and Ser Julian Salazar. Following the wedding, the first ball of the season will take place in the palace.

FISHING FOR PEARLS

A day meant primarily for relaxation! Pearls are something offered in Hyspia culture when wishing to have a courtship, and those participating will fish for pearls at the Hyspian beaches.

Take a trek down to the badlands and the Salazar's Viscounty of Florencia to take part in a garden party within the vineyards. Peruse the flora and fauna and enjoy an evening beneath the stars

An evening bout of chaos hosted by the Fontesars, in which those must compete to make it to the top and stay at the top.

In an event hosted by the Murrieta's household, a cooking competition will take place in which your partner is assigned randomly.

Attend in your most frightening costume in this scavenger hunt hosted by the del Maravilla family! Trek about the city, finding tricks or treats.

The final day of El Puente has hit, the majority of the day open for the attendees to enjoy - that is until night hits. When night comes, the day of the dead masquerade shall begin. Come dressed in something to honor the dead, giving thanks to those that came before us and to spark anew the memories we hold so dear.

EL PUENTE

El Puente is a week-long Hyspian festival, in which lifelong connections are bridged and made. Friendships are formed, companions with whom you can enjoy your time alongside, and for some, they find their lifelong partner, their spouse.

The Sovereign State of Hyspia is pleased to announce its second El Puente festival as its generation comes of age.

The festival will take place from the 6th of Maria’s Peace [Oct 25th] to the next Saints week ending upon the 8th of Maria’s Peace [Nov 1st].

Sign-ups begin today to be slotted for a debut and end in a Saints week.

INFORMATIONAL GUIDE

This guide shall provide the necessary information to our citizenry and visitors on what to expect in the upcoming El Puente.

On the matter of debuts, there are a few things of note to keep in mind for those attending:

When planning your clothing, it is best to keep in mind that this is within Hyspia - heavy furs and coats may lead to heat exhaustion, even as food and beverages will be supplied. Those debuting are encouraged to wear familial colors, with a hint of gold somewhere upon their person.

Hyspia is known for its vibrant wear and fashions, and for those unaware of it, an informational missive has been attached as an in-depth look into Hyspian fashion.

Men and women alike are meant to debut, with participation meant to come from both sides, and those of all status. In an effort to keep this from being a lengthy process, royalty may debut alone, those of higher status debuting first - while those following shall debut with their family.

Showcased in the previous El Puente, an exchange of tokens will take place. Those debuting are requested to bring a token, whether a flower or item of sentimental value - which are then to be given to an individual they believe has most contributed to who they have become today.

FURTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION

The following will be a guide as to etiquette to adhere to during El Puente.

The donning of tiaras is allowed in this for the nobility, should they have an ancestor they inherited it from.

Be careful not to be alone with another, as it could lead to rumor and scandal. Chaperones will be around for this very reason.

A Quinceañera is a cultural tradition in which when a female comes to be fifteen years of age, a coming-of-age celebration is held. The male version, though more uncommon compared to its counterpart, is the Quinceañero.

When wishing to propose courtship, the offering of pearls is what one must do.

When filling out your application to sign-up, which the form will be attached below, a Peer is the titled head of the household of your family, for example, this being the Viscountess Salazar or the Baron Murietta. The heir is the declared heir of that household. If you are neither, you will simply mark that you are neither and specify whether you are a commoner, gentry, nobility or royalty in one of the following questions.

INTRODUCTION

THE Patronage system is one as old as time, and to evolve it further, the Crown has penned this to showcase the shops beneath our Patronage and to detail how one may achieve the same status and what it entails.

ON PATRONAGE

For a shop to be considered under Patronage by the Crown, they must provide a needed service. This service must come at a discounted price for the public.

Shops beneath the Crown's Patronage are tax-free, as long as they continue to provide the service agreed upon and at the price agreed upon.

WEARS AND TEARS

The Wears and Tears Boutique was opened in the Sovereign State after a private petition to the Crown by the Señorita Cirilla. Under full patronage, the materials are provided for the boutique, and it is tax-free - in return, allowing for clothing for those less fortunate in the community to be set aside. Vibrant and long-lasting clothing is made, assuring those of all statuses get a chance to look and feel beautiful.

INTRODUCTION

In accordance with the most recent Edicts, the Crown has deemed it necessary to provide an update on the honorifics of the citizenry within Hyspia.

TITLES AND HONORIFICS

HOW BEST TO ADDRESS 

The following addressments are presented in hierarchical order for ease of reference, commencing with the appropriate form of address for the Monarch and concluding with the appropriate form of address for individuals of common status.

ON HONORIFICS

When addressing a noble individual in the Hyspian language, certain conventions should be observed. The use of “El,” as in “El Señor,” denotes a male, while the use of “La,” as in “La Señora,” denotes a female.

“La Señorita” is used to address an unmarried noblewoman in Hyspian society. Upon marriage, this form of address changes to “La Señora” unless otherwise stipulated by this document. In the event of widowhood, the same form of address is maintained with no alteration.

ADDRESSING THE ROYAL FAMILY

When addressing the Monarch and Monarch-Consort, 'King or Queen', the formal title is "His/Her Royal Majesty," or in less formal contexts, "Your Majesty" may be used. In the Hyspian tongue, this would be rendered as “Su Majestad”.
