Born in a lower class family in Helena, Joseph was forced to work to support his family from a young age of 8. His mother raised him for the most part as his father was a military man and died when he was 2. His family could not afford much food, so he naturally is fairly skinny. He lived in the slums, causing him to develop street smarts and generally does not trust very easily as he was scammed out of many items and possessions in his youth. He has no real formal education, but was taught to read at the local church. He was raised religious, but holds no particular beliefs as he prefers to be immersed in the present of the world. 16 years ago, his father fought in the siege of Helena, and while Joseph and his mother hid, he fought but was shot in the neck with a arrow. He holds very few recollections of his father, and does not feel much grief for his death. His mother turned ill on his 16th birthday, and within weeks she had died. He now wanders, looking for opportunities to make a living and for adventures.
