Mattheus, nicknamed Matt, grew up as a poor peasant in Helena, in the Empire of Man. His parents worked the fields and had a small house on the outskirts of the city, hunting and gathering in the nearby forests. As such, Mattheus has become skilled in archery and general hunting. Upon turning 18 and recognizing his combat and hunting prowess, his parents expected of him to work for the Gentry in order to boost their income and progress the social ladder. But Mattheus, being stubborn and knowing the risks of joining the military opposes this idea, instead opting to become a skilled painter or artisan, which has always been an innate skill of his. However, rejection from his parents led him to flee Helena and go on the run. Using his hunting abilities to survive, he roams Arcas in search of his destiny.
