Growing up, I lived in a small village with a couple other Forest Dwarf families. I had no siblings or friends, and didn’t go to school. My mother, (Yorga) while kind, was distant, I wish my father (Dargan) had been either of those. When my father inevitably got mad at me, he would bring me to a small pit of mud slightly outside the village and stick me in. He would leave me there for a few hours, and then come back to get me. When I was younger, I struggled, tried to escape the mud. Eventually, I gave up. The times I did see my mother were a relief. She would tell me stories about my grandparent’s trip to the Grand Kingdom of Urguan, of how she met my father, how she wouldn’t stop ‘conveniently’ appearing in places my he was going. She would tell me about how wonderful his smile was, and how happy he was all the time. I wish I knew that man. One time, when I was about twenty, I finally asked him why he stopped being happy. At first, I thought he was going to tell me. His eyes got that far-away look, and he, for once, smiled. He kept staring off into the distance, so eventually, with my wonderful communication skills, said, “You there?” He instantly stopped smiling, and looked at me. I could tell this wouldn’t end well. As always, he took me to the mud pit, and as always, he left. However, this time, he didn’t come and get me after a few hours. When the sun started to set, I realized he wasn’t coming to bring me back. That’s when, for the first time in a long time, I tried to leave the mud pit. I gathered all my non-existent strength, grabbed an edge of the pit, and dragged with all my might! Nothing happened. I spent that night shivering in a pit of mud with an empty stomach. I was woken from my sleep by mother, who had tears in her eyes. She dragged me out of the pit, and told me to leave. I didn’t understand why, but the look she gave me convinced me that there was a good reason. I ran into the forest, going as fast as I could, A.K.A, not fast at all. I eventually came upon a road, and after some deliberation, started following it to the right. Eventually, I couldn’t walk anymore, and I slumped against a tree. After some unsure amount time, I heard a carriage coming. I watched as it went past, completely ignoring me. The next time I heard a carriage, I stood up and started waving my arms, shouting. It also went by without stopping. The third time, I went in the middle of the road to block them, and they went around me. I gave up, I was hungry, tired, thirsty, and the sun, which I love so much, felt like it was burning me alive. I fell over. I woke up on a small raft in the middle of the ocean. there were some cans of food and bottles of water next to me. Without thinking, I instantly grabbed for the food, and nearly fell off the raft. more carefully this time, I grabbed a can and ate for what felt like the first time in years. Once I had eaten and drank, I realized my situation. I was trapped on a row of logs in the middle of the ocean, with no way to row. I panicked, and eventually went back to sleep. A few days of sleeping, eating, drinking, and panicking later, I saw land, went up the shore, and started my new life. (I’ve never roleplayed before, so any advice is appreciated)
