PREAMBLE

The de Pelear House is a strong and proud one, finding its earliest roots back in the Kingdom of Hyspia and has grown since then to become the leading and viceroyal family of the Hyspian people. However, despite the family’s storied and important history, no missive has been made to detail the family’s history, traditions, values or artefacts. It is my hope that with this documentation, we can resolve this issue and ensure the Hyspians known the Viceroyal family.

History

The Origins of House de Pelear can be found during the time of King Cesar I of Hyspia, where Arma de Pelear served within the army of Hyspia, first experiencing combat in the Hyspian-Bandit war, during which his heir, Javier de Pelear was born. However, Hyspia would soon be plunged into a civil war between the Red Faith Pagan Hyspians, led by King Antonio and the ‘White’, Canonist Hyspians led by Blessed CardinalFrancisco. Arman, a proud supporter of the Canonist opposition to the pagan King, giving his life in battle for such.

Javier came of age but a few years prior to the conclusion of the war and his father’s death at the hands of the Pagans. He founded the Barony of Arenisca with his children in the Grand Kingdom of Urguan in 47 SA, soon after marrying his wife Frisket Monet. The Barony of Arenisca’s would be abandoned due to the distant location, despite the family maintaining the title, as they move to Elysium to be closer to Frisket’s relatives.

During the Iron Horde's invasion of Elysium, Cesar de Pelear, son of Javier and Frisket would lead his siblings and relatives away from Elysium, to the south once more. At this time they would found the Viceroyalty of Hyspia, the very same that persists to this day. Cesar’s older brother Alejandro would die without any heir, passing the title of Baron of Arenisca and head of family to Cesar, further solidifying his title as Viceroy of Hyspia.

Cesar would marry Laurelie Vuiller and bear their firstborn Francisco in the city of Niseep, their new home and capital of the Viceroyalty. Cesar would take a strong stance in regards to southern diplomacy, successfully negotiating a ceasefire between Balian and Daeland. Despite strong relations in the south, Niseep would undergo a drought that would force the Hyspians to move elsewhere, to which the Kingdom of Haenseti-Ruska would be willing to grant them land on the Silver Isle, founding the final town of Almaris, Ciudad de la Plata.

Upon the abdication of his father, Francisco Javier became the most recent head of the house becoming Francisco I. He lived out the later days of Almaris, leading Hyspia and aiding their sovereign state when called upon, though struggling with his deep rooted need to bring his brother to justice for his varied crimes including the murder of their father. His brother, Alejandro would eventually be brought to justice, however Francisco was not the one to see it through as Alejandro had turned himself into the Haenseni Despite several hardships including the loss of his heir and wife, Francisco is currently revitalised in his efforts with Hyspia, heralding a new age for both Hyspia and the family.

Traditions

Being the leading house of the Hyspian people, the de Pelears have several traditions that tie into the overarching Hyspian culture, however the house has several unique traditions and variations upon the wider Hyspian traditions that make them distinctive.

A common and widely practised Hyspian tradition, the Quinciñearo/a is a coming of age tradition that all Hyspian children will experience as they grow up and become adults in the eyes of the Hyspian people. The de Pelear family throughout the years have developed two differences upon this tradition to make it their own, firstly the child turning fifteen must dress in blue clothing and nobody else shall be allowed to wear blue at the event. Secondly, the child must choose their two closest friends to help them plan and then host the event with them as a sign of their close friendship.

The de Pelear family also take their marriages very important. Allowing their members to marry who they, as long as they speak with the heads of the house to assure it, the house ensures all marriages are for love not politics. All de Pelears and their spouse, upon their wedding day must write and speak vows that are both meaningful to the couple and would also be considered poetic, however this may be interpreted by them however they please. In addition, it is also a newer tradition from Francisco I that the de Pelear family will ask for livestock for anyone marrying outside of the family in dowry. An example is Francisco I and his camels.

Death is considered a very impactful occasion for the house, and as such the death of a family member is treated with the utmost delicacy to ensure respect for the dead and family throughout the period. For the first 9 days of the passing of a family member, the Head of House will lead the family in a congregational mourning period in which they will speak prayers for the deceased family member. Once the dead is buried, lilies and marigolds will be left at their grave every year upon the anniversary of their death and on the Dia Del Muerto as a gift to them

Asides from major events the de Pelears have several other traditions and quirks to their familial cultures including the role of Curanderos. The consort of the de Pelear family will be given the role of Curanderos, a role dedicated to the spiritual well being of the family. The Curanderos will oversee any matters that require attention from the faith or church and if necessary will discuss with the church on such. In addition it is customary for a house member to give someone the gift of scissors or knives, in order to indicate a wish of severing the relationship that the two have.

Values

The de Pelear family hold three major values at their very core, those being resilience, loyalty and accountability. They hold this at heart as it has helped the family persist and thrive throughout the years while enduring several hardships and strife including wars, loss of homes and more.

Throughout the years that the de Pelear family has existed, the most prominent value they have shown is resilience. Despite the loss of several homes, wars and familial disputes that lead to death, the de Pelear family has always come out on top of their varied struggles. It is expected that no matter the problems they may face, a member of the house will keep working hard to improve themselves and help their family and friends.

Hyspian loyalty is a strong thing, but at the speartip of this is their leading house. Several families, lands and people have aided the de Pelears in their various goals and situations and as such has developed a strength for remaining loyal to those who provide such aid. While their primary loyalty is to the people of Hyspia, as their protectors and leaders, the de Pelears also hold great loyalty to many others including the Barbanov-Bihar and Weiss family for their unending aid over the years.

While striving for the best and improving one’s strength, it is important to acknowledge one’s failures and problems, in order to ground themself and ensure they do not repeat mistakes. The final strong value of Hyspia is accountability as it is of paramount importance for the family to know what they have done wrong and build themselves up upon it.
