Kathleen, a poor peasant woman, was on her way to Arcas when she gave birth the Bjorn. Kathleen raised her son on her own. Bjorn met his father only a handful of times, the first being when he was five. Each visit Bjorn’s father, Bron Fiscere, would stay for a night with Kathleen before disappearing into the countryside. Bron dismissed Bjorn and hardly payed him any attention during each visit. As Bjorn grew older, the visits from his father only brought frustration and anger. Bjorn wanted his father to acknowledge him, he had seen how other fathers treated their sons and desired a similar relationship with his own father.
When Bjorn turned fifteen, Bron visited for the last time. Kathleen became pregnant, and many months later, she died during labor. Bjorn became increasingly frustrated with everyone around him, eventually secluding himself from other people living nearby. For several years Bjorn lived on his own, each day a painful reminder of the family he does not have. When Bjorn was 19, he received a letter from his father. In the letter, his father apologized for what happened to Kathleen. The letter ended by asking for Bjorn’s assistance. The Fiscere clan needed him. Finally having a chance to meet his father and to be a part of a family again, Bjorn felt obligated to answer.
