Born into a poor family, she lived a peaceful life for a few years. Her mother cared deeply for her and she had many friends. Although she was an only child, it never seemed to bother her and she was quite content living the way she did. Her father, a traveling merchant, had been absent these during this time as his work took him throughout the land. On the day of his arrival, Eliza was eager to finally meet her father, as he was gone for all three years of her life. When he laid eyes on his daughter however, he was appalled. The man grew up in a very superstitious family, and anything out of the ordinary was seen as bad luck or evil. He took Eliza’s bright colored hair, which her mother had loved, as a sign that his bloodline had been cursed. Without saying a word to his wife, he took Eliza to the city of Reza, a place he often visited, and left her there as an orphan. He called her a mistake and cast her out of his family, claiming that “She was not his daughter”. She was devastated, the man she longed to see her entire life just left her to suffer in the slums of the city. Alone, seen as a omen of bad luck, she learned just how cruel the world could be. No one was going to help her, she would have to fend for herself.
Several years had passed and she quickly learned the in’s and out’s of the city, using her small frame to steal and rob anything she could get her hands on. She distanced herself from everyone, even those who offered her comfort. Eliza believed that everyone was like her father, a figure who had only led her to pain and humiliation. This had led her to a lonely existence, one of distrust and paranoia, always checking behind her back.
One day, during one of her usual heists, she learned of the war occurring in the region. A man she was currently attempting to swipe the coin bag off of, a soldier, commented on how they dislike being in the army and that he wished that “one of these empires would take over already.” She had briefly heard of this before, hearing it known as the “War of the Two Emperors” but didn’t pay attention to it much, but hearing this soldier discuss it peaked her interests. Perhaps she could find a way to profit off of this, maybe by offering her services to the side who paid the most gold. She decided that it was time to leave this city and see where the world would take her. She gathered what she could afford to take with her and set out on her great journey.
