Brand is a Norlander that hails from a poor family on the outskirts of Helena. At a young age, Brand watched his mother succumb to illness and his father to battle, and was left to care for his younger brother Chandler. Upon Chandler leaving to pursue his studies, and with no life direction, Brand enlisted in the Helenic Guard. However, he rapidly grew tired of the politicking and his perceived haughtiness of the higher ups (as well as a general disdain for not being in charge), and soon after his second year of enlistment passed, he retired, and began migrating eastward in search of fame and fortune.
One day he hopes to return to Helen with gold in his pocket, enough at the least to buy a cottage for himself and a mistress, and settle down to finally begin living his life. Until then, Brand will use his wit, his sword (which he named Greta after a childhood crush), and his determination to make a name for himself in an unforgiving land, and secure his place in the history books.
